My thing is...she's still doing this. The woman has been in the game 20 years. She's at a point she can call shots. If someone gives you stolen money, you might not be liable for it the first time. JLo is really an “ok” entertainer. She’s an ok singer. She’s an ok actress. She’s an ok dancer. The only thing she truly does well is dress. When you think about it, she’s very mediocre.
Let's be real she's a GREAT entertainer 10000% better than Mariah, she is a mediocre singer but she has improved a little, for me she's a pretty good actress (I've seen a lot of her movies like: Selena, el cantante, hustler, maid in manhattan, the cell, out of sight... I think acting is her strongest talent), she is a good dancer (she can do all types of dances from salsa, tango, merengue to hip hop even pole dance a little bit), she is a business woman who can make a brand (no one can deny that) and she's a FASHION ICON. I feel that she's so underrated in some of her talents and overrated in others, like people think that because she's a dancer she can't be a good actress or because she's an actress she can't be a good singer...
Mariah feels like if JLo didn't know about it, she would have reached out to her when she did find out. But since she hasn't, Mariah feels like she must have known all along.

Well that makes sense. She maybe didn't know she was being used as a tool to end another's career and maybe she knew her capabilities as a singer why she kept those background vocals. Your questions: Why it matters if they covered the same song? Because a label isn't going to allow 2 artists to release the same song months apart. Mariah recorded hers for her Diana Ross tribute for Divas LIve, but because jlo released it as a bonus in Europe, Mariah wasn't allowed to release her version. Which is a shame because the proceeds go to fund schools. This also made her scramble to find a replacement before the show. 2. Usher co-wrote and produced the track, so it belongs to him. Nobody can simply take it. It didn't make the album cut, but artists will use songs for future projects. Labels get to ultimately decide what makes the album. Singer-songwriters will create 20-40 tracks for an album because labels won't like all songs.
You would be right if it weren't for one thing. See, JLo was already an award winning actor when she debuted. She already had ties with major people in the industry, with her dating people like Puff Daddy. People held her hand not to manipulate her, but because she was already a huge star in the entertainment industry already. It's like when Ariana Grande wanted to become a solo artist. JLo already knew what the industry is like. I find it hard to believe that she could be forced or manipulated to do anything because A. It's not like she's brand new or struggling B. She was huge at the time and C. She still pulls off stuff like this today.

I get what you saying but at the same time there comes a point where, like you said, you should be like oh no I don’t wanna be represented in this way. It’s about integrity & she chose to keep looking syncing to other ppl’s vocals and stealing well after she achieved success. At that point it’s was on her & like I said before she contributes to that theft too. Look what she did with the strippers for her movie Hustlers.

AshleyTheSanger yeah Hustlers is a pretty good movie I’ll give her that! But the fact that she herself went to a strip club with her fiancé, interviews a bunch of strippers from that club, only paid them $300 to split amongst themselves, and then proceeded to make millions off the movie without even crediting them is just so shady to me. Again it seems as if she’s choosing success over integrity.
