Just for fun :) Tags: Ariana Grande Mariah Carey Sweetener world tour Dangerous woman tour Break free Daydream One sweet day Fantasy Vocals Singing High notes G5
This proves that it's not about hitting high notes. It's about the quality, tone, raw power, resonance, and textures. There's never a doubt about Arianas' abilities. Girl can sing. The difference is that Mariah didn't have to become an Artist. She is what Artists want to become. It's a different level.
@@Bluerock121 Just few clips are dubbed and these snippets have their undubbed version sounding simply EQUAL to them, so your comment is already burried.
Ariana is Ariana…I think she’s earned that now and she is amazing. But Mariah is Just something else😐 plus the fact that her natural voice sits a lot lower than Arianas, I personally find it more impressive that Mariah can basically sing as high and low as she can
@@pacificmoonlight I wouldn’t say she does it easily tbh but still impressive, Patti labelle and aretha did it effortlessly, but I don’t think anything belted above a G5 sounds that nice anyway to the ear no matter who is singing it 🤷♂️ I personally like Mariah for the different textured of her voice she uses when she sings and love the lows too. Ariana has started to get a little rasp though on her belts that kills me every time👌😍 and I think that’s what’s going to take her music to that next level🙌 wish they’d hurry up with a duet 😩
I love both, but I do think Mariah was technically better in her prime, although Ariana continues improving so guess we would have to wait for her prime, cause i truly dont think shes hit it yet, but may be approaching. I do think Ariana will have more longevity with her voice than Mariah, but its kind of unfair since Mariah had vocal nodules since she was a kid. She took advantage and made something of them as an adult, but it did deteriorate her voice. But at this point in arianas career, I hope more people start respecting her as a vocalist. Yes, her fans definitely hype her up, but from the community online of singers and singing enthusiasts, she is always disrespected.
Ariana is wonderful and absolutely deserves to be respected, as she is a good performer and blessed with a lot of natural talent. However, I have to respectfully disagree with the notion that she has improved and "keeps on improving". She is talented, but NOT technically refined. Her diction and legato have always been and issue, her voice gets disconnected once she switches registers due to her lack of support, her belting (although not awful) is not as well rounded, especially the higher she ascends. Not to mention her musical interpretive wit is pretty much non-existent. Ariana is good in the world of pop music, but she is not a virtuoso, not by a LONG shot.
@@arachnidlupus7625 Yeah that pretty much sums it up, very nicely actually. Being an exceptional vocalist entails so much more than whether or not the upper belts are supported
@@arachnidlupus7625 Considering her genre she does have excellent musicality. If you actually look production wise her music always sounds more full due to her vocal production. Listen to Met Him Last Night with Demi Lovato. You can hear a large contrast of how much vocal production she puts in compared to Demi Lovato. It's just that her musicality is often ignored due to the type of music she sings. In pop music you often have to demonstrate musicality on the production side instead of the main vocal side. I also have to disagree with the legato aspect. If you look at her upper belts she on average tends to sustain them longer than 90 percent of singers including Mariah. Considering her background Legato is definitely not an issue. Listen to her sing Listen by Beyonce. Diction is a choice for her lol. She only applies it to pop music. I think we're mistaking her skill for the type of music she sings instead of basing it on what she actually demonstrated. As well, as what we know she can do. I have to agree with what the op comment stated. The vocal community does tend to act snobbish towards Ariana despite her abilities rivaling their "chosen" singers.
Mariah Carey BY FAR. Far greater vocal technican and vocal interpreter. Ariana is wonderful, but Carey is far more resonant and is capable of maintaining a homogenous quality throughout her belting.
Ariana just sustains these notes vs Mariah not only sustains, but runs and goes all over the scale! Mariah is just the foundation of singing in my opinion
i like this video very much lambinator!!!!! your video/channel popped up on my recommendations on youtube and i do not regret watching this short video at all! i love this and your examples are so fair and precise. overall love this!!!
@@ashleyfanai People will be saying the same thing (“old school” ) about Ariana in 20 years. Also, old school or not, vocal technique remains the same, and Mariah is very superior on this departament.
@@arachnidlupus7625 what? 💀ain’t nobody tryna give you a comeback Jazmine is a great vocalist but like I said Ariana is the the vocalist of this generation point blank it’s not even an opinion
@@katnissfrogge58531) A comeback: quick response to a critical remark. That's all I'm gonna say. 2) Clearly it is YOUR opinion, cause facts say otherwise. If Ariana is the VOCALIST of this generation then we have a lot underground digging to do in order to the find the bar.
Yeah maybe back in the late 1990s and early 2000s but now miss gurl needa sit down and let them captain crunchy vocals rest. She better than Ari with her peak but let’s be honest she can’t compete with her now nor can she compare to Beyoncé now (mainly becuz Mimi lowkey lost her voice)
B4 - Ariana (fuller and more grounded sound) C5 - Ariana (beautiful vibrato) C#5 - Tie (wow both absolutely gorgeous, awesome vibrato, great opened sound, nice girly tone) D5 - Mariah (better technique, more opened and relaxed throat) Eb5 - Mariah (very close, but Ariana had slight tension in her neck area, you can see her lifted head, Mariah’s technique was flawless) E5 - Tie (Mariah had more control but Ariana sustained thus note longer with better vibrato) F5 - Mariah (more powerful, very resonant) F#5 - Mariah (one of the best F#5 belts ever!) G5 - Mariah (neautral larynx position and more support and power)
@@pacificmoonlight they are very good, her ease is incredible and her tone is so good even on these upper belts, which is extremely impresive! she just keeps raising her larynx and that causes tension and that’s why the sound isn’s as full and opened as Mariah’s F#5’s and G5’s :)
@°秋AutumnVocals声° Of course not. Many phillipines’ girls came closer than Ariana. Also, “closest we’ve got” doesn’t mean she is at the same level or near of it, so calling her a “10s Mariah” is too much.
Ariana is AMAZING!! And people don't like admitting that, but she's RIGHT NEXT to Mimi. But Mariah is MARIAH!!! Obviously there are many comparisons, but Mariah, even Ari would admit, is the QUEEN. I believe Mariah is THE definition of music. Ariana is just right next to her. From the whistles to the lows, Mariah just takes the cake. Again, Ari is right next to her. Like mother and daughter. 💖💖💖
@°秋AutumnVocals声° IDK how? I mean besides the fact you can't understand what she is singing half of the time, she is really amazing. Like I said, Mariah is still, in my opinion the best to do it, but Ari is right up there.
@°秋AutumnVocals声° Yeah, that is what I meant in my original comment. I do think she has changed over the years though. Her low notes are often over looked, but are really good. I don't really think it's repetitive, but agree to disagree. Obviously, comparing has always been dumb to me. Everybody is different but as long as they can hit notes either, alto, mezzo or soprano, they are good. You don't have to hit high notes to be good. Especially when some singers do and sound awful. ( Not saying names 😄) I just think she is a Legend and made her name. She belongs with the greats! ❤
Tone = Mariah. Technique = Ariana. Also she can belt much higher and her upper belts have so much ease. Technique wise I'd say Ariana does better, since she's been trained since a child and after 10 years of carreer her vocal prime hasn't even peaked yet. She started off wanky but gets better and better now. Mariah started out phenomenal right from the beginning, but had some habits that deteriorated her voice, that she never got rid off. Heavy use of glottal attacks, lowering the larynx for a fuller sound (especially on low notes) and singing so much outside of her natural voice placement (a lower, more speaking like range) as much as mental stress and drinking had their toll on her voice.
Mariah’s technique is better than Ariana’s. She could carry chest voice almost to the top of her belting range without losing tonal quality, she resonates a lot on EVERY note, her transitions are better and seamless, she shows less tension than Ariana… And all that on a range Ariana’s higher voice should shine more.
@@renanrpm she was pulling chest a lot during her debut era, and while i agree, it sounded amazing, it definitely wasn't good for her. The tatou club concert is undubbed on streaming services and you already hear her voice getting hoarse, during "don't play that song" for example. This happened a lot to debutriah. It just thins out and is not audible in certain parts. personally for me, musicbox mariah was her vocal peak, she was insane. the nbc thanksgiving special, the year before "If It's Over" at the Grammys. Her mix was perfect, she embraced the thinned out, girlier quality of her upper belt, and that was perfect. The most struggle came from trying to sound like the powerful black singers that were her heros and inspirations. If she always embraced her light nature of her voice she would still be rocking like Céline and Beyoncé. She STILL sounds amazing, but as I said, all the approaches to make a more dramatic, heavier sound, such as glottal attacks and pressure while singing in low larynx, combined with all the other circumstances revolving her life, let her voice deteriorate harder than it should've been. Ari on the other hand was constantly supervised by vocal coaches (every singer should do that, Céline has one around her constantly) and that's why she is getting rid of her problems, the nasality, the enounciation, and that's why she get's better and better now. All her "the voice" performances are top tier vocal deliveries.
B: Ariana won more open, nice tone... C: Tie better support for Mariah and nice Vibrato for Ari. C#: Mariah won even tho Ariana was close D: Mariah won the power, the support, the tone. Eb: Mariah won more Open E: Tie for me Mariah was more controled but Ariana had better tone and a slide vibrato. F: Mariah won resonant. F#: Mariah more open and powerfull. G: Tie For me, Mariah was pushed but powerfull and Ariana did great but the tension. Great video even tho i don't like comparisons.
The tone is just to your preference but what I think is deciding factor is the artistry each singer portrays in their performance - style, creativity, etc. One of them has secured the world-class legacy while another is in progress.
I love both Ariana and Mariah.. but their techniques r different.. Ari don't usually belt the note with her chest register, she often use her mix. While Mariah is the opposite. So, i think it'll be interesting if you put these girls in falsetto and whistle battle
Both of them sing in mixed voice, stop spreading misinformation. So aggrevating to see people in the "RU-vid vocal community" speaking about things they know nothing about.
i like ariana more but that’s probably just a subjective thing. i think her tone is just super clean, and it’s gotten a lot richer than how it was in her debut era. mariah is also super super good, both are top tier vocalists imo
I would say they are surprisingly equal as far as hitting the notes, but what gives Mariah the edge is she's actually phrasing the notes. Arianna tends to open her mouth and have jaw tension leading to some pronunciation issues. It drives me insane because Ari is such a strong vocalist that I struggle to understand why she hasn't outgrown this issue. Jaw tension is uncommon and easy to fix, and she has near perfect vocal technique outside of that issue.
Mariah has more crisp, beautiful and chesty belts. Ariana sounds too blended for me, which is great for voice preservation but not as exciting the ears or emotive and raw.
I'm an Arianator but I also love Mariah, this is my unbiased opinions: B4 - Ariana, it sounds wayyy more fuller which makes it stands out more C5 - Mariah C#5 - both tie for me, but there's just something abt Mariah's full resonance that got me through it. D5 - Mariah, but Ariana's sustained is pretty excellent tho! D#5 - Mariah, because the power and the ease is just *chef's kiss* ughh E5 - i actually can't pick, BOTH ARE SO GOOOD 😍😍 F5 - Mariah F#5 - Ariana, I just love the resonance that it brings G5 - both, i feel like Ariana sounds more open but Mariah sounds more pleasant in my opinion. Ariana - 5 Mariah - 7 👸
I mean you can definitely tell that this is more of an Ariana fan based off of clips because some of these notes she has much better clips for… but it was still a good vid.
It's all down to prefrence honestly both use different techniques for instance mariah aims for resonance and support with a full chest belt but sacrifices ease and range because she never developed her mix voice that well whereas aris approach is more for range but she lacks support and didn't develop herfull chest belts properly so it depends on your preference honestly
