Mariala National Park located in outback Queensland, West of Charleville, is a remote park protecting Mulga lands.
I explore the No. 3 Bore camping area, and the Rockholes camping area. Remnants from its early pastoral years scatter the park.

Great video Brett. I camped/live in the bush for several months north of Cobar NSW, in mid 2006. The drought was bad then, but not as dry as in this video. It looks almost apocalyptic...

Terrific work mate,I very much enjoyed watching.It's definitely dry,but the lush green leaves are proof there is water down beneath somewhere. Just not very good for anything trying to survive on the surface.The absolute silence is just wonderful as a background to the musical sounds a Defender make,one of the many joys Landy owners savour.Sorry to hear of your turbo failure,but you are going again,the solitude in these areas is just sublime.All the best to you as you move across this beautiful rugged country of ours👍😊

G'day Brett, Really nice clear & natural colours in your cinematography mate, also I really enjoy hearing the interesting & informative information which in most cases are not covered in other channels. Is it a long drawn out & sometimes costly process to apply for a permit or can everything be taken care of on line? & do you know if it applies to all reserves & parks in QLD. I must admit i am envious off the trips you undertake as I also enjoy the solitude & my own company while taking in the vastness of the country along with its natural beauty & wildlife. We are still in the fitting out process & estimate another 12 months to completion, however watching your videos makes us even more determined to reduce this schedule. One final attribute to you & your videos is the wealth of practical first hand information, tips & many places of interest. Most of these places & destinations are on our bucket list & armed with your experiences will greatly benefit us in our travels, & I assume many other people who follow your channel. Safe Travels Mate, Steve.
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 6 лет назад
Thanks Steve. Booking a campsite online in Qld is an easy process. Usually, 7 minutes to book and pay with credit card. I think it is now Qld wide for online booking except for several self-serve kiosks located in various parks, particularly Cape York. I'm sure your build will complete itself in the right time.

G;day Brett, No Worries & thank you very much for the information, that all sounds easy & straight forward. Im not sure if you know but why does it take so long to be granted access to the Traditional Owners lands, I cant work that one out as they have many great & very popular tracks (I was told it could take up to 6 weeks & there is still no guarantee of being issued a permit) Thank you, Steve.
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 6 лет назад
TO's have many elders that may need to be consulted within the clan.. plus different ceremonies may be carried out across the lands.. so they all need to agree. Than if there's 'sorry business' for funerals permits could be cancelled or delayed. Many cultural reasons.

Another very good video Brett well done I enjoyed that! Wow 200tdi turbos are not cheap, any suggestions on preventing this from happening as my land Rover is also a 200tdi? Happy roaming!
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 6 лет назад
Thanks Will. The likely culprit was the oil feed and oil drain hoses going into the turbo. Mine were probably the original 25 year old hoses, and apparently they can collect gunk inside which dislodges then gets into the turbo bearings stuffing them.. from then on its a slow death. Maybe replace your hoses as a precaution.

Plenty of it in the big cities! Out in the bush it disperses quick. Times are changing though and electric is likely to take a good chunk of the market within 10 years for city dwellers. The 4wd market will take a lot longer to adopt.
@mountainconstructions
@mountainconstructions 6 лет назад
How many Ks on your Landrover when those failures happen? That poor snake looks like it got driven over.
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 6 лет назад
The turbo had only done 44000km. It was replaced on my last trip. Apparently oil contamination and overheating caused its failure, so put it down to the old oil feed lines which weren't replaced during rebuild.. replaced all hoses so hopefully this one lasts.
@mountainconstructions
@mountainconstructions 6 лет назад
Wow, that is very unfortunate. It is an unusual failure, hence why i asked. Not what you need at anytime, let alone while remote travelling

Roaming The Outback Hi Brett, thanks a lot for the quick response. My son Julian and me swapped a 200TDi Discovery engine into our 109 Series III, ex-mod, LHD, 1984, two years ago. As we had to do some modifications (Defender turbo, TD5 intercooler in front of radiator, 2 stage 16" Kenlowe fan), so I am interested in some "standard" figures to optimize the cooling system of our set up.

@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 6 лет назад
Yes very unfortunate... though I"ve replaced the turbo feed and drain hoses now which may have been the cause.. I've been told the hoses clog up with gunk which blocks the feed and grit dislodges from inside and gets into the bearings.. I'll know in another 40000km or so if it works out this time.
@drew5763
@drew5763 6 лет назад
Would catch can help maybe?
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 6 лет назад
The oil leak was caused by a tappet cap getting into the crankcase breather blocking the drain, so oil flooded my airbox instead.. must have been dropped in there during an engine rebuilt a year back. Catch can would help keep the airbox cleaner though in general use.
