Marian Basilica In India Survives The World's Deadliest Tsunami! 

Though we were staying 75km away from the shoreline, on the day of the great calamity, we were in church called Assissi in Nagercoil...there were great many other people saved through basilica and shrines in the southern part of India...truly God works through his Catholic Church till today

Right now,I’m in Velankanni to witness the annual flag hoisting..We celebrate this festival every year..Thousands of devotees (from different faiths)have reached here mostly by walking ..Ave Maria🙏

True story: that year my aunt was getting in the mass when the tsunami struck everyone ran up the church almost everywhere had gotten flooded apart the churches and beside her was a old lady who was reciting the rosary in Tamil at the end she said “ stop this Abba Father” and an hour later things started clearing up this is a true miracle 😊

The true beauty of this bascillica is with the devotees. Hindus, muslims and christians around the country go to Velankanni and pray together.

Thousands of people throng this Basilica daily both Catholics and non Christians from all over India and abroad..... At present the Novenas are going on to Our Lady of Health and the feast is celebrated on 8th September, the feast of the Nativity of Our Blessed Mother.... Many miracles, healings and devotees prayers are granted.....

The Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health, also known as Sanctuary of Our Lady of Velankanni, is a Christian shrine located at the town of Velankanni, Tamil Nadu, India. The shrine is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The devotion has existed since the mid-sixteenth century, it is attributed to three separate events which occurred at the site: The apparition of the Madonna and Child to a slumbering shepherd boy, the miraculous healing of a handicapped buttermilk vendor and the rescue of Portuguese sailors from a deadly sea storm. Initially, a modest chapel was built by the Portuguese from Goa and Bombay, soon after they washed ashore safely in spite of a severe tempest. An annual novena is celebrated and draws nearly 5 million pilgrims each year. Pope John XXIII raised the Marian shrine to the status of a minor basilica via the pontifical decree Salutem Supplicibus Dilargiens, signed & notarised on 3 November 1962. He called the shrine "the Lourdes of the East" due to the massive influx of pilgrims.
