That’s one of the reasons that this is my favorite of her various versions of this song. In 1965, she was way too young to really sing this song and mean it; and in 2018, she was clearly too old, sounding like she was trying to revisit (if not cling to) her past youth. Like they say in The Three Bears, this “porridge” is just right!!!

Today’s NYT article on Marianne brought me here. I’m 70 and have loved this song from the original, from the Stones’ version, and this version. I especially like this version now, as it captures a look back on one’s life and an appreciation, I think, of all those little things going around you. Good songs withstand the test of time, don’t they? God bless and keep Marianne Faithfull.

I am from Finland, born in 1949. In my youth I heard this melody and immedietely fell in love with it. I never happened to see Marianne Faithfull Faithful in person anywhre nor at any concert while living in London in 1983-87 but this melody carries me on since my youth in the 60's. I even learnerd the chords and to play guitar along this melody! Lovely greeting and happiness to Marianne Faithful from this 74-year fellow in Finland!

She is an English singer and actress who achieved popularity in the 1960s with the release of her hit single "As Tears Go By" and became one of the lead female artists during the British Invasion in the United States. I just saw this. Wow! What a complete difference from the '64 video. Totally a haunting video. The shots of her sitting alone and then the cutbacks to her as a young woman speak volumes.

I adore listening to her original version of the song, then immediately skipping to this one in which you can hear and feel the difference between her younger self, and her more matured self. She's had a hell of a life, and it's no one's fault but her own, but she conquered it all and survived. It was only after all she put herself through that she could sing this song with real heart, and she does so right here. I'm glad we still have her.

I remember not liking this version when I first heard in '87. I was just 18 and full life and full of shit. Now that I'm older and still alive this song has a completely new meaning.

Nowadays it’s popular to hear dark or depressing versions of normally cheery and major sounding classic songs. This sounds just like that but not only did she do her own cover but also did it 35 years before everyone else lol

i always loved this song from the first time i heard it - circa 1965 - this version while maybe not as 'great' is still a haunting version - i was a little shocked when i first heard it but it very quickly grew on me - wonderful to hear it now 33 years later ... great to see the visuals too now - thanks You Tube!!!!!

So much Pathos in this version, amazing. How much extra depth and meaning with age, time and a lower older voice to a fairly chirpy song otherwise. Superb. Really well shot vid as well, love the reflection of things past. With maturity comes a bit more wisdom. Hard for people who have never or yet to travel the path to fully understand it.
