The University of Michigan has one of the largest endowments of any public university in the United States.
So why aren’t they paying their teaching assistants fairly?
Marianne talks to protesting grad workers from the school to learn more about the unfair labor practices that these students and researchers face.

She is the change that we so desperately need. I’ve been saying it for years too many people in America have forgotten how to listen with good intentions, forgotten how to love thy neighbor. I would cry tears of joy to see Marianne as our next face of America and I am doing everything I can to support her message.

Love Marianne. It's her or bust for me. I wouldn't even support Bernie. I've followed her career and unlike current progressives in power, who fold like cheap tents in office, Marianne may campaign on the same issues but fundamentally she comes from a much deeper place, of 'intuition', very much like Einstein, the Buddha, and so on... She doesn't make decisions based on political calculations beyond what is necessary for her to build a movement. Then she'll show her true power in standing up to power.

I love that you took the time out to listen to these ppl, the reality of starving wages is heartbreaking especially at universities that claim to care so much about dignity. Is it possible for you speak to those striking at Rutgers University in New Jersey? There’s been a weird issue happening between the grad students who are strike ready and the senior professors who are suspending the strike. I’d love for someone to look at this and gain more clarity on this impasse. Thanks for all you do! ❤

As of now, for sure, but if she were the nominee, I have no doubt that tone would change a bit.

This is such a perfect example of how universities (even public/state universities) are now treated as a business instead of as a public good. There is no reason a public university should be sitting on an endowment that large while students are suffering. This focuses on graduate students, but we should also ask what kind of tuition relief they could give ALL students if they cut their "profit" a bit. Thanks to MW for helping to shed a light on this.

My husband is a Master Carpenter & works for wealthy clients in our area. (Very grateful) One of his recent clients revealed to him that the career that paid her the most ended up being the cause of her declining health. She was such a smart presentor re eco friendly systems, she always closed the account. They sent her all over the country & world. In the end she was being paid handsomely at $2000 working 17 hour days while they were charging $600/hour for her time. She's thankfully wealthy & able to pay for her care takers as she is currently more in a wheel chair than out & very over weight. We do not have a system in place that cares. The corporations are set on their own selfish care

This is the perfect microcosm of what is happening all over the country. I hope that when they get justice for themselves that some of the students who are perhaps law students/future lawyers/political scientists/ journalist, etc who are getting the best education America has to offer might consider donating their time and efforts to interpreting the legalese that is our legislative system to the people in some organized and ongoing broad manner that does not exist in a cohesive way at the moment. If we could have a dedicated group of a few lawyers and a few podcasters and journalists working together in each state committed to correctly interpreting and delivering in a way to public can understand all legislation happening at the state level it could transform this country as soon as the very next election. We need to replace the majority of the House and the Senate. Anyone who has proven they prioritize billionaires in corporate America over all else need to go. The public needs people who will explain these bills that are being passed right under their noses constantly. Because it wasn't a sudden rush that got us here, it was a slow drip and we all need to be more aware of what's going on because we have no choice but to stop it now lest we return to the days of royalty and peasants. We cannot be aware of things happening in a language we do not speak or understand. In my opinion this is the best way for equality, financial and otherwise, to happen within the mechanics of what exists. If we can't tear it down right this moment then I hope that the best and brightest among us will donate their time to improving the lives of all of us who are suffering through a transition phase that must occur one way or another. An informed voter is an empowered voter and empowered voters dictate the flow of democracy. Uninformed and unempowered voters are used by others to dictate the flow of a democracy in the way they see fit. And sadly the latter is what is happening right now in America. And it's not all our faults, it was designed this way on purpose. But now that we see the problem we need to step up and stop this injustice and fix what can be fixed, topple what must be toppled, and overcome many years of financial oppression, educational oppression, and outright betrayal of the people by those representatives in whom we put our trust.

UM has a strong relationship with corporations. It is one of the richest universities in North America. The 3rd I believe. The university has shut down unionization Facebook sites for organizing. The university is telling the same victim biased and mostly untrue stories in articles. The university is very much like Walmart. Underpays the majority while a few benefit. Professional staff have suffered like the GA and have not been able to organize a union properly due to university interventions. Most UM employees cannot afford its services. Professional staff are the drivers outside the classroom. Bringing real word solutions where classrooms cannot. As a whole the university is hemorrhaging their professional staff.

"It is a noteworthy phenomenon that in the development of capitalism and its ethics, compassion (or mercy) ceases to be a virtue." ~ Erich Fromm “I learned a long time ago the wisest thing I can do is be on my own side, be an advocate for myself and others like me.” ~ Maya Angelou "The great social justice changes in our country have happened when people came together, organized, and took direct action. It is this right that sustains and nurtures our democracy today. The civil rights movement, the labor movement, the women's movement, and the equality movement for our LGBT brothers and sisters are all manifestations of these rights." ~ Dolores Huerta “If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.” ~ Kristen Uedoi "When struggling be undaunted. With perseverance comes all manners of all possibilities." "My God is a faith & understanding that strength, guidance & appreciation, can be found from within oneself, & from outside oneself." ~ Paul Jung “I've had my share of difficult moments, but whatever difficulties I've gone through, I've always gotten a prize at the end.” ~ Audrey Hepburn "You are responsible to yourself, to love yourself, to care for yourself, and to help yourself." ~ Akiroq Brost "The job facing American voters… in the days and years to come is to determine which hearts, minds and souls command those qualities best suited to unify a country rather than further divide it, to heal the wounds of a nation as opposed to aggravate its injuries, and to secure for the next generation a legacy of choices based on informed awareness rather than one of reactions based on unknowing fear." ~ Aberjhani “No voice is too soft when that voice speaks for others.” ~ Janna Cachola

I watch and listen to quite a lot of news and I've never heard about this. No adult in this day and age can live off of what they make unless the person is in grade school. Greed and willful ignorance has truly gotten a grip on so many people that they are willing to allow others to suffer, and some die, for them to be able to live comfortably. What other candidates are connecting with the people like Marianne is? ..none of them. #Marianne2024

Assuming she does win the primary and by some miracle beats Trump or DeSantis.. there's elections after the 2024 election. She'll need a Democratic majority in the House and Senate if she wants to do anything she's running on in her campaign. Now I'm assuming that most if not all of her would-be voters didn't particpate in the 2022 midterm elections. As president she's gonna tell her voters to vote Democrat in 2026 and no doubt they will but why would they? Why would a Marianne voter get up and get out to vote for Democrats when they wouldn't do it under Biden?
