Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt presents Milena Canonero with the Oscar for Costume Design for Marie Antoinette at the 79th Academy Awards. Hosted by Ellen DeGeneres.
What's so awesome has to be the camaraderie actors develop after working on a film, sometimes this happens and sometimes not. But what's awesome usually comes from moments like these when actors get the chance to poke fun at themselves and their work from something fairly recent and are able to play with that stuff in moments like these. I mean, Meryl had a great sense of what was going on just by watching and listening and didn't hesitate to get into character once the camera was on her. Cuz clearly while they were having a bit of fun onstage, Meryl came to the table to make that moment of fun last even longer and mined the comedy gold for the moment. Awesome
@@CorriganM08 did I write I was surprised? Did I write that I was surprised by her acting ability? Usually actors don’t play their characters at awards ceremony 🙄
I LOVE Emily and Anne's intro and Meryl, but can we talk about how cool it was that for that the Oscars decided to bring the costumes onstage and have people model them instead of showing them in the movie clips like they do these days? Would love for them to bring this back
Marie Antoinette totally deserved it. The amount of creativity and effort that was put into hundreds of different dresses for that movie is astonishing. The wardrobe, soundtrack, and direction/cinematography is what makes Marie Antoinette my favorite movie of all time.
The technical aspects of the film complement the wardrobe. Her designs were the icing of the cake. The look of the film took you on a cinematic journey.
@@phreshlikedat9752 I've seen "Curse of the Golden Flower" and it's not even the best costume design for a Zhang Yimou film. It's "House of Flying Daggers" in gold.
It does if you compare Emily to Anne. Anne was great in "acting" during the performance but her "rolled" pronounciation in English is not as great IMHO. Same nationality: Meryl Streep. Her voice, tone and English pronounciation are just music to ears
Marie Antoinette did deserve it. Years later, we know the immense impact the movie had on the fashion world and has inspired so many collections already, purely based on the costumes. None of the other movies did that.
Milena's speech is beautiful and sincere, she is so humble and so gracious and always so classy. and she looks better than anyone else in the audience, leave it to a costume designer to dress better and with more flair than the rest of the rich populace who just paid someone to have "good" taste for them . Milena you're my Hero and my idol.
True. Wondered how so little of the comments refer to HER when she's the center and the actresses satellites surrounding her work on that occasion! Shallow Folks.
0:59 Andy Sachs and Emily Charlton holding hands is all I've wanted and I finally got it! 1:26 The look of pure terror on Emily's face! I love it! She's the best! Meryl's Miranda face kills me! xD They're so freaking cute! I cannot!
she's a person not a thing lol. And it's easy to call her a hot thing when she's an A-list actress in a tailored dress and glammed up for an award show. I'm sure Emily knows she looks hot during those circumstances - as does pretty much every actor there who knows their looks played a large part in why they're in that room that day. I'd say it's less about someone thinking she's a hot thing which impresses Emily, and probably more about someone knowing her all her flaws and seeing her on a bad day without and makeup but still thinking she's beautiful...thats probably what impresses her the most. tl;dr - all celebs are hot, its the lowest form of recognition to recognise an actor for being hot. they probably feel like Vivian Leigh and wish theyd get recognition for qualities besides their looks
Meryl nailed it acting as "Miranda" for not even a minute! Even as herself, she still was able to give that fearful "Miranda stare"! It just goes to show how great of an actress she is!
She deserved it the award. The gowns in the film Marie Antoinette were nothing less than breathtaking. Fourteen years later and that film continues to have some of my all-time favourite costume design.
This year's Oscar nominees were really hard to choose, since I love all those costumes. Marie Antoinette was so beautiful and delicate while keeping Historical Accuracy as possible, and Curse of the Golden Flower was also fabulous and unspeakable, and of course Devil wears Prada really shows modern fashion and luxuriousness.
Marie Antoinette costumes are exquisite and just unbeliavable. Look how they look light like clouds when acresses move. Look at the nuances of colours and the brightness of their silk. Milena Canonero has an unrivalled knowledge of costumes and she shoes each time deep historical research. If Stanley Kubrik chose her for Barry Lyndon was for a reason. Full stop
I absolutely love this presentation. they should always do the costume design (and other technical awards) like this, with depth and style. plus Meryl!
There's an old saying was: "You can win 'em all!" But it went to Dame Helen Mirren in "The Queen" at Paramount/Lionsgate. This was her first Academy Award and her first win in 2007.
Milena Canonero ...I'm gonna remember that name. The way she talks, her gratefulness to those who helped her along the way, and her innocently childlike nervousness is really genuine.
Miranda to Emily 1 and Emily 2 after the Oscars: "The ceremony was wonderful and every one was full of energy and having a great time. Everyone except ME because I did not have my cappuccino..." Emily 1: "Miranda we tried..." (gets cut off by Miranda) Miranda: "Do you know WHY I hired you?"
Marie Antoinette was the rightful winner. recreating such an important time in fashion must have been daunting, sine Marie antoinette was the beacon for Haute Couture, and each piece in that movie was a little masterpiece, all of it looked amazing.
I love this presentation! It really puts the costumes on the spot! I hate how know oscars are juste about big famous actors and not about actual cinema and cinematographical aspects in general.
I have so much respect and love for all these women but it's saddening to see the comment section mentioning everything but Milena's work. She's a phenomenal costume designer, the greatest imo, who deserves her work to be acknowledged. She's an inspiration along with Meryl, Emily, and Anne.
As an Italian, I was very glad Milena Canonero won her 3rd Oscar (a deserved victory for Marie Antoinette), but for me the best costume design of 2006 remains The Devil Wears Prada (and with Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt presenting the award I hoped that the film could at least win that Oscar).
I wish I could see behind the scenes with her explaining how she comes up with a concept for a design. I hope a book is published about her designs just as a book shows the history of Edith Head's Designs.
Makes me smile to watch Anne and Emily giggling like the young girls they were here and Meryl transitioning to her character in a snap. Anne Hathaway is gorgeous.
Cgt m Thats cause the clothes were designed like that, immortal in fashion. Other ones were historically and culturally influenced. But the awards don't go for the ones rhat are most "fashion of the moment"
MERYL YOU ARE THE BEST EVER...HOW YOU CHANGE FROM SMILING INTO MIRANDA CHARACTER ...I HAVE PLAYED BACK SEVERAL TIMES AND YOU SCARE ME...NEVER SAW SUCH THING BEFORE IN THE OSCARS
For the record, Milena Canonero is the veteran costume designer who won four Oscars in 1976, 1982, 2007 and 2015. She's now married to Marshall Bell since April 1980. She's also associated with Hanes Hosiery which seen on both print and television ads since 1990. But that's my healthy opinion.
Es imposible no amar a Meryl, es tan grande que ya no le importa hacer hasta de cartera o algo así, los que trabajen con ella solo pueden aprender y disfrutarla. Meryl is huge as actress and I am afraid she is also as person.
