That Yabushige actor is too good. I love the way he switches up from brave warrior, to backstabbing villain, to clueless shmuck almost instantaneously; and its so believable

When John was reloading his pistol was I the only one thinking “What makes a good soldier? The ability to fire rounds a minute”?

Why is Blackthorn blasting fools with his guns so badass? It's like he's been holding these swords for the whole show then just decides 'screw it, I'm pulling out the gat.'

I love Yabushige's character. He flip-flops like crazy with allegiances, but still can't help but love his character.

Mariko knew she had to die while she was in Osaka. I feel like her last moment seeing John struggle to save her, knowing how much he loved her, was almost enough to convince her to live.

A cool detail I only caught after rewatching the scene at 1:38 around five times where John shoots the first shinobi is that John's actor is _actually_ firing off a real pistol (loaded only with powder without the bullet), but he's standing about two feet closer to the camera than the shinobi's, but his arm is extended as if he's pointing directly at the shinobi from our perspective, so the shot is going off into empty space so that the shinobi's actor doesn't get injured. The whole shot is only 3 seconds long, so you don't catch it on first glance, but you do catch the realistic lighting of lit powder on the environment and actors and the realistic smoke. You can even distinctly catch the fire in the flash pan.

She was an amazing and true Samurai

Holy crap! The entire episode was intense before this scene, but jesus! Way to give me a damn hear heart attack before I go to bed. What an ending!

I knew she was going to die because I am Japanese, but I never thought she would die this way.

I like how, unlike a lot of movies and animes, the ninja are NOT excellent fighters. Sure, they're brilliant at stealth and ambush, that's what they're trained for, but once something goes wrong and they're in a fair fight they're actually WORSE than the samurai who train their whole lives to master open combat and the foreigner armed with weapons they're not experienced in countering.

One thing that I realized about Yabushige on a second watch of the show, is that, aside from being nowhere near as politically skilled as he thinks, he is also not that great of a fighter, notice how many times he need to stab that guard and how uncomfortable he looks while doing so, even the other guard that he kills, it's with a very telegraphed stab that only really worked because the guard was distracted, during the christian ambush he is also the one samurai who is seen struggling the most for the fewer number of kills. It makes a lot of sense in hindsight since he is probably someone that constantly relied on other people to do his dirty work and most likely doesn't have as much combat experience as you might think for a warlord.

I knew the source material of the show and I saw the 1980s version so I knew that this will be the way things will happen, and this episode is the end of Mariko's journey. But like a child I waited for a miracle to happen during the end of the episode. R.I.P. Mariko-sama.

The last moment of Mariko its like the Red Wedding which I cant watch the second time.

Shinobi portrayal in Shogun 2024 is authentic not wearing black colored uniform. Shinobi uses other dark color such as Gray, Brown Navy Blue or Maroon.

Imagine if those flint pistols could hold WAY more than one bullet at a time? Blackthrone would be John Wicking all over that place with no effort at all!

Having Shinobi pull up was honestly so cool, I wasn't expecting that. I knew Mariko died in the book but I didn't know how (plus the show changed some other characters' deaths) so I thought they were changing the show after the fake out seppuku scene

This is one of the best parts of the book, Blackthorne casually blasting ninjas. The cool thing is using a firearm in place of swords would usually seem dishonorable to samurai, but since ninja are considered dishonorable backstabbing sneaks I doubt anybody cares that he's popping off headshots.

The ninja is so terrifying.

In the book she actually survives but Blackthorne didn't know she survived. So Blackthorne commits sudoku. But then Mariko wakes up, but her entire body was badly burnt. She was permanently encased in samurai armor when Toranaga conquers Osaka. When she asked Lord Toranaga what happened to Blackthorne, Toronaga says that, "Blackthorne thought you were dead. In his anger, he commited suduko". And then Mariko was like "NOOOOO!!!" then kills Buntaro by choking him. Then she looks at Lord Toronaga and starts laughing. Toronaga also laughs(the book doesn't explain why). Then the book describes Toronaga and "Lord" Mariko looking at a HUGE castle being built in Osaka where the rooftop has like a really HUGE cannon.

Toranaga (in this series, I have not yet read the book) but after Mariko’s death, I now realize he is a master manipulator. He doesn’t necessarily enjoy or WANT to lose people but if it furthers his goals - so be it. To me, he touts not wanting to be Shogun but very much does.
