Back in 1987 I almost died in a motorcycle accident. I was 17 then and a frind of mine gave me a copy of this album (it was a tdk cassette copy). I listened to it almost every day during the five months it took me to recover. I learnt the lyrics by hard, I used to sing them aloud with tears in my eyes and a smile in my face. I feel exactly the same now every time I play it again. Greetings from Argentina.

After hearing this song, I too, named my youngest daughter, Kayleigh. I saw Marillion a few months before she was born. For months, my wife and I listened to this song nearly every day before she was born. After already having had five children, Kayleigh was to be the last child we would have. She was an absolute joy. A perfect, beautiful baby. At the time, I was taking night classes in International Business Administration to finish my BS degree at the University of _ _. Three months after her birth, while I was in class, someone from the office came and said I had an important phone call from one of my neighbors. I was told by this neighbor to get to the hospital as quickly as possible without telling me why. Upon arriving at the hospital, I found that Kayleigh had passed away due to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). The grief and loss my family experienced still exists today. To anyone who reads this ... LOVE your children, spouse, family, and friends. You never know when someone you love is taken away. Forgive petty squabbling, serve each other, be kind and considerate, and live for others. That's all I have to say. Peace, Blessings, and Grace

@PAC-fp9hy Год назад
In terms of progressive rock bands, I think that Fish took over that responsibility once Roger Waters left Pink Floyd. Although there are some similarities with Genesis in parts, to say that Marillion were derivative of Genesis is just lazy journalism. Genesis never produced anything as powerful as Misplaced Childhood or Clutching At Straws. Steve Rothery is a real rock fan's guitarist and Fish inherited Water's crown.

@@PAC-fp9hyAs an early fan of both Genesis and Pink Floyd (I'm 59), I love unconditionally Misplaced Childhood and Script for a Jester's Tear and the great scottish poet Fish. Honestly, I find more Genesis than Pink Floyd in this music. Yet, I wouldn't say that Marillion are more powerful than Genesis, simply because it can't be true (all tracks in Trespass, Nursery Crime, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, and some of the following songs), are timeless classic of unbelievably high skill and power under any profile.

When this album was released I was in 1st year of college and struggling. I had just been diagnosed with depression and was unable to get over crap from my childhood. This album captivated me as the title song captured so much of my emotional state. This album and “Quadrophenia” actually helped me work through a lot of stuff. Holds a special place in my heart.🌺

1986, I was 20yrs old, fresh out of the army (conscription) Singapore. I was in London by myself and my first time out of Asia. As I walked along the streets of London, I was listening to this album playing from a pirated cassette tape on my cheap imitation Walkman. Marillion sounded very "English" enhanced by the environment.

My 14 years older sister has buy this album and played it the whole day through, when i was a little boy. I did like the cover very much more than te songs on the record. Today on her 35th anniversery year of diëng, i do play it for her with many tears in my eyes. Oh my gosh, i miss her so damn very much. She was so pretty and heartly. I can't understand why she must passed the way. Today this album has turned to my absolute brilliant favourit albums. Her name is write with red letters on the left corner on the top. And every time i read her name, it's just like she is standing next to me and has lay her hand on my shoulder. @@FrozenHero2010 But there were some very good creations in his solo career. SHADOW PLAY to me is one of the strongest of them, and some more mentionable, for instance LUCKY, CLICHÉ and some more. Marillion was never the same since he went away, but, nevertheless, have some fine songs over the years. AFRAID OF SUNLIGHT was a very fine album and OCEAN CLOUD is one of the most impressive progrock pieces ever written. If I may extend your horizon, listen to MOSTLY AUTUMN who were founded about a decade later than MARILLION. Pieces like WINTER MOUNTAIN, THE NIGHT SKY, THE GAP IS TOO WIDE or MOTHER NATURE will burn into your mind and never let you go again.

One of my best memories was seeing Marillion live in a club in Poughkeepsie, NY. When Fish went out into the audience during "Lavender," he went up to the two girls I was hanging with to sing with him. They had never heard the music before, so they couldn't. He looked at me and shrugged, and we sang, arms around each other. He approached me again, in Philadelphia many years later on a solo tour. I like to think he remembered me but probably not. I imagine it was the first and possibly only time he sang that with a guy from the crowd. What a memory!

When this came out I was 16. Now I´m 55 and I still love it. The problem with this album is: you must not just listen to it, you have to be able to feel it. If you are not, it´s probably just another album from another band. If you are, its one of the best albums of all pop/rockhistory. Marillion with Fish wasn´t as successfull as they deserved, because there are not enough people out there to feel. Well, obviously here you can find a lot of them/us 🙃

Ah, truer words hath never been spoken by mortals, my friend! I just found this site, yet have been a raging Marillion AND Fish fanatic since - while home on leave in 85?86? - 'Kayliegh' video came-up on MTV. I was HOOKED like a heroin addict - bought Misplaced that day - and within 3 months acquired every piece of vinyl they'd produced. I had a rough go in the service - okay... my entire life... and these blokes (all of them Fish, Steve, Aitch, Pete, Ian, Mark, Mick, Brian..I credit ALL of them) - all honesty, here - saved my life, more than once! My biggest regret in life (among many...) is, when they toured the States...last time w/ Fish (unbeknownst to us, at the time...), I was too much of a lush - missed them live w/Mr. Dick on the Misplaced Tour! Ahhh, but I HAVE seen Fish, once, live...and Marillion twice ( and, I gotta' give props, here...thanks to one those shows, I'm now also a big,big,big fanatic of Spock's Beard! Like Frosted Flakes, theyyy'rre GREEAAT! Aaaand...gotta say, here, Aitch ( & all of them) - at the last time I saw 'em live, blew me the fuck away... after about, maybe 5 or 6 songs...Mark's fingers began Pseudo Silk Kimono, & I thought, 'No way... that's Fish's'! grrr.' - BUT... Mister Hogarth won my soul that night. He put his heart & soul in it...and did the impossible...sang Misplaced like an angel...he OWNED it... I love Fish & I love Marillion. Period. And that's that.
