From Recital Of The Script, the song which has allowed Marillion to skyrocket among the progressive bands back in the 80's. A Personal Favorite, which is greatly interpreted by Fish.
I'm proud to have grown up with such bands and i feel sorry for the young people who only listen to ephemeral music. I'll be 60 and I'll be 20 again with this music. thanks for that!!!
Marillion siempre me ah facinado y veces tengo que escucharlo pero es tan complejo y lleno de armonía que no logro escucharlo. Pero siempre eh considerado que es una banda de culto . Esto es arte
Will Fish ever realize how deep these songs are engraved in our hearts? How we love every second of this music and every single word pronounced? How we used to fall asleep listening to his songs and play them again as soon as we woke up? The best years ever, the best songs ever. I'm 34 now and I can tell you: the present years are nothing compared to those 20 years ago. Thank you, Fish!
Absolutely brilliant, i saw Marillion on every tour. Even walking 10 miles to see them. This song always brings a tear to my eyes. Without Fish and Marillion there would be no Dream Theatre. Love and respect to this incredible band.
Fish's poetic, unique delivery about his breakup with then-girlfriend Kay is a such a deep, touching piece of brutally honest male self-pity that every guy can relate to in their hearts. Fish genuinely wore his heart on his sleeve and that's why his lyrics and delivery touch so deep. Both Marillion and Fish were never quite the same after he left.
I still sing this Album from beginning to end whilst driving, next year is Fish's Farewell tour apparently and I shall be there. Simply Love ❤ Marillion when 🐟 was their vocalist......Music of a certain calibre stays with you a lifetime, this will be something I will value until I cease to be.... Wonderful
Trying to get Marillion on several vocal analysis channels here. So far no luck. Come on you all. This album and this live performance are legendary. The lyrics, the music, Fish. Epic songs that really have meaning. True musicians.
all live no playback THAT´S Art .. delivering a message, emotion and heartpiece. That´s what´s ment to be Artist... He opens fully and gives it all. No trix, no cheats.. all them.. and him.
i borrowed a Vinyl from my Friend back in the 80' and listened to this over and over again thinking about my Love when i was 18 or so. Now am 48 with a 2 and half years old kid and it still is the best shit !
This song will always be as one of the best prog rock songs ever composed. Lyrics , composition are exceptional. Unique song that touches everybody's heart and soul.
I just started getting into Marillion during these shitty times. Put on this album and went for a walk during a rainy autumn evening ... there are no words to descrice that experience.
Music of my youth. I can't even tell you how many times I got lost in this melody. It wasn't the first song I heard from Marillion but it's one of my favorites. And to think I bought the LP because I liked the cover.
I have all the Marillion's albums in vinil, but only with Fish, Marrilion without Fish or Fish without Marillion are like a ocean without fishes. Salutes from Brazil 🇧🇷
RICHTIG SO MARILLION OHNE FISH WAR DANACH NICHT DAS GLEICHE FISH WAR EIN EINZIGARTIGER PERFORMER UND SÄNGER.SEINE THEATRALISCHEN AUFTRITTE UNERREICHT.SUPER 80ER SOUND😊😊
March 31, 2020... What happened? I first heard Marillion in the summer of 1986. A young girl introduced them to me. That young girl is long gone. That me is long gone. What happened? It becomes so painfully obvious that it was life that happened, when you watch the Fish updates on Weltschmerz. Here he was a young man with a painted face. Now an old wise man living for his tomato plants. Just like me.
In my humble opinion, the magic that Marillion created when the lights of the great progressive rock bands went out, back in the 80s, ended without Fish.
One of the greatest songs ever! I keep coming back to Marillion time and time again, and the music is so fabulous it makes me wanna cry every single time! Still perfect!
I saw this wonderful band with my son at the Brixton Academy in the mid eighties a truly wonderful night my son later died of cancer this bring back a wonderful memory
I saw them in Paris after Brussels. One of the organizers I met in Brussels let me go backstage in Paris at the end of the concert where I ran straight in to Fish .. he gave me three kisses. Magical moment. Never to forget. Marillion is Fish.. fish is marillion ..never the same again. Amazing music.
I have always loved this song. It's a masterpiece. Marillion is definitely one of my all time favorite bands. I wish Fish was still with them. He is a brilliant lyricist and singer.
...London Marquee 1982...Thank you indeed Marillion for the great musical experience that you have surrendered to me...no matter if some journalists at that time from MM & NME used to claim that you were just an imitation of Peter Gabriel's Genesis...you used to be amazing & you still are...and let the Jesters scream...
Amazing how Peter Gabriel influenced all progressive rock. Fish and his makeup reminds me of the Genesis of the 70s. Amazing live performance of a progressive rock masterpiece
i bought the DVD of this gig for my dad for Christmas just got around to watching, turns out he was there, i'm so jealous i love marillion and i'm only 16.
I didn't get turned on to Marillion until 2000. I was browsing and saw the artwork on cover to "The Thieving Magpie" and thought that they looked like a cool band and was curious. It didn't take long for me to get hooked. I love how this band is so talented to constantly be changing up their rhythms and melodies without missing a beat. They are not afraid to use unconventional beat numbers in their measures such as transitioning from 3 beats, to 4 beats and often using 5's and 7's which take an amazing amount of talent. The only other band that is talented enough to do that is the band Rush. Steve Rothery is one of the best guitarists I have ever listened to. His greatest strength is his ability to absolutely mesmerize an audience with his guitar solos. I would rank him right up there with Alex Lifeson from Rush. Mark Kelly is amazing on the keyboard and with his help, Marillion is probably the most melodic band ever that ever lived. The bass and the drums are so on point that they are practically dancing with each other. Last but not least is Fish. He is probably the most unique singer out there. If you judged him on singing ability alone, tone, range, control, stability, etc..., Simon Cowell would probably run him off the stage telling him he's awful. Now before you start throwing stones wait, and you will see where I'm going with this. Because there is something else that Fish brings to the table which is far "greater" than his singing alone. It is his energy and passion and masterful lyrics. He is an incredible lyricist. His lyrics are so filled with such a poetic style and imagery that he could put some of the greatest poets to shame. Fish's singing is theatrical and full of emotion and passion. When he sings he pours his very soul out the the audience with each syllable and every note. He carries such charisma and passion, that even if he misses a key, he still connects with the audience. Now if I had to compare singing ability alone, Hogarth is a far better singer than Fish. However with all the other aforementioned things that Fish brings to the table, I believe that songs such as "Script for a Jesters Tear", can only be done by Fish! It wouldn't be the same with any other singer.
Marillion is by far the most amazing band I have ever heard. The intensity of their music truly portrays the reality of life that is lived with passion in every way. Every song reaches right for my heart & reminds me that life is love. And love is why we live. "Can you still say you love me? Can you still say you love? Can you still say, That you love me? Do you love me? Do you love me? Do you LOVE me? Do you love me? Do you LOVE me? A Jester's Tears" Thank you for making life more beautiful & complete.
Marillion for me ended when Fish left, they were just insanely incredible during this era., im 100% OLD line up, the BEST and still even now can't be touched.
This songs makes me relive (as a female version) the time when the love of my life left me... It's been 13 years already, the one and only man I really loved. Fish becomes what he sings. And he is so underrated as a poet. He's magnificent.
That voice - shivers up the spine, even hearing the cracks coming in. His stage presence, the audience in his palm even before they all knew the lyrics. Man with a mullet and no costume and you cant take your eyes off him. Magnificent magnetic FISH.
Fish is genuinely an amazing singer. I'd say his the best singer that has ever lived. There's that certain type of melancholy and beauty in his voice. Just so... Incredible.
@@Thirdfish Yes, same here. I originally thought Fish was Marillion's first singer, only found out later about the Peter Gabriel era. But I prefer the Fish era.
I love Script, and pretty much anything Fish has ever put out. So many great beautiful songs with Marillion and on his own, and amazing lyric writing... a true poet.
I'm losing on the swings..I'm losing on the roundabouts...how can I remember all the lyrics to this in 2021...great album..great track...if you first encountered this when it came out...great band..and Fish was Marilillion...and Steve was and is the most underrated guitar man ever...
Wenn Sie, die gekommenen Engel, nicht mehr hier auf diesem Planet sind, so dürfen manche von uns Ihnen herzliche Seelengrüsse auf einer anderen Ebene geben. ...... Michael
Can you imagine almost 40 years ago , my father bought a cd -playe and the first cd I played was Marillion : what a noise explosion of pure music and clean basses - what an experience
Chills.... that night in 83 was incredible. I don't remember how many shows on that tour I went to. The Hammersmith nights were just amazing. As stupid as it seems now, if felt like WE had made it! Having followed them from small college shows to this. When they played Grendel as the encore, the place went insane.
One of the greatest compositions ever. Marillion is in the same breath as any other legendary Prog Rock bands. Fish’s vocals are always emotional and gut wrenching. Thank God you RU-vid so we can relive these moments of our youth... over and over
