I've been listening to Marilyn McCoo, forever {it seems}, and I love different voices, of all sorts of genres. I honestly believe she could sing anything as good or better than any other singer in history. This lady can just flat out own any song she wants.
So much beauty, class and talent. Its a pity Marilyn is not on TV in one way or another. Would love to see her in a movie or series. Maybe hosting her own show. I can only dream.
Fabulous and breathtaking !!! As a singer and trained both in Opera and pop.......... this performance is a blend! I want to pay to be trained by her at any price!! The song speaks to me on so many levels. I have an Autistic teen and sometimes need to cry! I have heard this about 10 times and each time it brings me to tears LOL a good thing !
I could watch her sing all day and I could listen to her sing all week and never get bored. She is such a powerhouse I think she should get more recognition as one of the great vocalists of our time Glenn Augustyn
as a long time PBS fan, i can't believe i am just now seeing this performance. thank you for sharing - very much appreciated - from one M.McC fan to another.
Wonderful, as usual for Marilyn McCoo; a beautiful, graceful, emotive performance. It was mostly faithful to the version from the stage show, and the changes were appropriate and not jarring. Also, I notice that she did not audibly tank up on a big breath before that long climb on the word "shaaaaaaaaaaaame," unlike most singers. There are a few tricks to make a breath last all the way through a long phrase, and sound supported, but she sounded natural, strong and impressive. Great performance.
I think this was from the late 80's or early 90's. Marilyn was born in 1943...so she would have been in her mid to late 40's. NOW she's in her late 60's (and looks great!!)
Everything Marilyn sings is done with exceptional beauty, grace and quality. She is a true professional and amazing talent! Imagine if she had of walked out on BGT and delivered this.
Marilyn is an elegant singer with immense control and a wide range. She was better than so many of her contemporaries and deserevd much greater success as a solo artist.
Susan Broyle does a great job singing this song .. The difference with Marilyn is that she not only sings it she makes U FEEL it .. Thats what makes a GREAT performer & artist ..
I believe your correct at the end of your comment. but this is a showcase to show Marilyn's amazing vocal ability! I also don't believe He would have left when Autumn came if it was such a classy and beautiful lady as Marilyn Mccoo he spent his Summer with!
@celticdollface Hi there. Sorry but this is incorrect. I have this concert...it was from around 1990/91....so that would put Ms. Marilyn in her late 40s in this clip.
this is a recording sent to me, courtesy of another RU-vid'r who likes Marilyn McCoo. I don't know of any other broadcasts of Marilyn singing this song, but she must have had it in her act for a number of years... do you have any recordings of MM to post?
@fergonuria, the same thing happened to me tonight. I've been basically listening to her all my life but today really discovered her. I'm going from video to video of her. She's so beautiful and her voice is from heaven. I can't get enough. This is one of my favorite parts of this song. What talent. 2:13.
Marilyn had a three-octave range in her prime--so she's floating around from alto to soprano. Had you heard her live back then, you'd have been amazed at how beautiful her voice was.
Interesting, the first time I heard this song was when Marilyn hosted Solid Gold. That version was better because she didn't rush it like she seemed to do this version. Anyway I have always been a big fan.
she' pretty well retired. She sang with the 5th Dimention in the 60's and on Solid Gold in the 80's. She can sing anything better than anyone in my opinion! On Solid Gold she sang all the hits of the day and ussually better than the original artist.
A SECRET so sneaky for Susan Boyle uses to make us cry. Just watch 140 Tubarc - Susan Boyle Secret Code for Weeping. Give me a feedback if you were smart enough to get it . . ..
This puts Susan Boyle to shame - just my opinion. SUSAN WHO?!?! (Sammy Davis' version of this on the 1989 MDA Telethon is the only one that is on par / surpasses this.)
Beautifully done. I hate the musical arrangement. It was so weak and wimpy. Marilyn's voice could have stood up to a stronger arrangement with no problem.
Am I the only one that thinks this version kind of...misses the point. This is a really interesting beat, but its way too animated for the mood of the song. In any case, she has a great voice and the last 10 seconds were perfect.
She did a good job on the song. Not great but good. One problem I have is not with her voice but with her outfit. Singing the song from Les Mis of a woman out in the world before turning to prostitution and death, done in sequins and stiletto's? NO! Takes so much away, Also, percussion was much to loud. Had it been played simply, it could have been so much more effectively. She has voice for it, but too fact and too loud a percussion and outift to die for, literally. Too bad.
