It’s really something to see a woman recognize another woman. Women can be so jealous and catty but every now and then a humble secure woman comes along and genuinely gives credit where credit is due. Some women just have a magnetism that none of us will ever have and MM had it. She is iconic.❤️

I never realized that Marilyn Monroe suffered so much like I have in terms of being gifted and hated and ganged up on for it. Wish I could just talk with her... Oh wait. I'm a medium so.... Yeah. She had real grace and class and a vulnerability that comes from being bullied a lot.
Marilyn upstaged everyone, but she didn't mean to, she was a goddess. So sad that she didn't have any family. She was a broken doll that's for sure. A beautiful broken doll.

What a lovely warm and generous woman Mitzi Gaynor is. Wouldn't it have been wonderful if Marilyn Monroe had lived and we had got to see her as a wise, witty and fascinating older lady like Mitzi - I think women get so much more interesting as they age. With maturity comes wisdom, confidence and a certain "I don't give a fuck what you think of me" air - I would have loved to have seen the older Marilyn, she could have been a fantastic kick ass mentor for women. But alas it was not to be.

Agree with mitzi…. she had her own light following her. Put her in between a 100 beautiful women - you will only look at her. And that's why she s still talked about today.
What is so incredible to me is that although she was used somehow MM rose above. The choices, sacrifices and humiliation she suffered for her fans and career were so incredibly smart to bear in hindsight. She knew the big picture and let the rest fall away. So all that remains is the best. Its as if she knew she would be gone or perhaps just that she wanted to leave a legacy no matter when she died. Really incredible in hindsight. And I think Mitzi is right, MM was "difficult" as needed.
I understand what you went through Marilyn. People who shine naturally have a hard time here on earth. You were a good person, a caring person and I think you were very disappointed in people. Not so much of the women, but with the men. Marilyn lowered herself to get where she wanted to go. They gave her no choice. SAD! And when you do that you still have to go out and face the world, and that is not a good feeling. She had a hard time right from the start, but she was still able to shine! I’ve recently read that the hotel, a masterpiece of the modernist architectural style known as MiMo (Miami Modern), has been recommended for demolition due to several years of neglect. When I first played Miami Beach in 1962, The Deauville was my home. In 1964, I shared its beautiful stage with The Beatles when we appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show broadcast live to millions across the country from the Deauville’s ballroom. It’s a moment that continues to reverberate across time and across music history. The Deauville helped establish Miami Beach as the “sun & fun capital of the world” and its showroom welcomed me and a host of artists in an era when this magic city was second only to Las Vegas as a major entertainment destination. I could go on and on about the many special memories that live within its walls…and how its mystique still lures visitors to the Miami. My wish is that this great lady of show business will somehow be saved and restored to its former glory. I hope the good people of the City of Miami Beach & its officials will help. At 51 years old, ive only just started to really care who Marilyn was, amd it is the most heartbreaking thing. Over the past couple of weeks ive seen quite a few docs on her and each one echos the tragedy told by the last. I never had a clue she was so "alone".
I am so glad Mitzi speaks with some insight and grace on Marilyn, since she knew her early on in her career, when she was more stable and acting more naturally in front of the camera. By the time Tony Curtis and then Laurence Olivier worked with her, she was much more insecure and seemed to endlessly irritate them. But oh, if they only knew: Marilyn was raised until the age of 15 in an orphanage and bad things happen to unprotected, beautiful girls in places like that. I saw a picture of Marilyn standing with the other orphanage children, when she was about seven. There is such a look of despair, quiet desperation and abandonment, her countenance looks markedly different from the other children. I believe her abuse started that early. One of the hallmarks of being chronically sexually abused is that you have Multiple Personality Disorder, where you compartmentalize what has happened to you so you can 'get on with life'. When we see her coming across as that "little, vulnerable girl, I believe we are seeing one of her personalities. Marilyn also showed evidence that she had been severely sexually abused for years growing up in that that she had a complete lack of personal boundaries when she gave a famous interview to a journalist. As she sat on a chair, she pulled open her robe to reveal she had nothing on underneath and she proceeded to nonchalantly comb her pubic hair as she talked with the journalist. This kind of behavior would be the result of experiences that taught her that her body was not her own, not private. This is NOT normal behavior, of course but think beyond your horror of it: it is the footprints of people who used her body as a child. I am convinced it is why she had such psychiatric difficulties as an adult, and not just because she never grew up in a loving home. Her psychiatrist attested that he invited her into his home, to sit around the table with him and his wife and children so she could see what a normal home life was like. But I don't believe he ever uncovered the abuse and the Multiple Personality Disorder that went with it. I became convinced she had MPD when I saw a close up film interview with Marilyn where she exhibited, as she moved toward the camera and then it (the camera) was inches from her face, the characteristic "micro-expressions" that pass over a person's face as they transition from one personality to another. I grieve for Marilyn and all the girls like her who retreat into MPD because of horrifying life experiences.
I don't think It was multiple personality disorder. However she was sexually and verbally abused as a child then as a adult Norma was used sexually to gain employment as a actress. Therefore she felt the despair of being taken advantage of and the abandonment from not having a family. A family that truly cared for her and loved her. A industry of men that used her. I love Marilyn. I wish she could have stayed long enough to know how much she is loved and respected today. The studios (producers) were horrible to actresses and she took all the heat.

I saw There's No Business like Show Business at least 30 years ago when I was a preteen. I only remember two things about the show and both are about Marilyn. The scene where they all walked down the stairs. I didnt remember any dress of the ladies except I totally recall that Marilyn wore blue. Remarkable iconic star.
I loved mitzi soo much. She was my favorite during those great musicals of the 1950s and 60s. I took dancing lessons thinking i could dance like her.....nope, never happened.
A P this is true as well. Her environment in her later years would have been different if someone introduced her to God. This was not going to happen in Godless Hollywood.

Mitzi looks great too! Marilyn needed parents to guide her in youth. This beautiful needed a husband. I think that 2 husband was the healthiest one for her. Not the Kennedy men. They were married public figures. Marilyn had great potential -she just needed parents real bad!

He beat her up after this scene in The seven years itch. He wanted a wife who would cook him spaghetti, gave him children and took care of the house. And then he married Marilyn Monroe. Not so smart.... She threw him out after the beating and divorced him. That's a fact. Wanting to remarry DiMaggio is not a fact. He helped her during the last year of his life? Big time. But that doesn't mean their marriage wasn't a disaster.
I like Mitzi Gaynor. I think she is one of the undervalued stars of the Hollywood studio system, Unfortunately for her , though she was being groomed to be the next 20Th Century Fox musical star, Marilyn came along. In later interviews, available on RU-vid, she is not so generous in her comments about Marilyn. It's understandable but its not very nice.
If Mitzi's not very nice comments were about waiting for 96 takes, or waiting 6 hours for MM to appear on the set....hmmm..maybe, she was justified? That's kind of ridiculous that she talks about the 96 takes as if they were nothing in this interview. She was,like every other human being in that situation, fucken pissed off .No one's thinking about someone's mental illness at times like that..Get real. And Marilyn was no Angel, she was human like all of us. I don't think she cared for Mitzi. And what she did could be looked at as cruel. She did an imitation of Mitzi for her roommate(when she lived with the Strasberg) Susan Strasberg that was so right on , it had Susan on the floor laughing. I am guessing that it was not a complimentary imitation.. So there's another look at Marilyn and Mitzi,as just like us, just two more human beings, no one is better or worse than another. Poor Marilyn didn't have anyone to share her success with. No dad, no mom, no siblings. 😢 What a pity she was so misunderstood. Now I think many women can identify with having no self confidence but, no family. That is a lot to deal with.
Mitzi Gaynor in her prime was so beautiful, talented, and professional that only Marilyn Monroe could make her look less than she was. In the '60s I studied the great musicals and productions of Hollywood's '30s and '40s and boy did I have a crush on Mitzi Gaynor.
Marilyn was a one of a kind talent. The biggest mistake she made was announcing she was going to hold a press conference the next day to disclose her relationship with JFK. The night before that press conference she "over dosed" & died. The missing pages from the White House Telephone Log have never been recovered for incoming calls of that fateful night. Once when Marilyn was leaving the Payne Whitney Clinic/ Hospital after being admitted there an interviewer caught her leaving.....Asked her if she was Marilyn Monroe and she said "No I'm Mitzi Gaynor".
How do I suppose to feel about myself? Marilyn being so beautiful, knowing that she atracted people like no one, and yet, so insecure! How do I suppose to feel about myself? And yet I am content within myself. Maybe Marilyn had an idea of how the character in the movie should behave but she didn't quite grasp that idea to put it in the film. Maybe she was so demanding of herself. One thing is sure, she respected her work and wanted to excell at it.
It's painfully obvious that Monroe's quote of 'Hollywood pays $1000 for a picture and $1 for your soul' seems true. You get financially rich but almost always lose yourself in the process.
