She was the most complex, incredible, magnificent woman. She was the love of my life that girl.' William Travilla
He was her favorite designer. Marilyn autographed a nude calendar for Travilla with the words, 'Billy Dear, please dress me forever. I love you, Marilyn.'
William Travilla - American costume designer in films. He is perhaps best-known for dressing Marilyn Monroe. He first met Marilyn in 1950, when she asked if she could borrow his fitting room - he was one of several contract designers for Twentieth Century Fox - to try on a costume. They worked together on eight movies: Monkey Business (1952), Don't Bother to Knock (1952), Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953), There's No Business Like Show Business (1954), River of No Return (1954), The Seven Year Itch (1955), and Bus Stop (1956).

A friend of mine was Travilla's lover. We were at his house in Palm Springs, and he showed me the gold lamé dress that is so famous. I couldn't believe it was THE dress, but it was, and it was like corrugated gold paper, with a metal V shaped piece that put the cleavage in perfect place. It was a thrill to feel and touch that dress. It had some sweat stains and I was like OMG, that's MM's DNA!

That was a nice gesture to end with a picture of William Travilla. He was a gifted designer who is a significant part of the MM story. For the outfit with the sash around the waist, I was surprise to see Marilyn wearing loose slacks; I would have expected something much closer to the body but maybe the censors had a say in how tight the pants could or couldn't be. Nice the way the gown before that had a jacket to go with it. Nice if celebrities would get back to dressing with more class. Some great gowns for Marilyn but I like her best in a sleeveless blouse with the shirttails out and pedal-pusher and with her hair loose.
