In modernity, “toleration” acquired a religious and political meaning. For Stuart Mill, it was the voice of the minorities against the tyranny of the majorities. John Locke wanted to be tolerant to the intolerant. Today we need to be intolerant when it comes to human dignity and the construction of liberty.
But which are the limits of being tolerant/intolerant, asks Marina Calloni from Milan’s Bicocca University, and what does Zero Tolerance mean?
