Hey loves! I know it’s late but I’ve finally uploaded my first yt vid (I’ve had a crazy schedule and crap wifi since I created this vid in Dec!). 2019 was a beautiful year - but in so many ways, utterly heartbreaking. This is my own personal reflection on 2019 & how working in the field as a marine biologist impacted me emotionally. Enjoy! Mads xox
(p.s if u follow my insta you'll know that I'm not actually in Ningaloo any more)

Absolutely love this video! I'm a bachelors student finally beginning field work in marine bio. I think this video struck a perfect balance between displaying both the sobering reality of the state of our oceans and the places in which hope remains (the latter is often forgotten and an utter relief to hear). Thank you for doing this vitally important job, and I can't wait to join!

I can relate to your emotions so much. I have grown up by the red sea and the coral reefs are my backyard. Seeing them slowly get worse over time is the most heart breaking thing for me ever. When I graduate school and then Uni as a marine biologist, I am really hoping I can come back here and do my part to help and save the ocean that have brought so much joy to my life.

This upload reached me. It is truly heart breaking how not only is life being affected by humans but how most of us are living almost by accident. Working their 9-5. Dumping their trash in a garbage bin- which probably falls out of a dumpster truck at some point and nothing is done to help it. It is sad how these types of people avoid shopping sustainably and even leave trash on the side of our beaches: on our Mother Earth, who houses not only us, but other living organisms as well. Not only us. I truly wish people could just digest that phrase for a second. People are so fixated on searching for something to fill themselves up (numb themselves). The solution is not to plug the empty hole inside of you. the solution is you . People don’t have to have a higher consciousness or indulge in personal development to avoid littering but at this point, there needs to be some sort of personal work in order to achieve people to be mindful of not only the humans around them, but the other forms of life around them too. It’s so easy to live by accident, get a 9-5, and forget other beings exist other than ourselves.

It's my dream to become a marine biologist; I'm studying as hard as I can and I hope to god one day I'll be able to make a signifigant positive impact in the makings of a more beautiful ocean. I'm terrified I'll never get the chance to see what the ocean could have been before tourism, pollution and over fishing killed it.

This video it's incredible! I also want to be a marine biologist, I'm scared because people keep telling me that is so difficult to find a company and that If I do find one they are not going to pay me much, I don't really care that much about the money and I think that this proffesion is gorgeous and very interesting. I'm aware of the climate change and I try to convince everybody of how important it is. I really like your RU-vid videos please keep doing them❤️🐬🐙

This is such an emotionally charged video! As a fellow marine biologist and ocean conservationist, I really FELT this video. Oftentimes in environmental sciences, the drive to be an objective scientist can lead to a disassociation from your own emotions. But in reality, this field is becoming increasingly gut-wrenching. "Environmental scientists should be allowed to cry." Well done!

Thank you for sharing this...I feel so helpless when it comes to this. I’ve seen dull waters and corals in Bali too....it’s heartbreaking. I’m a professional theatre performer, and my other love is the ocean. Both loves of mine are dying, and I understand how you feel. Feeling helpless when there is so much life and love to restore on this planet (our freaking home) and to be enjoyed it’s hard to fathom. It’s stressful being around some people, who don’t want to learn, make changes or have such little care for the planet, I can’t help but blame the system. But your video is so honest, open about how fucked up shit is and heart felt, that I have hope. The fact that you are out there, and are also so moved by your work and by coral, this gives me hope. Thank you for this....such a stunning and important video x Namaste x

That's an incredible video. Thank you. It combines science, experience and emotion in a way that few people manage to do. We've had the identical experience to you in Borneo, just shocked by the Palm Oil Plantations right up to the boundary of national parks. And also at Ningaloo, which seems to be one of the last untouched large reef systems around (the Rowley's are almost pristine, too).

Wow, just wow! I haven't seen or hear anything like it before in my own life....marine journalism. Nice, I KNOW this channel is going to go far! (It has to) Like regular journalism, you guys are at the front lines of reporting news that's actually happening and have eye-witness proof. Also, underwater photography? I always love taking photos and underwater would be awesome but I also know it's harder to take pictures underwater because how far light hits down under. Keep sharing your stories!

Beautifully done Mads!! Welcome to RU-vid. Can't wait to watch more amazing videos. I hope you are able to get back out there and do more science work. I've been to Raja and the coral blew my mind, so beautiful to see. Then come home to Florida and see the dying coral here makes me unbelievably sad and sick to my stomach. I hope we can turn things around. Thanks again for the heartfelt video.
