Marine Combat Instructors: Building Combat Ready Marines 

Now on to what i was going to say. 50 yrs ago, before going to the dirty little war in viet nam, 1968 - '69, as an 0311. Our infantry training course wasn't bad, it worked at the time. But face it, we were rather rushed through. As for what I'm seeing...this is OUTSTANDING. Remember, KNOWLEDGE IS STRENGTH. These young Marines will have had a more concise, direct, great information regarding fighting in war. And let me say this; WAR SUCKS, BUT WITH THE NUMBER OF ASSHOLES, DICTATORS OR POWER HUNGRY, WAR STARTING COCKSUCKERS OUT THERE...SOMEBODY BETTER KNOW HOW TO FIGHT WAR. This has paid dividend I had a company of logistics and mechanic, when we got attacked in Iraq in 03, they reacted flawlessly. Best training in all of the services. They do an outstanding job at MCT.

brings back memories. i was a MCT tactics instructor at camp geiger back when it started in the late 80s. i taught patrolling, ambushes, handling pows and assauting tanks.

06:52 yeah right dude. "Let me stick my entire fucking weapon through this window so the enemy can grab it and pull me in". Holy shit. Like I know you're not a grunt but that should be common sense. In ITB they told us first thing when pie'ing off a window to never put your muzzle into it.

In the early 60's boot camp was 12 weeks and then directly to ITR (Infantry Training Regiment) for 5 weeks no matter what your MOS was. 2 years later I reported to Camp Pendelton for Escape and Evasion School prior to leaving for Viet Nam. I was a POG but spent lots of time outside of my MOS. I volunteered for everything I could. I would do it again if they would take me.

A lot has changed in MCT since I went through in 2003. I'm glad it has but then again it's what Marines do, adapt. Wish I went through it all again, it was some fun and good times!!

I gotta say, I'm unhappy with the current state of MCT. No grenades, no room clearing, hardly any patrolling. I just don't feel like I've been properly trained to hold my own in a combat deployment.

I think my MCT instructor summed it up best when he said "ITB is to learn how to skull fuck, MCT is to learn how NOT to be skull fucked" Learn what you can and you will be fine.

Back in my day you had Corporals on the drill field and Lcpl's teaching classes at MCT under the watchful eyes of corporals and sergeants of course. I think rank was a lot more respected than than it is now from Marines that I talk to now. However the Marines have always been very good on small unit leadership. It's also my opinion they should let corporals back on the drill field

From this video, only thing I never did in combat training was never fired a M203 grenade launcher. That sucks we never learned to shoot one.

MCT for me was 4th phase bootcamp. All of my instructors were POGS and weren't really helpful. They didn't let's us really do anything we were studying. Like adjusting the machine fire when you have to shoot. It was a waste of time.

How these people remember everything.

all marines go through basic training and finish with the crucible right ? why don't they just add MCT to the basic training of ALL marines? in any case this is a must for all branches of the armed forces not just the marines
