I have a 13 year old nephew who wants to join the military. I asked them what branch. Without hesitation he said "the Marines, because they're the toughest." Part of that might be because I'm a former Marine and he has heard my stories and he looks up to me, but his answer was the same reason why I chose the Marines. That only proves the point you made earlier about people wanting to be challenged, and that doesn't change generation to generation. Maybe to all the woke sissies, but those are not the ones we want in the military anyway. He was honestly confused by the woke army ad. After watching it he turned to me and asked "why would cream puffs want to join the military in the first place?" I had to answer "I don't know."

Peacetime is peacetime while any armed conflict no matter how long it's still conflict, the low KIA or casualty number doesn't change the fact that anyone deployed can not make it back. Bosnia had US Servicemembers from 1995-2004. First Gulf war, while Desert Storm was over after approximately 100 hrs, our Servicemembers spent months deployed in the Desert from August 2, 1990 to Jan 17, 1991. The deployment was under combat conditions. Drills, Drills under very hot temperatures, Spec. Ops units conducting Recon missions behind enemy lines and so on. I've never served, but earlier in my life I seriously considered. At that time when considering branches, the marines definitely seemed like hard mode but it was the choice I would have gone with I believe. I remember hearing a quote which really settled it for me that went something along the lines of "The marines will be in some of the most dangerous situations, but in those kinds of situations you'll have marines at your side watching your back." Even though I'm a different path, if I were on the battlefield I'd much rather have marines then Emmas fighting with me.

I've always wondered why people who seriously considered serving in the military decide not to. Can you provide any insight?
@michaelsciortino3385
@michaelsciortino3385 2 года назад
@@robertchapman6822 Yeah, sure thing. It's a complicated topic so there are a handful of factors. I was in high school when I was thinking about it and basically just decided to give college a go first since you can enlist as late as 26 and didn't want to get in over my head. During that time I was thinking about it in more ways than just the glory and adventure I was picturing in high school. The biggest thing is that I really didn't want to have to kill which I'd likely have to do. I eventually got into boxing which I was skilled at, but decided not to compete because I had trouble hitting people hard since I felt bad about it haha. But that made me realize even more that I'm not the kind of fighter you need to be to enlist. I do believe I had the grit and discipline to perform the job itself, but these key aspects would have taken a huge toll on me. I've since gotten into the game development industry and realized this is my true path in life. I'm not claiming I'm a genius programmer haha, but programming games is my best talent and I have a lot more potential and passion here than in the military I believe. The way I've come to see it is that defending your country is a very complicated topic and there are a lot of aspects that need defending. This might sound corny, but my current purpose feels like I need to make games that will be a good influence on the next generation. There's way too many games that are profit driven and will rot kids brains, but I really want to drive those out and replace them with games that genuinely entertain and might even teach some good lessons. When you factor in that countries like China seem to be aggressively trying to get a foot in the door with all of our media and the brain rot might be more intentional than we used to realize, it just seems like another part of life that needs defending and I know I can do a much better job here than with a rifle. I have sooo much respect for those who do defend in that area and still consider it the most tough and important job. But the modern world is tricky and ever since the USA became the strongest military by far, our enemies are looking for other vectors to bring us down. Video games sound silly at first but when you think about how the majority of our children are spending sooo much time on them growing up, it's not something we can ignore. There are a looot of leftist lunatics in this industry and it's important we push back and don't let them have a full monopoly on raising our kids. I hope that gave some insight! The short answer is I wasn't ready to kill and I found an alternate path in life that went smoother but still has meaning and importance to me and defending the country. Cheers!

I am a Vietnam Vet, Army Huey crew chief / door gunner. My dad and two of his brothers enlisted in the Army in January of '42...all saw combat in Europe, my grandpa saw action in France with the Army in WWI. Two of my great-great grandpas were in the Confederate Army. So you can see that that my natural lineage is the American Army. When I saw the "Emma" ad the first time, I slumped my shoulders and gnashed my teeth in anger and disgust. Not because of the girl's 2 mom's (that isn't her fault) but because of what my service has come to. The object of the military is to fight and win wars...the object of war is to kill people and break their stuff so they can't kill your people and break your stuff. The Army seems to have forgotten this simple premise...and, like the narrator said, forgotten their core market. God help the U.S. Army and God Bless the U.S. Marine Corps.

If there was ever a time to lose the inter-service rivalries, it's now. Sure, it's fine for football, that's just being an American. I lied about my age to join the Navy and some of my best friends at Pearl harbor were Marines (I was Shore Patrol on some duty days, so we were handling the same crap at the enlisted club). We got along really well, all of us. Partly because the locals weren't so kind to us regardless of branch. Today our military is squarely in the sights, ALL branches. While I respect the claim being made by the Marines, the UCMJ can be just as twisted for them as it has been for the other branches. At some point it will come down to orders; follow them or enjoy Kansas. It's admirable to finally hear at least one branch push back on the madness, but we really need all of them. But organizing is also in the UCMJ (SSAMs cannot protest, ever). If I see your uniform in an airport, I'm probably the guy who bought you lunch. American troops cannot afford to have the old, petty rivalries in place. It literally becomes "divide & conquer" pre-installed. And I guarantee the commies know exactly how to put that into overdrive. The Marines are really in no better shape than the Coast Guard in this regard. Most of the public knows something is wrong just by looking at the senior "leadership" currently running our forces. It's just plain bizarre, but it's firmly in place.
