Who? Hi, I am a Japanese to English translator who does clips of Vtubers, mostly from Hololive, but I'll also do VOMS from time to time. The people in these Vtuber clips do have their own channels where they do live streaming, usually games. My favorite Vtubers are Korone, Rushia & Coco, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the rest.
Why? The Vtuber idea started a few years ago in Japan with Kizuna AI. Now people from all over the world including both Japan and English speaking countries have Vtubers. I was learning Japanese since before this happened, and now I translate.
How? Learn Japanese, Learn a small amount of video editing, learn subtitling, and most of all, learn to code. (Actually most of my video editing is done automatically by code)
What? I translate interesting or funny clips I find while watching Vtubers live. I'm always open to requests and I read most of your comments, so fire away with your suggestions!
Where? The comments are good. You can also go to my community tab to post suggestions and vote in the polls. Just know links are blocked due to spam, so posting a video ID is the best way to make a suggestion.
When? Anytime.

@Finsternis..
@Finsternis.. 3 года назад
Interestingly, in the Oxford dictionaries Google uses to define words, the noun slang is described differently in different languages. In English is is what you would expect, i.e. informal, usually exclusive to groups, more common in speech. In German, for example, it actually uses what Marine probably wants to say, i.e. careless, often incorrect, sloppy expression.
@hadrast
@hadrast 3 года назад
@@Finsternis.. Two problems: ① Marine definitely meant "broken", as in dysfunctional, busted, in need of repair. There is no interpretation of the term 「片言」 that could come out as "slang", and she also used 「くそ日本語」(shitJapanese) and an allusion to Maringlish to get the point across. ② Even if you accept that German interpretation, the Japanese audio is in fact so bad that it's just broken; it doesn't work, and is incomprehensible, wrong, or not even Japanese a lot of the time. That's far worse than just carelessness or sloppiness. There really is no saving Google here.
@Finsternis..
@Finsternis.. 3 года назад
@@hadrast I mean, I just wanted to point out something I thought interesting, as I guess a lot of people use Google and their tools only in a single language and thus could not realize that the same dictionary source was delivering different definitions across different languages. I was arguing neither in favor nor disfavor of the translation Google gave. It's just a technical rational, as in a possible reason of "how" something like this can happen, even if (or maybe just because) Google was AI training their translations.

@hadrast 3 года назад
@@zkace You're right that it's ridiculous, but there is no accurate translation because it's broken syntax level bad. It's basically the older English "very good," as in "Very good, you shall be rewarded," but negated and bolted onto "you're", resulting in [You're][not][very good]. Parse fail. The common greeting よろしく that is translated as "nice to meet you" is a contraction of よろしくお願いします, and doesn't normally accept a subject or object, or undergo negation.
@rfmerrill
@rfmerrill 2 года назад
The word "yoroshii" is a formal/flowery word for "good/favorable" but it's used far more in idiomatic expressions (e.g. the pervasive 'yoroshiku o-negai shimasu') than normally. 'Omae wa yoroshikunai' literally means 'you are unfavorable' or 'you are not well' or something like that. It's a very out of place expression because 'yoroshiku' is highly formal/polite while 'omae' is a very direct/rough word. The intentionally bad Japanese comes from taking a word that is often associated with introductions and just throwing it into a basic sentence with negation. So the 'intended' "You never met" becomes a completely wacko non sequitur.

I can confirm that the Jojo parody is at least 10x funnier if you speak Japanese. It had me laughing as hard as Marine when I first saw it in Gura's stream.
@Archedgar
@Archedgar 2 года назад
Double confirmed. I found it odd that Korone and Marine asked if overseas viewers found it funny ..... I thought it was just a Jojo reference but I looked into it and it's a beautiful catastrophe in Japanese that is not appreciated by non-JP speakers, myself included. Hence the lovely reactions by JP girls but not so much by EN.

Trust me Marine, a lot of us know what Jojo is, even if we have not seen the anime we know the memes. And isn't that funny? Meme's connect everyone in one form or another.

For me as a jojo fan i really hate the overused memes a lot of people thought the anime is just some typical mediocre comedy anime then they make fun it when it's not they see the memes so much they think it's a comedy show when in reality jojo has more blood and gore than even horror shows.

So, this leads me to ask... exactly HOW bad is the Japanese in this scene? Are we talking "All your base are belong to us" levels of poor translation here? Because, if so, her reaction is totally justified.
@blacksiopao

starts of fine, then goes full on loan words + unecessary formal speech, added with a twang accent
@tanamisalt.4415
@tanamisalt.4415 3 года назад
Its ultra formal, but broken japanese, like when Henri's stand punched RHM he said hontoni "fist" wa "stoppu me" And in the part where he loses his cybernetics his dialogue suddenly got ultra formal out of nowhere.
@TheVilivan
@TheVilivan 3 года назад
@@tanamisalt.4415 I don't know Japanese, if you don't mind, can you roughly explain what "ultra formal" means in this case? Does English have an equivalent to that?
@chaon93
@chaon93 3 года назад
@@TheVilivan Best example I can think of is using fully correct grammar, literal wording, and no contractions. like saying "I would like to eat dinner now" instead of "I'm ready for dinner". The latter implies that you are hungry though context and is more natural.
@Double-Negative
@Double-Negative 3 года назад
Most of it is ungrammatical in some way, some lines just don't make sense and only 3 lines are correctly translated. "You utter fool" "Now, die" and "where did my cybernetics go" are correct. The rest are not
