Krieger quatermasters are the ones in charge of collecting bodies and salvaging their gear so when somebody gets shot, it's not a huge deal, the quatermaster would collect him eventually. Also here we see a more stable part of the front - they have enough cover and the enemy side of the trenches is bombarded heavily. The kriegers stand vigil because they expect to advance soon and the enemy is getting wrecked so much they can afford just looking out as that one headshot was an exeption. Death Corps of Krieg have a couple mobile elemements like superheavy infantry transports and their geneticly modified steeds for cavalry, so they can support pressured flanks just fine. Its not like their form of warfare is cheap in lifes but its because the enemy is getting the same casualties and likely not bearing the pressure as well. Commissars basicly always come from a different planet than the regiment to avoid comardary and too soft treatment. And the masks of Krieg for the last houple houndred years in the timeline became one of the universal symbols of dread in the galaxy. The Kriegers normally don't take them down during training, so most of them actually get fear of poisioning without them, even sleeping because the device keeps them safe from toxins and radiation in the air. They only take the mask down to eat, clean up and to patch any wounds the mask would hinder to dress. Those perticular cultists are the Vracks militia of a the world of the rebelling armoury Vracks. A traitor cardinal whipped a lone hive city complex sitting on stockpiles of gear enough to reconquer an entire sector of space, so the imperium chose to send the kriegers to fix that. The planetary siege gone so horribly wrong the fricking Inqusition had to intervene to fix it afterlike 6 chapters of space marines periodicly helped with the battle when chaos worship set in among the vracksians and they pleaded for chaos marine reinforcement. Kriegs are often marching forcibly or want to keep their weight down, so having a shovel with one sharpened side is actually a very good call. And the chainaxe the vracksian soldier had is something the imperium doesnt perticularily use because khornates use and produce those old designs. The imperium prefers swords when chaos prefers axes.

When it comes to the gas mask they're trained to treat it as a second skin not to take it off unless they're eating and such. They are always to wear it under all circumstances

The Deathkorps used to wear masks out of necessity. On other worlds, their primary use might be to conceal the fact they all are 17-18 year olds.

Kriegs guardsmen are trained to treat their full kit, gasmask included, as a second skin I don't think they are forced to keep it on but it's "highly encouraged". Also this is most likely the siege of Vraks which I would recommend the Arch series that covers it, but gas weapons were used by both sides so chances are they Kriegers would need the masks.

Yes, a Kreig-born Commissar would wear a gasmask all the time. Minor lore gripe, if this is Vraks he kinda should be wearing protective gear as the atmosphere could get pretty toxic. 4. While Commissars can serve with a regiment their whole career, it is common practice for the Office of the Commissarit to redeploy Commissars into other regiments either to replace combat losses or if additional "discipline" is required. 5. If the Commissar has the connections to have access to a power sword he would have access to good quality in-ear combead that can link to squad, company or regimental com-nets. 6. The enemy is most likely traitor militia. Not well trained or equipped but dangerous in large numbers. 7. The guy who charged at the end was carrying a chain-axe. Exactly the same tech as chainswords only axe shaped! 8. I remember that episode of Generation Kill. When the Marines all ran straight and fast between cover and the embedded journalist does the whole "serpintine" manoeuvre. Think even the sniper must have been like Wtf!

The conventional wisdom is to cover as much ground as possible in as little time as possible. Ideally, stationary support weapons will keeps heads low while the attackers advance. The defender's ability to keep attackers out of the trenches goes down drastically the closer they get, and a person can only put so many aimed shots downrange in the time it takes to cover the distance. In an assault like that, you also want to keep up the momentum. If one person stops, those behind him do too, and then the whole attack risks grinding to a halt in no man's land, where they can conveniently be obliterated.

why meme ? in world war 1 this was one of the best weapon in trench fight because bayonet on rifle was way too big to fight in such a small space and when soldiers sharpened sides they could use it as axe and even split person in half ... in the end it was much better weapon then most of the stuff you could use in such a small trench space

Iirc a comissar wearing a mask was more on a case by case basis. Kriegers just don't take it off because their uniform is their identity. Commisars usually do it to be " one with the troops" so to speak.

They cover their faces from non-Krieg. They are wary of strangers even of non-Krieg regiments, also they are teens mass created in vats. It may be disturbing to see teens storming entrenched enemy position without fear. It may be more disturbing if they look inbreed or something. Emperor only knows how good is imperial Vitae Womb technology. He had some kind of automatic axe 😅 Chain Axe😂🤣 I would say: If it is armed like PDF - planetary defense force (nicely armed PDF though, with body armor etc.) If it seems to be trained on the level of PDF. If higher-ups decided to send Krieg. It is good bet that it's some kind of planetary rebellion against the Golden Throne. Most likely on some kind of fortified world (like hive, fortress or armory world).

Kreig wear it because its their way of life really, removing their gear under most circumstances is met with reprimands. They often also use chemical/gas weapons so have them on to quickly deploy them

The original autor was SODAZ but he has been taken in by Games Workshop as an official animator, but their rule is that he had to take down all 40k related content so it's a bittersweet event.

I've always imagined that if the God-Emperor ever completely ascended, the fallen Kriegsman would be his rank-and-file daemon. Absolutely terrifying. Imagine a swarm of these boys disgorging from a warp portal, slowly advancing, overwhelming melee attackers with bayonets, shovels, and fists. Not even flinching as their companions are torn in half, vaporized, impaled, or burned alive. Anyone who survived that attack would be tormented the rest of their lives by memories of those soulless black eye pieces and the sound of heavy breathing behind those masks that are no longer metaphorically a Kriegsman's face, but literally.

The commissar could... maybe... not be of krieg! Story wise the famous commissar Gaunt had sole command of more than one regiment throughout his career! And field command of many dif guard regiments at various times!

Someone needs to tell that trooper that even if you have a damaged rifle you can still use the bayonet it'll give you a much higher advantage then getting close up with a shovel

Having a hard time buying the story about the e-tool kill. Trying to imagine a situation where someone would have a 3-piece folding shovel at the ready, but not an actual weapon while being attacked by someone equally unarmed.

Entrenching tools are a common close quarter combat weapon in Russia as I recall so I'd believe your combat instructor as it is a used and legitimate combat tool especially if it is a fixed spade model

Since the planet Krieg is now a death world that is covered in nuclear waste, it is hard to breath and a Kriegsman has to be born basically every single minute. The Death Corps of Krieg have to produce 50 million troops a year so every soldier is literally put on rush order. When the Krieg said "Hey were sorry for the whole civil war on our planet, are we cool?" the Imperium said "Nah send us one regiment and we will be." The Krieg replied "Well its a good thing i brought these 20 regiments with me, now send us to the most dangerous battlefield you can find." Now the planet of Krieg must produce 50 million soldiers every year. I know this was long but i just learded about all that yesterday

Kriegsmen wear gas masks and their uniforms are fully NBC protected due to paranoia thanks to losing an entire command company from a gas attack in their history. Coupled with their world, Krieg, being a blasted radioactive hellscape. Their training from childhood involves such things as engaging in actual warfare against other Kriegers on their homeworld in an eternal war that pauses only for the potentials chosen to join the Imperial Guard being removed from the battle and then it continues. Notice that the video presents the Kriegsman as the scary inhuman thing whereas the daemon-worshiping psychos are the ones acting human? Anyway, e-tools were a popular weapon for trench warfare in WW1. And the blades, including the edges of e-tools, used by the Imperial Guard have mono-molecular edges. So not only can you dig into literally any terrain (whether it's a good idea or not), but you also can hack and stab through anything short of a tank or Space Marine. That machine gunner's wetdream thing is why trenches are supposed to zig-zag. You can only get a couple guys or so in a row before the next zig/zag.
