Based on some movements the 2nd time of hitting the jump scare, I'm guessing the game messed with the player by inverting left & right inputs, but they could also just be walking into the pit
Fun fact: there was an _ACTUAL_ PC port of the game called "super mario bros. special edition" that released around the same time the OG game did (and since i knew that before hopping onto this video, it kinda weirded me out that there was a creepypasta about a game that actually exists)
@@andplayer120 nah there's nothing much to it, it's just kinda off because of the limitations of the PC it was made for back in the day, other than that is just your usual smb clone it was licensed by Nintendo but was developed by Hudson soft
It wasn't actually a port, and it wasn't for PCs as we know them today (IBM PC compatible machines). It was actually a sequel, with entirely different level design and some added monsters and power ups (many of which were inspired by the original arcade Mario Bros.). It was made by Hudson Soft under license from Nintendo, and released for two Japanese 8-bit computer systems of the '80s, the NEC-PC8801 and Sharp X1. It's actually a fascinating little game, with some genuinely interesting design. Problem is, neither the PC8801 nor the X1 could handle the smooth horizontal scrolling of the Famicom/NES, so the game actually used a flip-screen approach, where when you reached the right edge of one screen, the entire screen would be redrawn and you'd wind up on the left edge of the next screen. It lead to enough blind jumps and running face-first into Goombas to make the whole experience unenjoyable. But there are a number of fan games and ROM hacks that effectively recreate the levels of the game but in a more authentic, NES-style Super Mario presentation. Those are pretty fun, IMO.
I like how they said “Innocence doesn’t get you far.” instead of something more generic like “innocence doesn’t get you anywhere.” The nuance is what makes it more scary.
Well sure, but if you’ve ever seen videos about AI learning to play a game, it sorta looks like this, falling into the same trap many times until it tries to do something differently.
Isn't it always how it is with Sonic.Exe like games You fail many times on one trap/puzzle/chase, then eventually figure out what to do and complete the part you were stuck on
Really funny how, despite jumping over the exit pipe, the devs didn’t remove the trigger for moving through it when you die, so your death animation made you win anyway
guys, even platformer tryhards that never played mario before would die a lot in this game. just don't accuse this dude of being bad. the game is actually that hard. controls are very slippery and you almost never can jump on 1 block.
It's not meant to be scary, he's supposed to be this demonic presence "playing" with the protagonist Lucas, as if it's a child's game. Quoting the real Mario would be believable in this context which only serves to make him seem more relentless.
@@joshshrum2764 Mario will be stealing your liver in 3 days! Give me your liver! Here's your liver back. *i'm sorry but your liver does not have a warranty*
I understand why people are saying that the gameplay is terrible because they keep dying. But just note that the game is actually pretty hard. Dying over and over again is expected in games like these.
I am surprised he doesn’t know where to play by running backwards. If it was me I might not know where to run backwards from end to start. I had been playing SMB for long time and I am not pro but I am still good at playing.
MX to toad: Mario: hey toad, remember all those times you said "your princess is in another castle!" Toad: yeah, why? Mario: *becomes MX and picks toad up* MX: I'M ABOUT TO SEND YOU TO ANOTHER CASTLE YOU LITTLE PRICK!
The whole scene where Luigi watches as Mario transforms into a horrifying monster its awesome in the horror way to view things. This things reveals its pale and menacing form, throws and chops Toad, who i assume calling for help,at the pole and then stares back at a scared Luigi, all of this while an ominous and unsettling music makes the scene a little morbid.
I have a theory about this game. Lucas, our protagonist takes the form of Luigi because he is trapped in the game. Hence why it says Lucas on the scoreboard. Lucas is trying to escape from his own haunted copy of the game.
The creator actually confirmed this to be true. MX (the evil Mario-shaped entity born from the code of the corrupted cartridge) gave young Lucas an epileptic seizure while he was playing, resulting in the boy's death. MX then snagged his soul and shoved it into the Luigi body so that he could "play" with Lucas for eternity.
what i like about this game is that it doesn't try so hard to be scary. instead of most creepypasta games it doesn't use an extremely gruesome death screen but just uses the normal death screen but adds just luigis head on a pike. and mario's design is not like most other exe designs instead of the red eyes that are overused, but instead uses a design that is kinda scary when seen chasing luigi.
I remember playing original mario bros like if i was playing super meat boy, going trough the levels running like a fucking maniac, and my dad just went 😐 while watching me play it, i obviously died a lot of times, like you haha.
We need a remake of this thing so we play it on a real NES, or an emulator if that counts; I just imagine giving a Super Mario Bros NES cartridge to my Dad that is secretly hiding this beast in it. But if there’s one thing that I think it kind of ruins the surprise of this being a hunted game is the fact that it explicitly tells you that this game isn’t what it seems, and gives you a taste of the horror imagery to go along with the message, and I think the developers could’ve fixed this issue by doing a simple thing: *Not telling the player that this copy of Super Mario Bros is hunted and not showing the horror imagery during the message at startup.*
Fun fact: a lot of people says this is Luigi, but our protagonist names is actually called Lucas, Lucas actually takes the form of Luigi himself sense he was trap in the game.
@@DoctorNoon2717 what do you mean? I’m just trying to put this fact incase people don’t know this Alrighty? I not doing this for likes or anything like gosh take a chill pill and get a grip
The unsettling thing about the ending is both MX's laugh and the "So Long Lucas" message along with the background music, it seems like MC is mocking him because, even though he managed to escape him, he is still dead, his soul won't leave the game and return to his body just because he managed to run away, it seems like MX makes fun of him because he will still remain inside the game to play with him again, Lucas will probably wander around other levels (if there's even more levels) knowing MX will be lurking aroung looking for him, after all that's MX's world and he has all the advantages
And tbh this is 1 of the few games where the creepypasta antagonist's fake form looks EXACTLY like the character it's idolizing bcs in many other exe games (mostly sonic.exe), the antagonist's fake form has VERY obvious features that make it seem strange but the victim is just oblivious lol
Like it went from lord x ( sonic.exe pc port ) to MX ( mario.exe pc port ) kind of imagine what other .exes get pc port like to me i imagine with kirby.exe or yoshi.exe since both are good
every single exe game has the exact same layout play as character and everything normal, but then suddenly slow music, as everything gets bloody and shitty and gross and then the main character appears with red eyes and then you gotta run away and then you die and then it's like "you smell like poop, [name]" followed by blood to let you know this is the part where you scream in your web cam
yeah but at the same time it has some twists that I really appreciate, like: - Mario's movement and behaviour while chasing resembles the way Mario travels trough levels. - It doesn't relay on jumpscares, it creates terror trough the unsettling tone and music of the game, plus the design of mario it's really creepy. - And the overall spritework is really good as well , not just cheap edited sprites and creepypasta-tier fotorealistic images
I remember one time when they made a long sonic exe fan game that had horror theme to it but it also had some actual boss fights and way to beat the game instead of being a scripted edgy walking simulator with one of the worst understandments of horror i ever seen.
"Innocence doesn't get you far." - I think Mario is giving you a hint to stop being a goody-goody who runs the whole level straight-laced and take the damn pipe shortcut. lol
Fun fact: the reason why he said lucas is because a little boy named Lucas, was playing this version and he woke up in the game as Luigi. And now he is trapped in the game for eternity with mario 85...
I will never understand why people make bait and switch games or videos or whatever you'd call these types of things, and then immediately spoil that it's a horror thing right at the beginning. That defeats the entire point.
