Man, Luigi eats one of the mushroom and just kinda gets flattened like a pancake, but when MARIO eats it he turns into a goddamn tree monster?! That’s not fair!
Imagine Luigi is the one who took too many mushrooms, and now he’s just hallucinating. Mario: “Luigi, the hell is wrong with ya?” Luigi: “GET OUT OF MY SKIIIIIIN!”
You know for a fun creepy pasta video, this actually has some really compelling level design in how it builds tension, and tries to mislead the player into thinking they are unsafe. And them actually being safe so they keep going. Banger.
@@thenextgeneration9030 Yes, horror are mostly going for conditions and environments. JumpScare is a way to drastically change the conditions and environments
@@fulltimecommenter It's the wrong kind of off, though. There's ways to make a game seem wrong, and incorrect physics isn't one. Also, I don't think the dev thought that far ahead, they just added moving and jumping and thought "that's good enough."
So I think the idea behind this is mostly just, “wouldn’t it be creepy if there was a mushroom like the super mushroom that could grow a person’s body? how does that work?” “Super Mario.” Being the title might just be a mario transcends his human limitations via these suspicions fungus. He’s “super” in the sense that he’s above normal people, because he’s a flesh monster idk. I think they could cut the labyrinth, it doesn’t really make sense because Luigi must be compulsively eating these suspicious mushrooms for no benefit and it’s kind of long, if the atmosphere doesn’t do it for you that part seems like a chore. The princess peach segment seems easy and it’s not scary unless you trigger her. The final level is imo not really that scary, the running animation for flesh monster mario has spider energy but aside from that it’s fairly tame. It’s weird, the game has the idea that the super mushroom causes body horror, but they pair it with glitch motifs, which it typical of video game horror hacks for games with incredibly different genres than horror, but it doesn’t necessarily fit together imo.
Also it’s a pretty common idea in Mario horror “what if the mushrooms were the parasitic kind?”. So unless you do something original, either with the idea, or with the gameplay, it really just falls flat
I also believe Mario was burning down the castle in the first level to try and destroy the infestation. Maybe he wasn't infested yet, and was sent to deal with the problem by destroying it. Eventually his dangerous line of work got the better of him.
Wouldn't that theoretically be possible if you just spammed a bunch of sprites centered around Mario (it's not like they're used on anything else), and only updated the pattern table in the 'visible area' and filled the rest with a transparent/solid black tile? I mean, the 'visible area' would be even smaller (64x64 pixels, of which 8px across are used to cover the scrolling seam), but shouldn't that work?
I think what they have is really cool but the game is fairly short with the far too long poison mushroom section. The Mario at the end is a really good creepy moment though I like it a lot.
@@nicorocks-pg1zh I'm talking about stuff like going in the pipes, there's no transition. It just cuts to the next scene. But yeah, the game's a little short. There should be more levels or gimmicks.
This is the most unsettling Mario fan game I've ever witnessed. Utilizing limitations of NES to its advantage and still managing to make it unnerving 😰 Though the the controls / jumping doesn't feel authentic and the end felt too anticlimactic
Even if this is just a gameplay, i really feel unnerved. There's no jumpscare in the game, a close one is at the end whit "Mario" (if only *"that"* was still him). This game is surprisingly good (even if it's short). Prologue. The game at the beggining is the tipical Super mario's first level, but, there's no flag and then some things start to change. You know something weird is happening, and you recive some warnings. "Don't take to many". You are in a claustrophobic place with a dark and slight vision, you need to escape from that place while you are avoiding to eat those weird mushrooms or you'll know the consequences. The background music here is really dismal. "Jump quietly *IT's* blind". Now, you're in a high place with in a dark background and the situation is kinda the same, you need to escape from that place but, you start notice that there's no any sound... until you start hearing your jumps... you aren't alone. -L̷u̴i̶g̸i̶- Sorry, i know i cutting this but, the only thing i have to say, is that the previous levels works for this moment.
7:26 when you reach the place of Bowser there is no boss but obviously Mario... when you reach where Mario is he transforms into an giant tree monster or idk but if you try to escape you dont see the exit that means [THERE IS NO ESCAPE]
I dont get why Mario burned down a castle. If mushrooms are so deadly and scary, how did they make Mario evil instead of outright transforming him? If they do turn people evil, why?? Why is it ok to eat 1, but 2 is just instant death??? This entire game is just "oooh something evil happened and Mario is the antagonist" for the sake of of it, no thought behind it
I personally interpreted it as like, a human can survive eating one mushroom but more can overwhelm their body? And Mario waits to become a monster... I dunno. It's not like that hasn't happened before where the main villain maintains a relatively normal form until the very end where they mutate into a giant abomination, it's not really out of place here.
@@GarryDumblowski It also could just an extremely intelligent fungus, which is able to maintain a host's normal form for extended periods, and than shows itself when it’s time to hunt.
I love the use of the quiet jump, normally it would be extremely quiet and unnerving, so loud jumping would be optimal to bring whimsy to the atmosphere, atleast to the slightest. But here, you're forced to stay in silence which is horrifying.
So *this* was what Captain Lou Albano was warning us about when he said doing drugs would make us go to the eternally hot place before we game over’d, if you catch my drift. 😆
honestly thought that the chase scene at the end would be another Lucas like had Vinny actually started running till i realized it was a scripted death that you can't run away from, had it been what i thought Vinny would decide to retry again and again losing his sanity
Ok but like, the one where you have to “jump silently” is creepy as hell. No indication besides your jump sound and the sudden low boops and bits and before you can even make out what just spotted you ; level restarts
"Shhhhh- Fuck!" Have you heard the Donkey Kong one they did on Sleepycast? The episode is "Sleepypasta", I think it's season 2 episode 17. One of my absolute favorite stories I've heard.
I find it weird how no one seems to be mentioning Mario.EXE. Remember that stupidly gory and overly edgy game? This though, this is a good take on that.
