An absolutely BEAUTIFUL adaptation of Ribbon Road! I agree with the comments down below that say this is better than Mario Kart 8. THIS is how you take a retro course and bring it back! THIS is treating the old games with respect! It maintains the aesthetic and functionality of the course. It keeps the same shortcuts, backgrounds, and general appearance, but updates it to look crisp and run in on the DS engine, which plays in a way that newer players of the franchise can enjoy. My favorite detail is the bumps in the ribboned road, which in this adaptation seem so perfectly subtle and doesn't take up a majority of the track like it does in 8. The bumps are nothing functional, but they remind you that you're playing a more polished version of an already fantastic track. Just absolutely brilliant. Couldn't give this more praise.
YES! THIS is Ribbon Road! Not whatever that was in MK8.... The textures, the background, the music... it's all perfect. Feels like it was in MKDS to begin with! And Toadette with the Biddybuggy is a nice touch as well. I used to do the shortcut at 1:48 every time XD
If Nintendo makes 56+ Mario Kart games and names all of the rest after when in the series they were released (Mario Kart 9, 10, etc.), we could eventually get 2 Mario Kart 64's
i've absolutely been thinking of doing cheese land too! ribbon road and cheese land have always been inseparable to me i'm not really sure how to ideally pull off cheese land in 3D though; ribbon road's layout lent itself pretty well to just leaving it almost completely flat like the GBA tracks in vanilla MKDS, but on cheese land i think it feels a bit more out of place that way?
