The villagers did take up only 1 slot in the original Wii U version. They were definitely only split to make the roster UI look more even on the switch version (making all the guest characters a separate row).

Peachette is such a big L that it actively makes the rest of the wave feel worse which is insane because the other 3 characters are basically the best picks they could’ve had

Petey, Kamek and Pauline have given me a trio of alts I don’t think I could’ve had from the base 8 roster.

My thoughts on the 3rd party characters (Splatoon, Animal Crossing and Zelda) are relatively positive since I really love the franchises they are from but at the time when we didn't know we were getting new characters from the DLC, It felt in a way they took a slot from staple icons like Diddy Kong and Birdo. Now that they are in I don't mind as much. Really good video! 👍

Peachette was literally the only character from Tour that I would have been upset seeing. Everybody else I would've been perfectly fine with; I would have even been down with Captain Toad returning since he at least has more character.

3 weeks and I’m still proud of how Mario Kart 8 Deluxe roster has evolved. Things that got my attention: -Kamek in the console Mario Kart game -The fact that my predictions are correct all along. Pauline, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Kamek, & Petey Piranha. -The unexpected choose Wiggler caught me by surprise. -Pauline is another female heavy. -I expect the 2 final characters. But 4?! That’s an epic plot twist right there! -The entire Mario Kart Wii characters are back together again. P.S., Kamek is actually a medium-weight. Not a lightweight.

I'm personally happy with Peachette's design as I find her adorable, however she's definitely on a similar level of disappointment as Metal Mario, tanooki Mario, gold Mario, and cat Peach. Like ya they're preexisting power ups, but do we need power ups playable. And ya Peachette technically is comparable to Shadow mario but like I don't want Shadow mario in my rosters. However, there will never be a defense for Pink Gold Peach... like there's not even a change with the model, and she didn't exist prior nor has she gone on to be important to the series. Peachette is cute, I'm happy she's here, but literally any other character should've been here... like Dixie

the Villager girl and boy used to be on the same spot when they first released on the Wii U but got seperated in Deluxe for some reason which might be why Inkling girl and boy got the same treatment I'm hoping the Villagers and Inklings gets put together with the 2 extra characters coming (assuming there's not more than 4 or they don't have different stats which I'm not sure if they do or not, due to me not using them much)

people are popping off about lakitu being in MK7 when theres nobody mentioning the fact that koopalings are playable in smash and olympic games

I really enjoyed your opinions on these characters but I really can't help pointing out some mistakes with the info you presented. Please don't take this as unneccesary criticism, I did enjoy the video but I could have loved it even more, I encourage you to do a bit more research next time! - This one you already addressed in your pinned comment but yeah, Lakitu debuted in MK7. - This may just be an omission, but you talk about Baby Rosalina as if she's the frist baby character who hadn't ever appeared before their MK debut, even though Baby Daisy also debuted in MKWii without having appeared in any other game thus far. - Link's BOTW skin wasn't added with the original MK8 DLC, but a few months after the release of MK8DX on the Switch. BOTW didn't even exist yet when the first DLC even came out. - The Villagers did actually share one spot in the character selection screen in the MK8 DLC. It is only in MK8DX where they separated them into different characters. - This may be a nitpick because I think I know what you meant, but the Koopalings existed before Bowser Jr., so he's not "the original Koopaling" as you call him. - The BCP will have lasted for two years when it ends, not one, which means that Wave 4 came one year after the DLC started, not half a year later. - Kamek is a medium-weight, not a light-weight. - No ads ever said that 5 more characters were coming after Birdo, there was never a number specified anywhere.

Dude I love this channel sm, you deserve more subs! Also I am really sad that Peachette made it in instead of a character like Nabbit or Chargin' Chuck or Bomb Boo (most deserving of an apperance).

I don't think I have ever seen that much pure unadulterated hatred towards Inklings before lmao. I can't help but at least agree somewhat, there are plenty of other named characters they could have pulled from the series. The odd thing is the Inklings you play as in game do have a canonical name (or at least title), but they didn't use them. Despite me being a Splatoon fan, I'm glad we can both at least we can all agree Wiggler is the GOAT.

I do like having the Koopalings. They’re all distinct enough and were the only unique things about Mario Kart 8’s original roster.

I can't wait to play as Diddy Kong, but yeah he should've been in the roster from the very beginning.

So much Splatoon disrespect, lol. Its the most (and in many ways, only) successful new IP Nintendo has put out for a good while. Or does 3 games and DLC not qualify it as a success? Not your cup of tea, sure. I get that. Personally while I do enjoy the world and ideas the game puts forth and I love the painting aspect, I can't really get in to the gameplay enough to play it more than occasionally. Definitely not what I'd personally consider a favorite series by any means. But I can't question its success. Plus fun fact, in the very earliest conceptualization for the series it was originally thought up as a Mario spinoff. The squid inking came from Bloopers, IIRC. So there's a little extra tie to the Mario series that makes adding them a little more interesting, though granted not enough people probably know that tie. I still think its kinda neat though. Always happy to see a Wiggler fan though. I never got to even play as Wiggler since I never play handheld MK titles, and I was pretty sad I probably wouldn't get another chance. So my hype was huge when they announced Wiggler for the booster pass. Heck, the pack 5 trio was pretty much my 3 most wanted characters period.

Link's Breath of the Wild costume was not in the Wii U version, or the base version of the Switch one, he was added as free DLC about 6 months after the release of 8 Deluxe The Villagers were actually costumes of each other in the Wii U version, it was the Switch rerelease who separated them both into their own slots, which was pretty lame The multiple shy guy and Yoshi costumes were added about 3 months or so before the Zelda pack released, they were a bonus for preordering/buying both the Zelda and Animal Crossing packs on the Wii U

I would’ve preferred Honey Queen instead of Wiggler and Dixie instead of Peachette. Wave 6 is still my favorite though because they added my favorites Pauline and Diddy. 💖

Apparently, the reason why Pink Gold Peach exists is because the director wanted another female heavy weight. So he asked the female devs on any suggestions, and they decided on creating Pink Gold Peach.

Personally, I would’ve taken Captain Toad over Peachette. At least technically CT is a different toad than the main one we know and love.

Other Nintendo characters are not exactly “Third Party”

One issue I have is the repeated assertion that characters like the Koopalings "took up spots" which is a pretty dumb claim because it's literally up to Nintendo how many characters are included, adding the Koopalings did not "take away" spots for other characters, if a character wasn't in the base game it's because Nintendo decided it not because Pink Gold Peach or Tanooki Mario were there

Why are you calling Nintendo’s own characters 3rd Party? You know 3rd Party only applies if the company adds a character from a game they didn’t make to their own game, right? Link, Villagers, Isabelle, and the Inklings are still 1st Party characters despite not being Mario characters.

What is your problem with the game having more characters? You seem offended that more characters are getting added, that arent the ones you want. You’re like a smash fan while the DLC was coming out. I’m not trying to say that you aren’t allowed to not like something, I’m just confused as to why you seem to hate the fact that the game is getting more characters. Also, to imply that Splatoon isn’t a real game goes to show that you know so little about it that you have no right to even talk about it as a game.

I like the Koopalings (except Wendy). But if i were Nintendo. I would replace the Koopalings in the Wii U, I would replace them with: Diddy Kong Funky Kong Petey Piranha Bowser Jr. (+Koopalings as alts like in Smash, except Wendy, because fuck that character) King Boo Dry Bones Kamek As for Tanooki Mario and Cat Peach, I would replace them with Dixie Kong and Chargin Chuck(even though I hated the character in Tour)
