Graphic design choices aside... I think MP8 is a pretty fine game on its own. It certainly has a lot of charm that make it stand out from the rest of the series. Even though it didn't aged very well graphics-wise.
I think if I were tired of classic Mario Party, I would have appreciated this game more, especially those last two boards. But I think when I played it (at launch) I hadn't played the series since the N64, so I just wanted that classic formula. I still don't ever remember having a problem with motion controls, it was in that window where the whole concept felt fresh still. Now that I've been playing Superstars and getting my fill of the classics, I should give MP8 another shot. Very nice video!
Thank you! Since this was my first Mario Party, this game established the core idea of Mario Party to me. Mario Party 8 still feels much closer to the traditional formula than 9 and 10, and had the DK board which plays like any standard Mario Party board. Since it came out after so many games that were all similar, I think what it has that's unique to it is more special.
How are there NO comments on this? I just recently played through this game for the first time and I love it! It's a simultaneously unique and charming game. It's definitely My favorite alongside Mario Party 7. Also not to mention the music is friccin great.
When I was gathering music for the video I definitely got distracted listening to some of the tracks for this game. The Mario Party Superstars versions of the two tracks that came over don't sound as punchy or as good imo.
@@ZillennialRosa I know right? If they HAD to being back two minigames they should've done "Rotation Station" and "Snow Way Out". Not only are these minigames better, the songs in these are bangers so there's no way they could've ruined it with a bad remix
This is a really high quality video, especially given how few views it has. Really nice highlight on MP8! I've always thought it was one of the better in the series. I'm also curious why you've said what you did about 9 if you've seemingly never played it, I think it's a fair bit better than 10, despite the car. The boards are more well designed. But just a small thought haha, great vid!
Thank you. I should have specified that I did play 9 at a friend's place once. I just didn't play a ton of it and never owned it myself. I watched some footage of the game being played to get a refresher on the mechanics, but didn't spend too much time on it since the focus of this video is on MP8. That brief section of the video was more about the general direction of 9, since most of the things that people disliked about 10 started with 9.
This was my first Mario Party, and I have nostalgia for it. Now that I’ve played all of them at least once with friends, I think 8 is at best a solid game. If I put the games in a tier list, this would hit the top of B tier for me
8 was my first ever Mario Party, and it might be because it's the only one I've consistently played with friends, but it's by far my favourite. Growing up with the Wii era kinda gives you a more open-minded perspective on motion controls, even a tolerance for the waggliest ones, and the variety in this game's board gimmicks is what pushes it to the top for me.
I LOVE MARIO PARTY 8 SO MUCH DUDE. And Dry Bones is my favorite character too, so ngl, we should be friends. Seriously though, I enjoyed the video. Thanks for showing some love for this underrated game.
this used to be me and my best friends favorite game, we played so much when we were younger. our favorite was def boo's haunted hideaway... lol. we loved how it changed every time
Ok but Mario Party DS is still the best one 💅 Also the Game Grumps playthrough of this game (both of them) had some of the most hilarious moments on their channel. This game def holds a place in my heart.
Marioparty 8 was my first Marioparty I ever played playing it as far I can remember even in 2009/2010 when I was 4/5 respectively. So yeah a Bias. Sadly, I was never able to play the GCN-Marioparties and Marioparty 3.
Ehhh, C Tier is where it belongs imo. It def deserves the middling and "meh" attitude from most people. It has ok minigames but the boards just don't do anything for me, as well as I remember it not having enough of the dickery that past games were infamous for.
23:30 if i remember correctly the dk space gives you a star or a bowser candy but i could be wrong And watching your story mode comments made me weird for consumating my childhood on this,mp 9 island tour e star rush 99% of the time single player,i even completed the story mode of 8 two times to unlock both calamako and martelkoopa
I mean, I also played a lot of these single player modes for games that are more known for multiplayer. MP8 was literally the first Mario Game I ever played.
I guess Mario Party 8 can be a lot of fun when playing it with friends. But I have to play all the Mario Parties by myself most of the time. And I live in Germany and play the PAL version of Mario Party 8 which is apparently slower. So the game is especially long and a bit boring to me, even though the characters run faster from space to space in this game.
Ah, yeah. When playing by myself to get footage, I definitely had less fun than when I play with a group of friends. These games aren't meant for that. I also hadn't even considered how 50hz slows the game down and how it was still an issue even in 2007. Definitely play a 60hz rom if you can
I’m gonna be honest, I picked up Mario party 6 a month ago. Now at that point, the only Mario parties I’ve played were 9, DS, and Super Mario party. I absolutely LOVED 6. I picked up 8 a few days ago, and I tried it. It’s just not as good and I definitely felt a little bored at times. Like where were the items for putting down character spaces? Every turn is just a red or blue space, and the lucky space just ruins it imo. 8 is fine I guess, but I just find that 6 was way more fun to play.
