Yeah no one should be taking his advice on these, if you burn more than one mushroom on a corner cut you're doing it wrong. He also shows a lot of cuts that shouldn't actually be cut.
It's not hard to cut corners when you spam mushrooms like that. Would be better if you showed corners you can cut using only 1 mushroom rather than spamming them.
buddytime90 Mount Wario is the best in MK8 but I sure wish they wouldn't have gone away from the slopes in the middle section. A damn in the middle of a ski slope? Huh? The entire thing should have been one long downhill ski course with every slope event; downhill, slalom, moguls, aireals, ski-cross, half-pipe...
There is one more shortcut in Grumble Volcano. The staff ghost takes it in time trials. At the end of the race where they have the two paths to take, there is a shortcut on the right path. This shortcut is only available for the third lap though. On the third lap, if you take the right path, there is a small ramp in the off-road area to the right. You can't use it the other two laps because a huge question mark block is the front of it. You will need a mushroom to do it.
You forgot literally the most important shortcut of 200cc: gliding through the last turn of Dolphin Shoals. If you gain enough speed or use a Mushroom after beginning that glide that takes you over the water, and pull up the entire time, you can glide over the entire turn. This one doesn't even require a mushroom if you are fast enough and can easily win you an entire race at the last second.

Kaui M. Nah it's fine. I've played a decent amount of games on the other consoles. I own all the major consoles for this gen. When it comes to pure graphical performance, there are other games that do a much better job of course. (I was actually stunned at how good Battlefront EA and Lego Star Wars looked on PS4) But in terms of a cartoony aesthetic, I can't think of many other games that look as good as MK8. Though Pikmin 3 is also absolutely gorgeous as well, but it's going for a different style I feel.
So, half of these were not necessary because they were just cutting across the non-road portions. That said, this was a great look at a beautiful game. The graphics are glorious, the music is amazing, and the new Rainbow Road... Those shortcuts made me feel all nostalgic. :,)
Redsoxking I'm in Norway (Europe). I should get it today. I pre-ordered it so I would get it in the mail, and the game comes out today in Norway, too. I'm pretty upset, but let's just hope I get it tomorrow
For Mario Kart Stadium, at the second corner, a mushroom is not needed. As you approach this corner, start drifiting and try to aim in between the pipe and the wall. Just before you go off-road, release your drift (Doesn't matter the sparks), and if the boost from the drift stops while off-road, try jumping a little to get back on road. It takes some practice to master, but the other trick I found to avoid using mushrooms at shortcuts. So we all know that ramp at the beginning of the anti-gravity section, but with enough practice, using a mushroom will almost never be necessary. So maybe like 1.5 seconds after reaching the belt that activates ant-gravity, begin drifting. By the way, a vehicle with good drifting may be best for this one. Keep drifting until you're nearly to the right of the ramp, but able to get onto the ramp. So when you're confident that you can get onto the ramp, stop drifting and go onto the ramp. This requires perfect timing, otherwise you won't maintain a good speed while going to the ramp, and thus unable to do a trick off of it. This is very difficult and I haven't mastered it yet. But if you're able to perform those two successfully using no mushrooms, you can use a mushroom each lap at the last corner of the track using one and staying to the left of all the pipes while drifting.
Honestly, some of these shortcuts are just alternate routes, like in Dolphin Shoals. And, let's be honest, most of these are just corner cuts or easy shortcuts. Not to bash on the video or anything, but I'm sure that most people could figure these shortcuts out for themselves. But you did teach me about a few cool glider spots and whatnot, so thanks for that, André.
You gotta thank Lakitu (and the devs) for the lack of interesting shortcuts. You can't even do the Yoshi's Valley hairpin gap jump anymore, much less the Grumble Volcano rock-hop double ultra (though I'm glad they got rid of the checkpoint glitch...).
Of course they got rid of the checkpoint glitch. That's first grade. Though, even if Lakitu makes shortcuts hard in this game, at least they put in some intentional shortcuts.
cwjakesteel (sorry for the long response :P) I honestly don't know why Nintendo have shortcuts like those. Either make them faster or remove them, or else it just off-puts players. Really misleading, I have no idea why Nintendo need them in :/
If I'm to be honest, this actually looks like the best Mario Kart yet! The tracks look awesome, I'm loving the new roster and those graphics... man they're good!

You forget one. In the 3rd lap of Grumble Volcano in the split part, (also know as the last turns) in the right part, there is a rock who is comming down in the final lap. If you use a Mushroom you can cut of the corner by using a Mushroom.
You missed a shortcut on Grumble Volcano! It's only available once a particular bit of scenery has fallen (So third lap) It's near the end, and on the lower, right track during the split. When the mountain on the right falls, you can boost-jump over the lava. hard to explain without pictures, but you should be able to find it. Good luck and happy karting!

That one that can only be done on the 3rd lap as it revelas itself after a huge ass block sinks in to the lava, Take the right road that splits in two before the finish line and before (you jump) and the two paths join there will be a ramp on the right side you can access with a mushroom

Hey I didn't want to dig through all of the comments and I looked pretty far down and didn't see anything so I hope it's not a repeat! On the last lap of Grumble Volcano, a new shortcut is revealed by a large rock sinking into the lava. It allows you to go off a little cliff onto a separate piece of road into the finish line! :) It's really cool and I only know of it because people have used it online! (again sorry if this is a repeat)
You missed at least two shortcuts. 1. 3.58 - After that shortcut you can hold to left side as much as possible and jump straight to water. It's tricky to do properly but it's faster. 2. 8.50 - After that shortcut you can hold to right side and drift on ice bricks to avoid hole in ice
Yusei255 Digital Foundry is correct. It seems that the game compiles something every 64th frame so that it doubles the last frame producing what is rounded to 59 frames per second, It seems a particular issue when AI is present. Most people shouldn't notice it as it isn't affecting gameplay, but if some pay attention, ythey can notice it. Particularly, PC gamers as they almost always play at 60 fps. The frame drop is practically invisible on RU-vid due to compression and being 30fps. The 4 player splitscreen is done really interestingly as while it is being played in 30 fps, the image on your tv is 60 fps. The top half of the screen and the bottom half of the screen alternate frames.
Yusei255 No that is not the case, Digital Foundry have some special equipment that shows allow them to see the frame rate. Gamexplain do not have this equipment and wouldn't know. The problem is that DF are making a big deal about it say how they could notice 1 frame drop, but previously EuroGamer (who are also Digital Foundry) were stating that MK8 was 1080p 60fps but now say that it's 720p and 59fps. That's why they are full of shit because they say that they can notice that framedrop yet contradicting themselves with that Eurogamer article.
i actually discovered something that nobody's talked about, so while i'm not sure it's new, i haven't seen anything about it i've noticed that if you can turn for long enough, you can get miniturbos without drifting. i can't find a use for it, or even many places to pull it off, but it's there if you want to see it, go on rainbow road and don't drift on the first big turn. you'll get a miniturbo just from regular turning that activates when the turn stops if nobody can explain this, could you take a look at it for yourself? it's not that hard to pull off, but there are very few places where you could
I knew most of these, already. There were shortcuts, I didn't know about :) With that said, I'll never complain about constantly getting mushrooms, ever again xD
hey game explain you should make a video on things you can drive through with your kart! Theres actually a lot of things... tires, cones, finish line signs, the ferris wheel... see if you can find them all!
***** You missed one shortcut in Grumble Volcano. At the last split path, going to the right on the last lap, you'll see a ledge sticking far out. Use a mushroom to go over it. You can also see this on the map itself. Plus there's tire tracks on it too. In 3DS DK Jungle, you could have kept the glider open by tricking on the Boost Pads.

Theres another mushroom jump in Grumble Volcano. Its on the last corner if you take the right path in the split on the last lap after the giant rock has fallen revealing it. You also missed an insane mushroom jump the staff ghost makes on new Rainbow Road.
you forgot about 3 shortcuts, theres a hidden boost range in grumble volcano, there's another grass shortcut in Yoshi valley and in sunshine airport you can boost through the grass next to the broken down airplane.
You missed one at grumble volcano. On th 2nd and 3rd lap near the finish line on the right side should have a little hill where you can do a trick that requires a mushroom.

mario kart shortcuts. evolving from cool alternate paths (like in koopa troopa beach and yoshi circuit) to using mushshrooms over grass and a few generic gliding spots. hurray.
None of those really looked like shortcuts, honestly. I think Nintendo designed new tracks and redesigned old tracks to have no true shortcuts as means of getting players to actually race on the course rather than look around for shortcuts or glitches to exploit. Thank god they fixed that Grumble Volcano glitch. Well done, Nintendo.
Yoshi Valley has a better cut. You cut instead of using the jump pad cut left and literally drive onto the grass as you shroom. If done correctly you will reach just in front of the start/finish line.
Dämonplay The DLC is just going to the Japanese version as of now, and Redsoxking , it's free DLC anyway... if they make new courses, cars, characters; then those would cost and I don't think they would be exclusive to a region.
You missed the two main ones on grumble volcano and you missed the biggest one on Mario Circuit. On Mario Circuit, after you take the shortcut to the right to access the Glide Boost, you can swerve to the left and land on the row of boxes. This then lets you cut the corner completely. This will save several seconds and can be used for that excellent "where the fuck did he come from?!?!?" last second victory
U missed a shortcut on grumble volcano, in the 3rd lap towards the end when u go to the right there's a jump that's gets u closer to the finish if u land it properly
On the final corner of the last lap of Grumble Volcano, there is a shortcut where you make a jump and land on the track. Look backwards during the part where you are crossing the line to see the extra bit of road. Hope you guys didn't know that one :p
I am surprised you did not add the shortcut on grumble volcano that appears right at the final lap when you choose the right path that doesn't lead to the flight panel which leads to a offroad jump that is normally blocked by what looks like a small mountain, and not showing how you can get up on the wooden platforms in "dry bowsers mouth" from the antigravity bone path in the dry bones dunes (I can't recall the name) by veering off to the right to shoot even higher than normal to just glide onto it.
On the wii version, there was this shortcut on grumble volcano, which allowed you to complete the track in less than a minute, by jumping out if the map on a rock or something. Does that still work on this version?
Not meaning to sound offensive, but this shortcut guide is really mediocre. A lot of "shortcuts" shown in the video are long cuts, and most of the conner cuts were not taken well. But then again, at the time this video was made, the game was brand new, so i shouldnt complain too much, but you guys should make an updated version, along with the new shortcuts found.
