For those wondering, the difference is in sharper edges, darker blacks, more vivid colors, and crisper shadows. Otherwise, it's the exact same. It's honestly really hard to tell the difference. No point in buying the deluxe for the graphics aspect of it unless you really believe it will make a difference.

i love ninetndo but you don't even know there will be a drop because the drop would be 60 to 56 frames and even your eyes can't see that because the framerate is almost the same and to low for a difference.

It's actually drops to 59. The other graphical enhancement is Deluxe runs at 1080p while docked. The Wii U version was either 720p or 900p.

RU-vid kills most of the extra detail. I can assure you that if you that on an actual TV the difference will be huge. The huge blocky aliasing looked quite awful on my TV on Wii U. The difference will be even more obvious if you play two or four player split screen.

I frequently switched between gaming in 1080p on PS4 and on Wii U at 720p, the difference was blindingly obvious. I have also ran Mario Kart 8 on Cemu on PC at various resolutions, so I already know for a fact the difference is clear to see.

It doesn't run the same. The Wii U version runs at native 720p with 1 dropped frame every few seconds, while the Switch version runs at native 1080p with no drops at all.

Yes it was powerful. But the reason it failed was because of crappy advertising and a lackluster game library (Along with probably a lot more reasons i'm missing). It wasn't being underrated, it deserved it. Seemed as if Nintendo didn't have faith to begin with. Compare Switch's advertising to Wii U though. Wowie.

WiiU wasn't that powerful. It had more power than the 360 or the ps3, but not by much, and it wasn't impressive seeing as how it came out many years. But I guess if you compare it to the Wii before it, then sure..

While graphics are the same (almost no changes), the resolution is better on Nintendo Switch. It runs at 1080p docked and 720p on the go, while the Wii U version runs at 720p on TV and at 480p on the gamepad.

Notice the anti-aliasing on the polygon edges and you'll see the difference. Also resolution makes things crispier.

While that's all well and good, this is pretty much the exact same game as the Wii U version. While I'll still buy it since I'm a Nintendo fanboy. I'd say it should be worth $40, with $50 maybe pushing it a bit, but not $60.

That Random Guyーさん I don't regret getting a Wii U at all because I really enjoy the games on it. I got it mostly for Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros, which those games I highly enjoy. Then we got Splatoon which is easily one of my all time favorite games and Super Mario Maker.

c4vacuum it's because the switch port is higher resolution. While the wii u was native 720p.720p color is not that great in general

Also got to remember were seeing it though RU-vid. though go to 1:15 and keep repeating you will notice that the light glare on the roof tops has been changed. also, notice when changing from wiiu to switch one of the "?" blocks becomes a double "?" block. that's all the change I need :P

GTA 5 is trying to be photorealistic and is a large open world game, the kinds of games that will ALWAYS have scope for making them look better. Mario Kart 8 is a cartoony type kart game that already looked great. There is literally nothing they could have changed that would look obviously better other than what they have. The resolution and anti-aliasing were its only weak points graphically.

JMPhase it actually was genuinely really annoying If you noticed it because every second there would be a 1 frame pause since it would reuse a frame to make 59fps into 60. I'm glad it got fixed in the switch version :)

So many people missing the point - the fact that the graphics are equal or improved over the Wii U is *an incredible technical achievement by Nintendo,* because they are accomplishing that on a little mobile chipset you can carry around with you! If Microsoft could run Halo 5 Guardians in perfect quality on a handheld device, wouldn't you *appreciate* that amazing leap in technology? Nintendo have done the *near-impossible,* they have recreated AAA console gaming on a mobile platform without sacrificing too much for home use as this video demonstrates. Whether you want to buy a Switch or not, *the accomplishment stands.*

That is a mathematical fact, the Vita's GPU is barely more capable than the 3DS, the handheld by the way which defeated it comprehensively, driving it into irrelevance and niche. There is a world of difference between the Switch and the Vita, just look at the TFLOPS of the GPUs involved.

Not as huge as you might think; Black Ops 2 and Mass Effect 3 on the Wii U really looked as good as their counterparts on other consoles. The Switch runs Lego City Undercover (which maxes out any console's GPU due to its custom engine) at nearly the level of the PS4. It is as close as you can possibly get right now with a mobile chipset. The gap in games experience has disappeared; the Switch is a handheld AAA machine, and can run the same games the home consoles can, just with some optimisation and slightly reduced effects. If you want max effects, tbh you want a gaming PC, the Xbone and PS4 are primitive by comparison and the Scorp/PS4 pro aren't much better.

it is so hard to notice XD Graphically wise, resolution seems to be slightly larger on Switch, or Nintendo employed an anti-aliasing algorithm Either some of the models changed or they're using different tires. Honestly, the only thing Switch has going for it is that the game looks sharper. Not gonna see a gigantic overhaul of the whole graphical engine because the game already looked damn fine on the Wii U. Will still get it, I never got the Wii u version, so bonus for guys like me that will get the game with all the original DLC included as well as overhauled Battle Mode.

That's exactly it though, the game DID look fine. There is literally nothing they COULD do to improve it other than anti-aliasing and resolution. The latter of which will be extremely obvious when playing four player split screen on a TV compared to Wii U.

I don't see why so many people are complaining. I'd love it if EVERY big Wii U game was ported for the switch, even if they added nothing because I, like many others, don't own a Wii U. Nintendo has sold so many switch consoles, there are many new people who never even owned a Nintendo console, so porting this game as well as other popular games with a little bit of extra content and enhanced graphics (not that important) and the added portability, would be totally worth $50.

I own a Wii U and am an avid MK8 gamer, I don't own the Switch yet, but I think MK8 is one of the best racing games ever and I don't mind it being "only" a Deluxe version on the Switch, as it seems to bring a whole new tactic with it and is portable. If they make deluxe versions of Mario Maker (iceflower this time :))) ) and Smash Bros. I'd like it.

2items three charges for boost and changing characters/kart loadout between games and portable is enough to buy again for me. new meta and new battle mode. braking in 200cc. its got 1080p res and inklings. the connection with nintendos new service will be improved too so less lag online. mk8 online on the go with wireless hotspot from your cell phone with voice chat. plus i get to unlock everything and get all the gold medals again

@@durkadur27 I like that indrift bikes due to the changes now have a chance on the DLC stages, whereas Wii U Mario Kart was too unbalanced. Unfortunately, based on past experience, Nintendo has only had one Mario Kart game on each console generation. So this game, which isn't a brand-new Mario Kart and which looks the same as the Wii U version, will be the first and the last Mario Kart on Switch.

Whoever says that there are no differences clearly don't know what they are talking about. The change of FPS from switch to wii u is really noticeable. I also notice better lighting dynamics, better shaders, less edges, and even more details in the textures. And it all came from a youtube video which downgrades the screen resolution of the video. What did y'all think? That mario kart oin the switch would look like gta 5 ? Put in on a PC and there wouldn't be much difference.

Wavin' Racer all I could really tell was that the switch has a sharper image, and I had to pause to really see that. I can tell fps differences better when I am actually playing the game. Overall, not a huge difference, but Microsoft and Sony didn't see huge gains between gen 7 and 8 consoles either. Even PC graphics don't get noticably better until you get to the higher settings. Even still, the high end PC graphics aren't as drastically better as they were in previous console generations. This isn't a bad thing though, graphics are hitting a point of diminishing returns. This means even lower end hardware will be pumping out acceptable graphics.

Well, the difference is small in the youtube video because of the compression. But side by side on the same type of screen, it is like a day/night difference. When you played booth versions, even without a side by side comparison, it should be very clear by the first look at the gameplay.

it's hard to see in video form but the main differences are anti aliasing, higher resolution and richer colors. The shadows seem to be improved as well. Also the game runs at 60 fps now rather than 59 fps from the wii u version. The game looks and performs better on the switch. So clean. It's easier to see in person. I could be missing other graphical changes, but those are the ones at on the top of my head. Hope this helps.

they both pretty much look the same but if you hook the WII U up to a 4k tv like I did it won't matter anyway you'll get every bit of color and sharpness and more it will look just as good or better than the switch. Even without 4k tho they both pretty much look the same.

I can assure you that the difference between 720p (WiiU) and Switch (1080p) will be EXTREMELY obvious actually playing on the TV without RU-vid compression. One of the things that put me off MK8 was just how pixelated it looked due to being 720p. Sure it didn't spoil the game, but it certainly made the graphics seem a lot worse than they really are due to the aliasing. Heck, try playing it on Switch portable then on WiiU on the TV - the Switch will look better due to the smaller screen and the game rendering the same resolution as the screen itself.

lol Dude the WII U is the first system by Nintendo to support 1080p HD. The games will look the same regardless. I hooked my WII U up to my 4k tv and I played supersmash bros Mario Kart8, Mario Party 10 and they all looked beautiful the colors really pop they all look vibrant and it plays pretty smooth. The Switch will not look any better,as a matter of fact The WII U looked noticeably better on my TV than it did in this video, and thats saying something considering it looked pretty good in this video too. The only reason people are saying Switch looks better is because its the newest console out. People did the same thing with the Xbox One & Xbox One Slim.

I find it absolutely baffling that you are bragging about running a 720p game on a 2160p TV screen and it "looking great". I think you may need glasses. I DO wear glasses and can still see a huge difference between 720p, 1080p and 2160p, especially for gaming. I have also seen Mario Kart 8 at all those resolutions thanks to Cemu. Just playing portable at 720p will look much better than Wii U, because its a tiny screen so the size of the pixels hides the aliasing. Upscaling 720p to 2160p just makes the game look blurrier but does not reduce the aliasing at all.

I have played the game and the Switch does look a little more crisp than the Wii u. You'd have to play the game in order to notice any difference. I especially noticed a difference when my player Bowser got inked, the glistening effect of the ink on Bowser looked much cleaner and crisp on the Switch than the Wii u.

I somewhat agree, but the I feel it's fairly justified experience will way better on the switch, given the great portability and the chance for local multiplayer. While the gameplay or visuals may not innovate too much, the way it can be played makes up for that. I mean mario kart doesn't strike me as the most amazing game from the start, but the chance to play 2-4 player with friends anywhere makes me think it's justified

Probably more so at 4K as it has to upscale both to 2160p and 4K TVs have much better contrast ratios than many older 1080p TVs so will show up the flaws more clearly! The higher the resolution you start with, the better the end result.

For people bashing the Switch version for not looking different despite 1080p, what the hell do you do to improve Mario Kart? Faster karts? lol Give Mario rinkles? Give Yoshi scales? What the hell are they suppose to do, they gave us true 1080p, better anti aliasing, and shadow quality and full 60fps compared to the Wii U at 59fps so what more could they have done, and on top of that we have all those improvements in a little device that we can take on the go.

But ask yourself this, even if the graphics were slightly enhanced and mario looked a little better, would it really be worth buying just for that tiny bit? I don't think so, the whole point of mario kart 8 going on the switch is the portability factor. The hardware! It wasn't about graphics, it isn't a remaster its the same game with portability. The Wii U owners like me, will buy it a bit later. MK8 lives of its online, offline is nice for casuals, families, so there may be no need for ppl who play causually to buy it again. But for those who love multiplayer there is a new tactic involved using 2 items and some other changes like battlemode. The slightly upgraded graphics are a nice extra bonus. I personally dislike the DLC tracks thus will be playing only the original ones.

I would imagine 4 player split screen would look mighty impressive in 4K but there is never more than two people around to play it at home. So the Switch makes so much sense to take it to other places to play in groups. Its unlikely I will play online that much either, I just don't find it fun playing with people I can't see. Iit feels almost like playing with AI if you aren't interacting with those people, seeing their reactions to what is going on, etc.

The 59 fps on the wii u version drove me nuts. That little stutter every second couldn't be ignored. Glad to see it a rock solid and buttery smooth 60 fps now.
