Jesse Thompson The artwork for Super Mario World never portrayed Yoshi with orange gloves. The sprite doesn’t even look like it has orange gloves; just orange arms. I think it was nothing more than a colouring error, similar to Link’s hair being pink in A Link to the Past.

Fun Fact: Donkey Kong Jr. was chosen instead of Donkey Kong in the original Super Mario Kart because of the white t-shirt he wears. The white t-shirt on his character sprite allows him to be recognized from far away in the track, instead of looking like a brown lump had he not have the shirt, like Donkey Kong.
