as a legit fan of super mario land, i can say with words how good this animation is and perfectly made with care Looks smooth and it's rlly well done and also very funny I love it
The ideas in Mario Land / Land 2 are truly unique, mostly because of Gunpei Yokoi’s involvment. We probably wont see such wild and crazy level ideas and characters
@@-hamburgerman- Gunpei Yokoi honestly should have made Super Mario Land 2 be the first Mario game for the Game Boy instead. I kind of feel like this game was merely a half-hearted attempt at a Mario game and it honestly shows.
@@kirbmaster9405 This is an old comment, since then the Direct with Mario Wonder came out. I’m really pleased with the ideas in Mario Wonder. Can’t wait to check it out!
@@paxhumana2015, the first game was made during the early days of the Game Boy, so it's understandable why it's a bit funky in some ways. It's still great alongside its sequel, nonetheless.
This was surprisingly more wholesome then usual, then Mario kamikazed himself. Good reminder of the fun tracks of Super Mario Land and I loved the South park theme rendition in the end!
@@tvfunkyman6269 Go take a look at Xandrecos back category of old videos then come back to your comment, this is far too tamed and wholesome compared to their other works 😭
@@SeppelSquirrel ...or you could develop a sense of humor and realize there was nothing hateful or discriminatory here, just a couple of fun gags. And maybe then teach your children the difference between jokes and actual hatred by showing them examples of both, instead of bubble-wrapping them from the world.
@@metaltom2003 If you really want to call mocking a nationality for its physical characteristics a form of "comedy," then it's one of the least clever and childish forms of humor imaginable. I'm not saying it's not okay for characters to be bad. The framing of the story can easily be reworked to not glorify aspects such as cultural mockery or sexual assault.
@@SeppelSquirrel There's absolutely nothing wrong with caricatures (yes, even those of my own ancestors) and we should all be able to poke a little fun at each other without getting offended. And "sexual assault"? Not even close. There was a running gag throughout that it wasn't really a human girl Mario was rescuing, and we all knew by that point it was an enemy, just not which one or what would happen. So when Mario took a peek up the dress, what happened? He got blasted with a face full of ink from the octopus. That's the payoff that you missed because you can't stop virtue signaling. When did society become so extremely weak-minded and fragile that we can't even have a laugh at dumb jokes?
Since the Japanese have much better relations with S. Korea, since they're both capitalist countries and they are UN members, but China has relations with N. Korea, since they're both communist countries
@@TheLonelyGoomba I mean, the animation is overall good but there are some pretty questionable/outdated "gags" that you'd usually only see in a really old cartoon. Just because this is emulating that era's style doesn't mean it should take after every part of it.
Nice to know that I'm not the only one who thinks Daisy should've been designed to actually LOOK LIKE the princess of a desert kingdom, instead of just being Peach painted yellow.
The capital os Sarasaland is the Chai Kingdom, based on China. Daisy is the princess of ALL Sarasaland, so she should have been based on a more chinese lookalike.
I'm not aware of Chai Kingdom being the capital of Sarasaland. I would think Daisy being princess of all four kingdoms kind of means she can't look too much like belonging to any one of them. Anyway, "sarasa" supposedly comes from a Japanese-Portuguese pronunciation of "calico", meaning a flower pattern textile from India in colonial times. So you could say her simply having those simple flower motifs on her dress represents a vague orientalism. Of course you could look at Daisy's Thai costume in Mario Kart Tour and pretend that's something she wears in Sarasaland. What I'm disappointed in is that in the SML manual her crown was red, but later it became a boring gold crown.
0:01 I love this rendition of the save file select music from Mario RPG, I wish I could find it in full! It’s a really mellow rendition of the original theme.
This is my favorite one, thanks for being nice to the big spider! It's commendable ignoring peer pressure and being sweet where you can even in genre ratings where everyone is expecting grossness and violence. : 3
Okay, first of all, I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the little dance at 4:25. :3 Also, great job implementing the original sound effects in such a creative way! And I loved the little world map screens too, they felt totally authentic to the old game!
i JUST found out about this channel today, and to think that i was going to witness yet another animation being uploaded on the same day is just baffling to me
This video came just in time for Super Mario Land’s 34th Anniversary, this had all the love and quality put into it like a TerminalMontage’s “Something About” Series, I love how in the beginning everything starts in color but changes to the Gameboy Color Pallete, now that’s staying true to the original game!
Super Mario Land will always hold a special place in my heart, so hearing the sounds from the game lovingly used in creative ways, along with the appropriate music for each "land," was a treat. Thank you.
Inclusive voce percebeu que no final da animação o mario explodindo o avião e uma referência ao kamikaze (aviões do Japão na segunda guerra mundial usado para ataques suicidas)cara esse e uma referência que impressionou muito, abraço
Xandrecos animations are great because: - None of the character's line art is rigid. It's more or less rubber hose animation. - There's so much charm and charisma to the way characters move and emote. - I've never seen a more enjoyable take on Mario. He has the cutesy/upbeat quality of Nintendo's Mario, but also the inconsiderate curiosity and chaotic energy that reflects player-actions. This Mario would (and has) dropped the baby penguin off of the cliff just because he could. - There's value to not rapid firing jokes. The animator makes the animation itself visually interesting in art, theme, and pace, occupying attention with intrigue, which allow his gags to come in left field, naturally. - The gags are delightfully inconsistant. In pacing and in crassness. And none of the crass gags jump the shock shark. - This man managed to convey an _ironically extreme racism gag_ without dialog. The blowing up of the innocent seahorse was my favorite bit. As was the abrupt and unnecessarily loud/rapid audio used for Mario's scamper when he walked away from the water.
cara, eu adoro essa animação, eu n sei como mas vc conseguiu deixar o mario mt fofo. Essa é a melhor animação de mario q vi e ainda por cima é br. Vc é muito talentoso, continua assim! ^^
I'm a bit drunk but I love this. Has all the energy of some random ass flash clip I could've seen on new grounds as a 7 year old in 2003. Plus, I just love pantomime storytelling. 😊
Oh my god this was soooo cute and creative🤣 You gave so much charm and personality to Mario!! I love that you used 8-bit sound effects for his "voice" I liked that detail Also 5:38 racist Mario?😅☠
DUDE!!! This video was PERFECT! From the animation to the sound design and references! I especially liked the pokemon sun/moon spider one. Yuo are legitematley one of the youtube creators of all time! Hope you continue making more good stuff
Oh my God! I love this video so much. We don't see much animation in the style of 60s-80s' Marry Melodies/Disney shorts nowadays. (This is coming from someone born in '99, I'm not that old to say "the good 'ol days".)
Wow!! Incredible and so much personalit. I could have watched this for an hour. You really captured the feeling from the old game and got me excited about playing it again. Really laughed a couple of times, and put my hand over my mouth at some other moments. Overall a fantastic job!! Will remember this! Definitely a new subscriber here going to check out the rest of your library. 10/10
Anyone who owns this gem on 3DS or Gameboy, You'll know this is literally your average Mario saving Daisy (Just without a Psychadelic Totomesu, Daisy in a Freakin' Harem costume, Mario being nice to Kumos (The two camel spiders), Mario mocking a Pionpi & The infamous Japanese kamikaze on Tatanga... )
@@xandrecos That's pretty badass, as good as the original Orchestra rendition is after hearing this I can't help but call back to the childhood days with my first owned Mario game. Hope the great animations continue and take breaks if needed
This is funny and very characteristic. You crossed lines people don't dare cross anymore and it made it even better. The south park music at the end was just the cherry on top.
In the year 2006, I met Mario Mario when I went to Nintendo NY to purchase my Wii. He was there at the store, waving and greeting the customers and fans, hugging and taking pictures. But when he got to me, his face grimaced, and he knelt down to my height. He forcefully put his hands in my pocket and took my money and smashed my Nintendo DS and Blackberry phone. He then proceeded to tell me “A-no one is-a gonna believe you.” And got back up and laughed and wahoo’d. But great animation, Xandrecos!!
