I really hope that they cut down the prices on the characters/mii suits that cost rubies. they're basically making it somewhat impossible to get the characters if you don't purposefully muss out on the new pipes and such. Like, yeah they're high-ends, but cutting it down to like 30 rubies per high-end and 25 per racing suit would be more fun.

As someone who has been playing since day one im super excited about this update and is probably the best thing to happen to the game

Wow! I did not expect something like this at all! I can't believe Nintendo is removing the lootbox pipes! I wonder how getting the high end skins will work now that they are going away! I wonder how much getting a character will cost if you can only buy them with rubies from now on.

Why do i have a feeling this has something to do with the belgium law put in years ago or a country that has already banned loot boxes and told nintendo TAKE IT OUT OR ELSE. Some companies like nintendo prefer to take everything out in all countries rather then some countries just to avoid legal troubles as different countries have different complex laws over this.

They should make the spotlight item price no higher than 125. Emptying a pipe for 450 rubies used to give you 3 spotlights so each spotlight costed 150 rubies, and you'd get a lot of other items too, including high ends

This… is actually really interesting, because it now opens up the possibility of the booster course adding some battle tracks too, due to the work already being done in tour.

I think this is the first time that I’ve actually genuinely been excited for something about Mario Kart Tour! I’ve only played a very little bit of the game, but with this change, I might get back into it!

I’m so excited! I plat MK Tour everyday and it’s still hard to get the characters, karts, and gliders I want before running out of Rupies. I love that they got read of the Gotcha element!

Oof, while removing the gacha mechanics is great for getting EXACTLY what you want, which is always great! If the prices are over 100 rubies each Driver/Kart/Glider, leveling up super and common drivers are going to be a pain, especially with the pipes gone. But let's see, I'm mixed so far about the announcement, but maybe this will be the best update ever! Though, the grind will probably be much bigger.

Well I didn't mind the gatcha mechanic of this game, I found it fair that I could get at least 2 45gem pulls per week without spending a dime since I started in March. I'm just glad I got King Bobomb and gold King Bobomb in the same pipe when I did

While I'll miss the adrenaline rush of getting a spotlight on my freebie pipes im glad the gacha is gone. I never really was a fan of it and I always wished something like this would happen. I'm not sure how ruby pricing will be in the shop but I feel they'll follow the pipe logic of 450 to get everything which is the same as a full 100 pipe. We'll see though I'm glad they're making mario kart tour more accessible to play. Super excited about battle mode too! Looking forward to seeing how that works! Also I hope they remove the xp cap on courses because having to checklist which tracks you maxed is kinda lame :\

With this and the fact that they released Sky-High Sundae across 8 Deluxe and Tour at similar times, it seems like they're really trying to push Tour to 8 Deluxe players.

I think I know why they’re doing this. Once Mario Kart 8 DX Booster Course Pass Finishes. They Can Do A Mario Kart Tour + MK8DX Sync And You Unlock Some The Characters you have on Mario Kart Tour. It’ll will be all the original Characters. Funky Kong Dixie Kong Diddy Kong Petey Piranha Chargin Chuck Kamek Pauline Monty Hammer Bro King Bob-omb Honey Queen (Datamined For MKT) Wiggler (Datamined Fow MKT) Parakoopa - Alt For Koopa Troopa (Datamined For MKT) They Add A Couple Of Alts to some existing racers in MK8 Too such as White Tanooki Mario, Captain Toad for Toad. Captain Toadette For Toadette, Angel Baby Peach, Detective Baby Rosalina, Koala Baby Mario etc💗

My originally didn't play this game that much, but now that these updates are coming in, I'm starting to go back into the game.

Nintendo really made the game for everyone to play... I’ve been wanting a mobile game without gachas.

Awesome this might just bring me back to playing Mario Kart Tour I honestly stop playing cuz I would always waste my rubies trying to get new drivers, karts and gliders from pipe pulls but would always get the same kart driver or glider I already had so now that there’re gonna be removing the pipe pulls and adding a shop to get the drivers karts and gliders is awesome now maybe I get get some of the characters I’ve been wanting I’m glad they’re doing this

As a veteran MKT player, if Nintendo adds a limit to how many spotlights you can purchase in the shop similar to Token Shop/Daily Selects, the removal of pipes will be good for newcomers to the game to collect new items, but will hinder all players in the long run. Characters have levels, and with levels, higher score for the ranked cup to earn more rubies, with the removal of pipes, coins will become even more important as we will need to BUY characters now! I hope pipes aren’t completely removed like from the daily challenge mission, or Token Shop

I’m okay with this greatly, as now I can just get what I want without the hassle. It’ll make getting future alts for my favourite character manageable or getting cool karts and gliders. Plus battle mode will be hella fun, especially online.

Wouldn't it be cool and pretty crazy if they added more battle mode tracks to Mario Kart 8 like the booster course pass? they could call it "the battle pass"

Might pick up the game now that the gacha mechanic is being "suppressed", or something along those lines. I dunno how you'd actually describe it. It's basically just getting partly removed. (Anything for a Cat Cruiser, Toadette and stuff like that.)

i already miss pipe pulling. the gamble was something special on the game which always got me excited every week again

this is basically an update that helps f2p players as instead of "gambling" to get what you want, they can just purchase what they want with their hard earned rubies upfront instead! on the mario kart discords, theres been a great debate and discussion on the impact this could have on the game as a whole, like how this might effect how much whales spend on the game from now on, etc.

I played since like day 3 of the game’s release and I stopped during the beach tour so I might actually pick up the game again if it becomes easier to catch up

If Mario Kart Tour ends up having its own original battle maps, you can bet they’re going to be added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe eventually

Okay, this could actually save the game, the reason why the game was so hated was because of the Gacha stuff

Glad they're finally ditching Gacha, it was kind of the main reason I never even touched Tour, and now with it going away, I may try it out now! 😁

Some reactions are mixed from players. Because with the gacha system you can have an good and bad luck to obtain high end characters but in the end that's frustrating to get a normal and high characters. I think removing the gacha system are a good thing, but let's hope the ruby price in the Spotlight Shop don't exceed more or less than 45 or 70.

How much will it cost?

I'm a MKT player, and I don't usually do pipes less I really need to, I would so it if there's a character I really like but it's not often, when save 500 Rubies so I can get everything from the pipe(or less those Is high-end ones) but it it's interesting. Now I do like collect Is certain characters of certain costumes like Toadette or Bowser. Just few characters I like

To be honest, I kinda miss the gatcha pipe (even though I do admit that it was pretty naff and annoying at times) but I liked having the feeling of not knowing what I was going to get and there were times where I was expecting a specific high-end character but I still ended up getting another character in the same category which I would still be happy with but then again, I was finally able to get Halloween Rosalina with enough rubies from the new shop update.

I dislike gacha but I'm not sure this is good for FTP players at all. Mii suits that are being sold now are way too expensive, you're better off firing pipes, especially those 50 item pipes, since you're guaranteed to get the good stuff when you empty them. 225 rubies for a bunch of supers, gold and regular items is better than 100 for one super only.

I want Mario Kart 8 deluxe to have more characters, Reserve mode, and at the end of the dlc have 96 total courses to race in the vs mode

I'm curious as to how battle mode is going to work with Tour's controls since the last I checked, there's no way to reverse or stop and the turning isn't exactly the tightest

This is a *_huge, HUGE_* step in the right direction!!! *_However,_* Mario Kart Tour *_*still*_* needs to be ported over to PC - to make it more accessible to people who: 1. Don't want, own or cannot afford a smartphone but do own a PC; or 2. Own a smartphone as well as a PC, but the smartphone that they own is too old and outdated to be able to actually technologically handle the _Mario Kart Tour_ mobile video game (whether it be because of the lack of/not enough memory/RAM to actually technologically run the video game or because of the smartphone device in having too low of a resolution to be able to display _Mario Kart Tour_ video game gameplay properly there).

Maybe now I can have a chance for those Pauline alts. And the other High-End drivers that haven't earned my ire (the ones for Wario come to mind, but he's usually best in the WarioWare titles anyway).

Welp, looks like I'm finally heading back to Mario Kart: Tour. I honestly cannot think of a better thing to happen than that stupid gatcha system being completely removed.

I think it’s because of many free to play games removing the Loot Boxes.

As gacha is predatory and notorious, it's good to see it removed for good. I simply can never enjoy this stupid game at all and with the removal of gacha, I still won't head back to this game either. It will go offline for good one day anyways now that the gambling is gone.

damn, that is certainly unexpected. i don't play Tour anymore but it's make me wonder how i'd feel if FE Heroes did the same thing.

Probably closer to what MTG and Yu-gi-oh are doing online. It's not perfect because it still has temporary rewards and confusing currency. It's a step-forward... I guess, let's hope it keeps going this way I never tried Tour, but I might try it now

Speaking as someone who couldn't care less about Mario Kart Tour, this is super great to hear! The gacha elements were one of the central criticisms I had towards it, so seeing a good chunk of the gacha mechanics being removed is like a dream come true!
