Mario Lanza Arrivederci Roma - English Version 

I was at an uncles funeral of mine a few weeks ago,one of his favourite singers was Mario Lanza,and they played I’ll walk with god,my mum had an album of his when I was a kid but it was all in Italian. This was the first time I had heard Mario sing in English, I’ve never been into opera ever,but this just blew me away got to be the best voice I’ve ever heard, I shouldn’t really say this but for me it was the highlight of the funeral,an absolute brilliant and amazing talent.

Such a passionate singer. There will never be another like Lanza.

In Mario Lanza all the elements of a perfect singing voice came together for a brief fleeting moment but like a Greek hero was taken from the world at an early age but will never be forgotten.

I wonder how many of my friends remember listening to Mario Lanza in their teens, buying his records & watching all of his movies. He was our introduction to opera, & I still listen to him.. But we were such musical snobs; we thought that anyone who was popular with the masses couldn't be all that extraordinary. Now, 65 or so years later, it does my heart good to realize that he is regarded by some of the most respected opera singers as one of the greatest of the century.
