From the film "Midnight kiss" Music from the 5th symphony by P. Tchaikovsky
This is just what I like. A technicolor production with terrific stage craft, gorgeous chorines, proper respect for the theatrical experience and above all, fabulous singers in Mario and Miss Grayson. Cracks in the reality of life, papered over to give us a fantasy that lifts our souls to a higher plane where we can be at peace. I do miss those days....
I used to love the whole "Sunday Afternoon" Hollywood musical time. My kids grew up not knowing what i was talking about; then the Sunday film went; then the Christmas blockbuster, now there is no xmas film. Where is the anticipation, the build up, the sheer exhiliration of knowing your actor is in a new film TOMORROW? and you are going to see it at the cinema?
Two marvelous singers. They could perform any opera. So sad that Mario Lanza died at the age of 38 in Italy. His wife died five months later of a “broken heart” according to his daughter Elissa. Elissa , the oldest of four children was only nine yrs. old.
So lovely to listen to Mario Lanza and Kathryn Grayson together! The music and the splendid costumes are a pleasure to listen to and watch! Such greatness is immortal; their music lives on for all of us!
They are perfect together! I have the DVD of That Midnight Kiss & never get tired of listening to them singing this aria from The operetta, Maytime (?). Well worth ordering it & Mario Lanza's other movies, on line. So enjoying them! He, Kathryn Grayson & their glorious voices live on, never to be forgotten. May they RIP
Love this clip of the movie That Midnight Kiss, They were magic together! This makes my day every time I view & listen to their glorious voices & stage presence. Thanks for this beautiful video. Always Mario Lanza & Kathryn Grayson!
The opening choral section is from the 1st Piano Concerto. This music was never intended to be sung, but that doesn’t stop Maestro Iturbi and the whole gang.
Express yourself clearly, 1st piano concerto, stupid statement. Who composed this, When was it composed, 1st Piano Concerto, from ???????????????????????????????????????
"The final of the movie "That Midnight Kiss" with the participation of Mario Lanza and Katherine Grayson (1949). The music is borrowed from the 5th symphony of P.I. Tchaikovsky."
Does anyone else notice that Lanza's and Grayson's voices sound slightly speeded up? Lanza in particular is singing higher than in other recordings of his.
Lanza and Grayson, Pavarotti and Freni. Lanza was arguably better than Pavarotti, although it was close. But Grayson, while very pretty, was hardly competitive with Freni or any other legitimate soprano. This isn't quite fair because Freni was usually classified as a lyric not one of the high coloraturas like Lily Pons or Roberta Peters. Those kind of sopranos - "soprano acuto sfogato" - went out of fashion around the time Grayson became popular. Since the sixties Lucia was likely to be cast as a much bigger, heavier voice like that of Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland or Beverley Sills. The high "bird' sopranos were seldom heard except in specialty parts like Fiakermilli or Zerbinetta - Seconda Donna roles. The coloratura Prima Donna roles went to more substantial voices.
Pavarotti made ONE movie and it bombed so bad he never made another . Pav could not come close to Lanza in popular music he was strictly a Operatic Tenor and one of the best but Mario did it ALL and that's why he will be remembered as the Greatest Tenor ever. Grayson said Mario was the Greatest Tenor, Callas herself said one of the regrets she had was she never got the chance to sing with the greatest tenor voice she's ever heard Mario Lanza.
I don't agree with your evaluations and the names you mentioned. Your listing lacks the name of a soprano singer that substituted KG's original voice in the Madam Butterfly scene. Sorry, I'm too old to come to her name right now.
the greatest tenor thatever lived correlli said it domingo said it berjorling was a fan tucker pieace all of them in his time one guy by the name of mecurio talkof of as just recording studio made artist but he never heard lanza live like Joan Sutherland did or Renata tolbaldidid your pears who are singer much moreimportant to get their approval then critics who cant sing
Do you know it would really help people to understand what you have written if you could just spell it correctly. Please take some time to look at your writing before posting.
