It's been a week and I am still listening to this. Nobody sings like this guy. Listen to the power and ringing in the voice...and the emotion. Captivating. Not an even, sleepy, poetic sound like Caruso or Borjling. This guy is on fire with Tosca! What an amazing interpretation!

Yes, this is true! I am a vocal teacher and can tell you that it is amazing that he had such a talent. It is due, partially because he had love in his life and secondly a great underlying technique. I think humble and charismatic are just two of the wonderful words that describe him perfectly, when he sang he meant it, every part of his being when into his singing. You've got to have incredible pipes to sing this well under ANY conditions, and nobody ever has matched Lanza's pipes before or since. I'm quite confident that if Mario had gone in that operatic direction without Hollywood's intervention, he'd have been the premier tenor ever, which in my book, he still is. But I don't think we'd have had as much of a treasure trove of his remarkable performances as we do if he had done so. What a pleasure to be privy to this remarkable performer.

Very true. Part of becoming a professional opera singer is smoothing out rough edges. But the rough edges are what make music relatable to the average Joe. Although I would have wanted to hear Lanza at the most professionally developed version of himself, I also think they would have also taken away much of if not all of the human emotions that makes his performances so compelling.

Mario's astounding voice & passion could make a stone weep; I feel emotional turmoil whatever ML does.......he was the GREATEST E V E R, and I could qualify that had I space. There have been MANY 'taught' voices, and it's a terrible shame that ML didn't live to kindle HIS unique flame in other aspiring singers by means of master classes. Who was Pavarotti's early HERO? Guess! None other than Mario Lanza. Young Pav worshipped ML's voice & genius. Can you blame him?

+Charles Henry Mr. Henry, Then why did the so called "real singers" pay tribute to him in praise of his God Given talent? This was proof enough! There's a saying, "if you don't have anything good to say, then don't say anything"!!

SrSoapFan It's hard to criticize a colleague especially one who passed away so young and is such an icon as viewed by the general public. But I'd be willing to bet, heavily, that these "real singers" if pressed one to one in private, would "sing a different tune" regarding mr. lanza.

Believe what you'd like, but then we'll never know. We are all entitled to our own opinions. Mario Lanza will be remembered for the timeless treasures left for all to enjoy & discover, for generations to come.

+Charles Henry So Charles.(according to you) we are to believe that all the KNOWLEDGEABLE singers, musicians, conductors etc who praise Lanza are two faced liars (saying one thing and thinking another) and YOU are the only truthful person .......have you ever seen anyone about this problem?

ELUZALYRICS

This man inspired many to seek fullfillment thru the voice and opera. Luciano, Placido and Jose have all paid homage to him. As great as those singers are I still enjoy Mario's voice the most.

Mario Lanza was the best of the best I cried when I heard him as a kid and I cry uncontrollably now when I hear him sing, what a tragic and sad tale of his life he lived but his beautiful and incredible wonderful voice lives on God keep you Mario you brought so much joy to so many and were treated harshly by Hollywood and critics that made you sick and brought pain in your life, So is the life of a great artist..Rest in peace maestro.....

I don't think there will be another as great as Mario Lanza. I don't believe there is enough time left for humanity to produce another. Not in a thousand years. Rest in peace great Mario.
