The hat's not cheating, it's cheese. The badges are part of the game and just like any other part, the dev needs to account for them.

Yeah and thus.. every level either has to account for every badge or just every level is a "badge challenge" since.. it obviously is possible to limit badges that way

If it's not limited to a specific badges via a challenge then it's basically just intended gameplay mechanics or rather clever use of gameplay mechanics.

You know, if someone could figure out a way to give Mario the Spin Jump badge and the Wall Climb badge at the same time, and to stop Mario from getting an auto power-up when hitting a checkpoint, I bet they could make a full-blown Celeste mod out of this game. That would be absolutely incredible.

I can't help but imagine someone recreating the piranha plants singing in some way for the sole purpose of making them sing really silly things. Like imagine playing a modded level and grabbing the wonder flower only to be hit with Baka Mitai Piranha Plant edition or something.

Fun Fact: you can actually kill shadow Mario. It takes forever and only works with the fire flower but it's doable.

No it should not be, like the occasional modded levels is fine but I still prefer officially made levels in my official games.. like I am so glad Wonder came out, was legit worried they would just go "lol everything is Mario Maker now, we don't gotta do as much anymore"

@@BaconNuke I disagree, this is Nintendo and their flagship. I'd argue with the evidence of Mario Maker 2 having a decent story mode, Ninji Speedruns and at least some but way less than we wanted or deserved updates added after release.

Using badges isn't cheating. I haven't played the game yet, but I know using a main mechanic that's available to you is not cheating. It's like saying you're cheating for using power ups in any mario game.

I mean, you can't get those badges in the hack stages if you aren't intentionally loading an already completed save. Considering the stages mostly replace the first level, starting fresh would not let you use them. It's like using a precompleted save file to play a game you never played before.

Restricted to stuff like playing a hack that doesn't have it obtainable and using it anyway by loading a save that got it through the basegame? Using stuff that is unobtainable without external tools is pretty clear taint. It's like saying gameshark codes aren't taint because a hack didn't tell you it's not okay to use a moonjump code.

It's definitely cheating. The only way to use the hat is to use a save that was used to complete stuff in the base game. Almost all badges are unobtainable in hacks currently, and require an external tool to get them (like in this case, a save for the non-hack version of the game). If something is unobtainable within the context of a game or a hack, then obtaining it and using it through means outside of the game/hack is a form of cheating. If you loaded an SM64 base game save in a romhack and got to skip to the final boss right away due to the base game stars, would that not be cheating?

Custom Wonder looks incredible! Though I don't think kaizo would be fun unless shell jumps were at least a 4 frame window, preferably 5 frames. Overly specific, flow breaking tech gets tiresome.
