its definitely a deeper discomfort that sticks with more people. seeing mario but with his eyes bleeding or something might scare little kids but most adults would think its goofy and too unrealistic. but parts of this thing sound actually believable and are just somewhat unsettling and threatening and i think the doubt of "what if this is real and it's in my game too" adds a lot
@@perkypears I 100% agree. The more it seems like something like this might actually be real, the scarier it is and it definitely has more of an impact and lasting effect than just a jumpscare. Very interesting, I love seeing stuff like this and how creative people can get, it's really cool to see.

I recognize those hex values! The "exceptions" are actually hex values that can be converted into text. The first one at 1:41 converts to "hellsatan" The second one at 5:25 converts to "luigi mod" The third one at 5:57 translates to "thx4luv!"
What if the last one is relating to the fact that all of his piracy videos got a lot of attention and love, and he put that secret into the message to prove it was fake. It’s probably not what it means, but it’s just something I thought.

I wish we could find out about hoaxes today without people immediately saying they're fake. Like, yes. I know they're fake. But I want to think they're real.
The concept actually makes more sense than a completely new AP "boss", a minigame with minor modifications would make the most sense from a development standpoint
The "Run" so-called Boss is what gives this away an edit, since it is merely an edit of one of the mini-games from the game (Mole Thrill). Everything else is convincing, but that gave it away immediatly.
Well, if it were a real anti-piracy measure, reusing code from another minigame would be more efficient than making an entirely new one that almost nobody would get to see anyway, but the "RUN" and "There is nothing you can do" were what made me think it was probably fake when I first saw it. If the fake boss minigame wasn't in there I might've still believed this myth, but it's entertaining, at least.
The part where i tought it was 100% fake was the run minigame part.. i remembered a certain creepypasta with a level that is called "RUN".. multiple acctualy

Yeah, there’s a couple of inconsistencies that make this whole thing seem fake. Firstly, the first 240p upload has the spacing in the word “illicit” seem off (1:56), and the “destroy the game card” messages are definitely not something I would imagine Nintendo putting in a game. Quite apart from the severe reaction to an apparent software error, surely Nintendo would want to take a look at the pirated version to see what they could find about the actual pirate (eg. Methods of actually cloning the card). Then it slips into creepypasta territory with the “RUN” minigame and the “There is nothing you can do” message.
@@wiibrockster No offense but that's most definitly overexagerated. Sonic.exe was a pretty bad creepypasta cause it was just sonic bad but with blood. In my opinion this would be a creepypasta done right. No mario with blood. Its something that at first glance seems like something nintendo could do adding to immersion which can be broken if nitpicked at but most people don't do that. You can tell that there is effort in this. Saying that this just became another sonic.EXE is just wrong.

Tbh this isn't even the scariest anti-piracy measure. But it sounds on the boundary of extreme considering it's nintendo, and when more videos were uploaded like that, I was convinced they were fake fake. But if I only saw one of those without context, I would believe it.
Imagine, getting Mario Party DS for Christmas or your Birthday and 5 minutes later the piracy screen comes up and you have nothing to do but either send this info to Nintendo themselves or just destroy the game card.
@@hungryleolord6043 At least he has his own line of games, playable on many many Mario games, is in Mario kart 7(Waluigi replaced by a bee and wiggler), and Smash games, if there's anyone left out than others in the Mario universe then it's Waluigi who has no own games, isn't cannon in mainline mario games, is a assist trophy is Smash games, and is purposefully neglected by Nintendo as a joke. Waluigi is the one in shadows here in the gaming world. Luigi just gets bullied often because he's an easy target with his personality making it seem fitting. Younger siblings begin bullied is a common stereotype everywhere.
"Many were convinced this was real" Yeaaaaaaaaaah except the fact that the "Run" and "There is nothing you can do" text on the monty mole death screen was such an obvious spooky spaghetti bait that it took me out of the video immediately. Interesting that someone went through the effort but they kinda blew the joke there with that one, shame too. This was almost believable for a bit.

honestly, it's a pretty simple comment. It's not a "you're screwed" statement alone, it's more saying that "there are no controls for you to learn, and there's nothing you NEED to do right now. Just wait"
The beginnings of all these seem real, and then at a certain point it’s basically “okay now that they believe me it’s time to make it creepy.” Monty Mole saying “Oh, I’m terribly sorry. I don’t serve criminals.” was more than likely simply followed by, “Please make sure you’re playing a legitimate copy of this game!” And that’s it. Something like that.
I think the most unconvincing part of “I don’t serve criminals” is how far they are in the game 😅 But also the Run mini game is actually a reprint of the mini game “Mole Thrill” where you normally have to dig away with a second player from the mole to the finish line!

Coincidentally I was actually playing a mario party ds ost when I first saw the piracy screen videos and because of that I realised that if it was real the ost would have been released years ago. So I knew it wasn't real from the start due to pure coincidence
This is definitely a more “real” creepypasta, even though it is fake. Also there is another, more unsettling, video not made by Joey, about the Dry Bones boss. But, anti piracy measures that guilt or directly speak to the player, are like actual creepypastas.
Nintendo did implement anti-piracy measures before. Like in Earthbound, believe it or not, they added one that if you play a pirated copy and make it to the final area, right before you fight the final boss, Giygas, it would instead erase your save file and boot you to the title screen, making you lose all your hours and hours of progress. So I was told.

Out of all these, Monty Mole saying he doesn't serve criminals is the most convincing to me, due to how simple it is. The "Run" segment definitely feels like it came straight out of a Creepypasta though, that's for sure 😂😂

Well actually it is still just a rumor at the moment, the credibility of the dossier revealed is still being questioned and so far the most credible sources, which includes folk who used to work at Nintendo, have found it to be hogwash.
The Monty Mole boss is an edited version of Mole Thrill, an actual 2v2 minigame where you dig away from a large Monty Mole, it's nothing special aside from not having a partner. It originally being a 2v2 minigame is also why the image has 2 characters in it.
The girl speaking a different language she says: piracy is a illegal crime, you used up all your time. Being a pirate is not nice, now you better pay the price.

Fun fact: Earthbound actually has one. It’s way less scary and all that happens is once you get to Giygus and beat him, it just brings you back to the file load and all your work in that save file is deleted.
