I left the stream for a few minutes and came back to an anime protagonist having a conversation with Mario in the rain. Couldn't tell if the scene was trying to be emotional or ridiculous.

This was such a good game to start the "mystery game" series

Phill if you end up enjoying the series I highly recommend the sequel it's a lot more developed and the lore is fucking crazy in that one

People are giving it flak for having Mario characters in a setting that doesn't really fit his universe, but if the setting was more akin to something from the games, it would be just fine.

So here’s the funny thing Anyone else remember Flipnote Hatena? A Nintendo community full of short animations and other interactives between its members, by its members. Lots of cool animators were able to be found there. “Mariosfriend9” (Now named CorpseSyndrome on RU-vid) was one of them, making music videos based off of some other Newgrounds or RU-vid animation called “Power Star” I believe. _MF9’s stuff was very much on the same exact wavelength with the intro cutscene of this game,_ so if it feels 2007-2010 then that might be why. When Hatena went down, some of us were smart enough to follow our favorite creators to other websites amid all the heartfelt “farewells.” Some became RU-vidrs. Others, Deviantart. This one uploaded their stuff to RU-vid… _and_ announced a game. “Mario and the Music Box.” There’s a small amount of history with this game, but it’s only a small strand in the head of hair that was the legacy of “Flipnote Hatena.”

I love this game simply because it’s such a silly fun time. Like the creator just put their dreams and random ideas and actually made a game outta that and I just adore that. Also I follow one of the creators and you can tell they genuinely love Mario and that just makes me happy.

I think the biggest problem with this game is, WHY MARIO!? He feels very out of place in this game, and it makes the scenes with him on screen look jarring. Its kinda like with Kingdom Hearts where you'll have this very emotional scene going on, and then you see fucking Donald Duck come in. Don't take this as me hating this game, I can see there was a lot of effort put into this, especially with the artwork, but I feel like this game should've been its own thing rather than it being a fan game of an existing property. Good Stream though.

This game just boggles my mind. I don't get why it's Mario related, especially since the inclusion of Mario characters instead of more original characters doesn't seem to add anything whatsoever (Aside from having to give Mario a Super Mushroom at one point, but that could've easily been replaced with something different) and it just ends up detracting from the game, making the story significantly harder to take seriously, especially for a game that seemingly wants to be mostly serious (aside from certain moments like Riba pretending to be a lamp). It's kind of sad cause I could see this story being something decent if it wasn't for Mario characters being involved and killing the mood.

Oh boy. I'll start out by saying that this game is very well made. The art, environments, and some puzzles are pretty good. They worked very hard on this and it shows. Good job. Other than that...this game is goofy as fuck. It tries it's damned hardest for you to take it seriously, but for me it's impossible. It gets even worse at the climax. So much fucking edge that it either comes off as laughable or something you roll your eyes at. So many pointless deaths. It's suprising(or funny) the first maybe 5 times before it becomes "oh I died again. Yeah, okay." The story is so stupid... I feel like even without chris pratt and luigi it would still be doofy. I really dislike this story lol. But for the people who can actually take "the mario brothers get murdered and possessed by anime girls-the game" seriously, rad for you. Glad you can enjoy something I can't.

This game would have been even better as an indie game, not revolving around Mario co. Mario and the Music Box would have done better if it was associated with the Mario IP. I think the drop of attention towards it is the learned helplessness from first-party Nintendo fans that any passion game projects from fans will be shut down and taken down by Nintendo given enough time, considering how harsh and aggressive Nintendo is with their copyright and trademarks compared to other game companies.
