Moderator thinks he has a much stronger relationship and understanding with Mark than he actually does

And you do? Moderators are not friends. If what they do is to forward the conversation they need to do their homework. If they care. They are professionals that interview, in this instance, the artist.

I think Auping's understanding of Bradford's oeuvre is pretty thorough, however what sets him apart from other annoying curators (seems to be a prerequisite for the profession) is that he speaks to the audience and and refers to Bradford in the 3rd person, then mid-sentence turns to Bradford and addresses him saying "you..."

I think they have a great talk together - weaving an interesting net of reflections on the very interesting and beautifull art and reflections of Mark Braden - very inspiring in every possible way 🎶💜🎵

Mark, you do "stay on the ground." You come across as so authentic and unpretentious, which is rather refreshingly stunning considering that you're in the upper echelon of American visual artists. I LOVE your work and have so enjoyed you being you in this interview. I'm enriched and inspired. You are a treasure indeed. God bless you. One of your fans.

And wonderfull how questions from the audience also inspired to some very wise reflections on how we often put each other or are put into little boxes - always dividing into subject-object - this is a veryinspiring artist talk🙏🎶🖤🎵

I can't get enough of Mark. A perfect representation of what contemporary art should be and the real life connection to the communities outside of galleries.

I met him this past Saturday, he is just a beautiful person! His work is an extension of him!

I´m in love with how ( not so serious ) he takes himself and try to not over conceptualize his work to be more appealing to the spectator... He is a creative soul that is playing with things whiting easy reach ...and do so Brilliantly !!!

Just watched this and thoroughly enjoyed the talk. Very funny, engaging, thoughtful, kind and so so talented. I will go and press my nose against the glass walls of the US embassy to see that body of work; I love his explanation, the positioning of the panels uncomfortably next to each other to signify awkwardness of the constitution; it’s different atimes unequal treatments of its peoples.

I met Mark at the Rubin Contemporary Gallery in El Paso ,Tx a few years back and just fell in love with his work but most of all his philosophy of living and being a down to earth person who has navigated success with kindness, humility , humor and authenticity. Thank you Mark for your inspiration and congratulations on all of your successes well deserved.

Interesting dialoque and so nice to see some paintings while they somehow talk about, what, how and Why because that give you a feeling of what the paintings are like. And fun to hear about the inspirations from all and everything and reflections around what happens in life and in cultures around. 🧡❤️💗happy painting

Hi there, my name is Tate. I was hoping on creating my own podcast talking about AMERICAN football called Tate Talks. I see that you clearly already have this name but you haven’t posted in a couple months. Is there anyway you would change your name? It would mean a lot to me

It’s sad that black artists have to be sooo political in their art.

what mark bradford says in this very conversation is how he deals with (and perhaps struggles with) the idea of "being responsible" in terms of political engagement, social meaning, being seen as a representative, etc. You can see it stack up to the point where he interrupts a question from the audience and basically says "look let's talk about something else" because maybe there's too much pressure from the art world and the world at-large for a queer black artist to be politically charged; mark bradford and his work is more than just a political stance. Maybe we can approach his work with a mindset that acknowledges its political importance but also recognizes that his work exists in more dimensions than just the political realm- its about meaning, place, memory, love, home, pure expression, MATERIAL, etc.

Quite the subjective statement

Why not be political in Art, white artists do all the time! Anyways, why should it matter if he black? Would it be ok if he was white? Should all art be, impossibly, non-political? Art is a visual language. And, for some reason in human history Bradford's work has become important enough that people compete to buy it, and also want to go see it.
