Watched your original review of the band now learn how you finally got to meet one of the Chameleons ! Honestly you deserve to be loved in return by these guys because the authenticity of your love for their work shines through . I’d never heard them or heard of them until meeting a crazy character from Liverpool called Kenny Lee in 1986 whom could well have been hiding out on the south coast of England whom gave me a cassette on which he’d recorded various songs off their albums to date inc Strange Times . Bless him & everyone whom appreciates The Chameleons 😁👍❤️🐢
Chameleons are my favorite band ever. Been listening since the mid-90s and they reach me in a way that few bands do. Big Star might be the only other band that touches me in the same way.
The Chameleons stayed outside of the music industry Still had a very strong connection with their fans ☯️ He his a top songwriter/poet that is really universal, mystic & compelling 👏🏼
Truly amazing Dereck. Mark is an incredibly humble and honest individual. He never personally wants the spotlight on him, but rather the people as a whole who help create these driving melodies. His impact on the musical landscape is without a doubt unmatched. I’m looking forward to see Chameleons Vox for the first time tour in Dallas, TX this September!
I am deeply grateful for the time and thoughtfulness you and the artists put into each of these interviews. Thank you! Each one has been enlightening, enjoyable, and educational. You’ve inspired me to repurpose and move forward with a long-desired goal of interviewing my parents. My mom and dad are both 80 and I want my four year-old daughter to have a meaningful and thorough glimpse into the life trajectories of her grandparents. In early 2010, my wife and I interviewed my grandmother, and showed my mother the interview on Mother’s Day that same year. That was one of the most extraordinary and gratifying things I’ve ever done. My grandmother passed in 2015. She was a vital and prominent force in my life. She was 99. I miss her, Dereck.
Loving your posts you are a dude, you know what you're on about, made me laugh with the scratching sound, but you genuinely care about people, world ect,and you're musical knowledge wow.Big up Mark Burgess, Chameleons,so underrated it's criminal but it's like our special club.Thank you my friend Derek 🧡 Steve from Macclesfield NR Manchester ,England ❤
🤩❤️❤️🙏🏼 I've watched all your interviews and have really enjoyed them. I find myself surprised when they're suddenly over... wishing they were longer. I just adore Mark and I wish I could have seen you both play together 😍 Big Thanks 🙏🏼
I saw chameleons vox towards the end of 2019. Mark was sick and had lost his voice. Multiple people from the audience came up and sang the songs for him. Very memorable night
Thanks for sharing the way you do. You turned me on to these guys today. I have no idea how nobody I've known through the decades has ever mentioned or played any of their stuff - truly mysterious.
I own a signed vinyl of Script of the bridge and soon will have a signed What does anything mean? basically too! Fielding Burgess Smithies Lever C \ 23-06-24
Thanks for this gem of an interview! Interesting to hear Mark’s insights into his “writing” process. The Chameleons are my favorite band, and a special thanks to Jack Rabid and his life’s work, The Big Takeover Magazine, for introducing me to them in the ‘80s. Love your videos, Dereck! Please keep em coming!
Another fascinating and informative interview Dereck. Excellent. The Chameleons are one of the great unappreciated bands that I'm sure history will look back on and say how did they get away.
Wow wow so sorry technology got in the way of the rest of that interview. Chameleons are seriously a very underrated band. Threw all these years I guess I've been part of a cult following that sticks to them threw all the ups and downs not to mention the sideways streams with others. I often wondered if it's the lyrics that we relate to that gets us being loyal. For me it was Second Skin back in the mid 80's. I was moved to my core by those lyrics and I am still moved quite the same way. Back then I wrote to Mark Burgess from Canada and he wrote me back on Chameleon letter head which was pretty cool of him. Over the years I've wanted to see the band but I've lived all over because I was also in the music industry until I got RA living in London which kind of changed things. I returned to Canada and was living in USA for a while and just missed them again. Life gets in the way but I can imagine. So he played in Detroit and I didn't know because I live just across the river. I see what you mean, he is a young spirit for sure and looks like he has a lot to be happy about. I was pretty amazed that he uses the mic to write lyrics. I've only seen that once before and I witnessed it not turning out to well and I'm not naming names. Yeah so I'm looking forward to watching some more of your channel. P.S. I still have a Script of The Bridge cassette from the 80's orig albums of course.
@@dereckvon Yeah, Reg Smithies is playing too, I had some great nights out & gigs with Mark, about twenty odd years ago now. I spoke to him briefly online, by absolute chance, around two years ago. I doubt he'll remember me. We were once sitting talking before a gig he was doing with these guys & I wasn't aware that anyone was listening in to our conversation. He said that he'd wanted to do Swamp Thing, but the guitarists didn't know it. Someone behind said to Mark, "he can play it." Mark asked me if I would do it to start the gig. I said I would love to, but I made some excuse about the effects pedals chorus & digital delay etc. Which was total crap really, but I thought to myself, Swamp Thing is pretty easy & his guitarists don't know it? I must be doing something wrong & I didn't do it. So I didn't get my chance to do a song with him because I'm an idiot. I know you played Tears with him. Hopefully I'll get a chance to catch up with him. The world is so crazy now, compared to back then. There's far too much division & hatred in the world now. Anyway, I digress. Great I've found your channel again.

Enjoyed this interview. Shame it got cut short. Hopefully the new record will come to fruition. Still waiting to see the chameleons live for the first time here in the UK. Been postponed a few times already, now scheduled for July next year so fingers crossed.
Damn dude, I spoke to you about two years ago Derek, about times I had met Mark & I got my laptop & phone hacked by a virus called a Trojan. I lost all contacts & RU-vid subscriptions I had. I'm so sorry, please don't take this the wrong way, but I couldn't remember your name. I'm so glad I found you again mate. If you read this, I hope your keeping well & I've subscribed again right away! Ok, now I'll watch the interview.🙃
