I believe he was competing Garth Brooks at the time. When he was on the garth brooks channel on Sirius, he mentions the same thing. That they were so busy trying to make it out there that people like Mark were kind of lost in his dust! He did say he thought Mark Chesnutt was one of the greatest singers that was appreciated enough!

***** Nothing else to say, you nailed it. I met him yrs ago, it's a shame he didn't become one of Nashville's greatest, them holding him @ arms length because he liked to have a good time was Nashville's loss imo.
@CAROLUSPRIMA

xShadowWolf44x Believe as much of this as you want but I couldn't make it up. I was in school at the University of KY and writing and doing demos for the publisher of "The Gambler" who was also the writer of "Brother Jukebox." Chesnutt was interested very interested in one of my songs but a new fellow I'd never heard of had it on hold. This new fellow, Tracy Lawrence, recorded the song but it didn't make it on the record. Such was my brush with songwriting success, almost by accident because I hadn't pursued it in a meaningful way. I did later pursue it but never came this close again. I got, you know, the Del Reeves cuts and the like and perhaps got things on hold (which can be meaningless) but nothing like that.

What a haunting melody. Haunting melodies have always been my favorite. Chills....That song puts me imagining riding at night, a cool summer night, windows down, riding a highway or back road, in Montana somewhere, not any plans of location, just a lot on the mind and cruising. Beautifully sung. The treatment of the instrumentation is magical. That ride out at the end of the song is something. Song written by Jerry Fauster, superbly created.

I was in the green room at the oil palace in Tyler TX his bus had burned up on the way to the show earlier that week. Mark played this song and ask " What do ya think " I said that's one of my favorite Hank Jr songs. His jaw dropped and said Not many people know that. This quickly became my favorite version. Man did we have fun back in those days. Mark like to have fun. I got to hang out with him in those early days I was competing in the rodeo and he was booked at them or at a club in the same town. Blew me away when he came out with this. Hank Jr. had a version of it in the '70's, but this was an updated, better version - one of the few times when a remake is better than the original. Love how they added the electric guitar licks, piano, and fiddle, that made this song all its own version.

What a great song. First time I heard this I just wanted to play it over and over. A standout on that album. This is one of those shivers up your spine songs. Great solo to top it off.

One of the greatest country music singers in the 90s. And honestly, he can help saying 95% of today’s country singers

in 1992 I was backstage at an outdoor concert in Maryland and walked right past Mark Chesnut right after he finished his set on stage. I was 14. I remember him being shorter than I thought

You know that feeling when something is so perfect words can't do justice to internal connection..... This song feels like a piece of my soul. I would have to put it in my top 5^^ atf. It's one of the few songs I have to hear on repeat, every time.

my 1st weekend at Ft Lewis, WA I had the honor of seeing my hero, Chris LeDoux, Chesnut and Sawyer Brown at the Tacoma Dome! as much as I love Chesnut, he was sadly out-classed that night, NOT TALKING TRASH ON CHESTNUT!! but when ya have LeDoux's high energy performance opening and Sawyer Brown's high energy closing with Chesnut's setting on a bar stool stuck in-between... dont get me wrong, Chestnut put on a hella good concert! Id gladly watch him again!

Mark Chestnutt somewhat reminds me of a young Johhny Cash..his voice is crystal clear and pure country ..and his gaze when he looks directly into the camera is totally soul penatrating! From the video clips its easy to see that he really enjoyed performing and connecting with the audience..anybody got a time machine?

I'm not a big country fan but when I do listen Its to something like this! The older country is way better than than the pop country light shows that is out nowadays

My all time favorite cover song by a country artist ever! Hank Jr was the OG but Mark made it his own.
