I like this guy. I wanna watch his movies now. Self financing, or combination of self financing and crowd funding, is scary but for niche market like Optimistic Sci-Fi I think it's best model for me. Love to see more hints and tips from Mark. Thank you for this video.

I made my own film for 10 grand it’s on my channel called the journal it’s not a success story but since I decided to finance it myself when other people wouldn’t I got to make it. By the way at the time I had about 11 thousand in the bank so wasn’t really the smartest move but I’ll never forget it.

If nothing else, when you're old and grey, you'll be able to say "once upon a time, I made a movie" instead of "I wonder if..." like most people. Good on you bro!

Using your own money is great, if you have just sold the rights to a book and can invest your earnings in your film. But what about those of us who are scraping by, trying to pinch pennies in order to put $2500 into our own projects? Where do we find financing that we can still be proud of? Do we all need to have a side hustle that pays $250,000 in order to make our own films?

Cheers for the Video! Excuse me for chiming in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Renannah Tiyily Release (google it)? It is a good one off guide for learning how to get the ultimate millionaire mind minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my buddy after many years got great results with it.

It may seem like it, but it's not really a secret. Here's the formula: 1) Make a good movie. 2) Get it into film festivals. 3) Profit. 4) I cannot overstate the importance of #1 If you make a film that kills at festivals the way Duplass Bros. films do, studios/distributors will be banging down your door, because a movie that did great at festivals will _probably_ do well in theaters, and most importantly, it's already DONE. Think about it. These are business people, first and foremost. A good film that's already made is always going to be cheaper/easier than a _possibly_ good film that has _yet_ to be made. Put another way, it's the difference between spending $10M on a house you can walk through in person, and spending $10M on some plans, a plot of land, a bunch of lumber, and a team of workers.
@JoeBadon

@@daedalus_20v This is entirely the WRONG advice. I personally know SO MANY really good filmmakers that get into lots of decent festivals that get LITTLE TO NO MONEY for their movies from distributors. Distributors want either Star Power or Killer Shark movies.
@daedalus_20v
@daedalus_20v 3 года назад
@@JoeBadon LOL It's the "WRONG" advice but it comes directly from someone who DID THAT EXACT THING (me). And Duplass didn't sell his early films based on star power or killer sharks, so... not sure what to tell you. You seem sure you've got it all figured out, but at the same time, you're asking how to do it.
