okay this is the solo that officially sold me on guiliana resist the temptation to comeback with a snappy retort like _'oh yeah, well your comment isn't exactly the book of revelations'_
So far, for me this is the drum solo that I would show to god if god ask me about it 🙂↕️ I think Mark is a very deep person, and this is for me the definition of comunicación Im glad to see it for free
Almost slated this as self indulgent meaningless crap but then I watched his drumeo lesson where he explains what he's doing. It very clever. Watching this a second time you realize it's all in time. The snare at the start dictates the pulse. I get it
@@drewconlin9452 Probably just one of those situations where you observe a technically sound performance and appreciate it. It just doesn't musically click with you to where you're grooving with it, y'know?
I will say this - the majority of my experience during his solo was curiosity and i spent a lot of time pondering what it meant. And right after that "big girl now" line hit, i could feel the groove coming. and it was there. but it's definitely not for everyone.
In this staccato style, I much prefer the musicality of Dave King and Nate Wood (I also love the musicality of chop masters Kendrick Scott, Kenwood Dennard, JoJo Mayer and Christian Vander, but their styles are different.) But I love his playing with Avishai Cohen as well as on some of his other pieces like "Stadium Jazz." His skills are insane, much like Chris Dave's, although Chris Dave's chops are unsurpassed. I like what Chris Dave did 2012 and prior a lot more than I like his uber-avant-garde playing now, but like Guiliana, this is a preference. No one can question their other-worldly chops and mastery of time. They control time, not the other way around. The Pollock analogy is great.
