It's 20th May 1980 and Mark Hamill is on the BBC children's programme Ask Aspel.
This is approximately six minutes longer than the previous clip shared by myself and elsewhere. It's almost the entire programme less some non SW related stuff and a look at the film. There's an audio recording of this elsewhere online with the full programme lovingly recorded mic to speaker.

Excellent video to dispel the myth of the almost fatal accident. It wasn't, he broke his nose only and that's it.

So they always planned to do a prequel after they had finished the trilogy. Interesting, I didn't know that.

Also, Episode VI of the original trilogy was quite different than it is now because the original sequel trilogy was combined into the original trilogy. Here's an excerpt of the Wikipedia article about the Original Sequel Trilogy: By the time of Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back's release, Lucas had written story treatments for all nine Star Wars episodes. In 1999, Gary Kurtz revealed a brief outline of these treatments: Episode I would have explored the methodology of the Jedi. Episode II would have developed the backstory of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Episode III would explain the rise of Darth Vader. Episode IV had already seen Luke decide to become a Jedi and Obi-Wan's final confrontation with Vader. Episode V was filmed essentially as written. Episode VI was to feature Leia as an isolated monarch, Han's death, and Luke showing down with Vader before exiling himself. Luke and Leia were not related. Episode VII was to be the first part of a trilogy continuing the story of Luke as a Jedi. Episode VIII would have featured Luke's sister (unique from Leia). Episode IX would introduce the Emperor and depict Luke's ultimate battle with him. In late 1980, Lucas stated that he had "titles and ten-page story outlines for each of" the nine episodes.

@@JohnFourtyTwo "In late 1980, Lucas stated that he had "titles and ten-page story outlines for each of" the nine episodes." Which he didn't have. All the movies were written on the fly. The most he had were some rough notes of things he wanted to do.

Hi this is great to see. I put this together 10 years ago from my complete recording of the show from my cassette recordings. I know this is edited for Hamill but do you have the full recording?

Sadly no, just what the BBC have shared in the past spliced together. I saved your own recording a whole ago. It's great. I would record things with a mic too but didn't have the good sense to keep them, with tape being a premium. It's great your recording survived. Do you have any other star wars recordings?

Revenge of the Jedi?

That was its original working title but it was changed quite late in the day, so much so that Kenner had printed the packaging for action figures with Revenge Of The Jedi printed on at first (these are really quite rare and worth a lot of money, I understand)

@@GrilloTheFlightless It was in December 1982 when George changed the title from Revenge to Return of the Jedi. I remember seeing the posters in the theater lobby for coming attractions but didn't think about buying one from the Star Wars Fan Club because I didn't think about how much it would be worth back then when I was a 16-year-old kid, I've regretted not buy one ever since.

That is now 40 years ago. And once upon a time, Mark Hamill had the Boy Next Door look. And now, he look like somebody’s Grandpa. Time can be a son of a bitch!!!
