Mark Jones - Mercator Origins: A Sat Nav and Telemetry Console for Scuba Diving 

I’m Mark Jones aka The Scuba Hacker! I started a little project in January of this year as an antidote to many disappointments looking for work. It was a way to reconnect with where my lifetime interest in technology started, right at the beginning - with the simplicity and elegance of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum which my Dad brought home in 1983.
I’ve been a senior engineering manager for a long time and had long lamented how my tech skills had (apparently) withered on the vine. Turns out, no such withering has happened! I’m excited to share my renewed passion which has reignited thanks to my experience with Physical Computing, IoT, Arduino and ESP32 development.
The talk is all about my journey of discovery, building this underwater sat nav / Google Maps / Telematics distributed computing system for scuba diving. It can also be used with a slight modification for snorkelling, kayaking and in fact any other marine or land based activity.
