Mark Kermode reviews Dallas Buyers Club 

I love this film so much, it shows the power films and books and stories/literature have to change lives and change the world for the better. I think Matthew and Jared’s performances in this film are two of the top 5 best performances I have ever seen in my life and I am a film nerd.

I feel Dallas Buyers Club is the most IMPORTANT film of the nominated films. Showcasing how the FDA pushes their own agenda by keeping down drugs that actually help people. Something that still happens in this day and age.

The more I watch this movie,the more I like it.Very good movie with exceptional performances.

He literally just explained the whole plot.

best film and performances iv seen in a long long time

I saw this movie not knowing a thing about the story, characters anything and it was only because of the performances being praised in media that I decided to watch it and what a good film but the two main actors are excellent its are hard subject to watch but worth it.

Best Picture/ Actor/ Supporting Actor/ Makeup yes.

One of the few films that Mark was actually positive about a Jared Leto preformance

I think McConaughey and Leto will win. I loved Ejiofor and Abdi but I do think the performances in Dallas Buyers Club were exceptional and they should be awarded so. I reckon 12 Years will win Best Film anyway though (and Cuaron for Best Director most likely). Would like to see one or two awards for Her/Jonze and Nebraska/Payne if possible...and whatever Llewyn Davis/the Coens have left nomination-wise! (cinematography?)

Didn't anyone see the Orange Lamborghini poster behind Matthew Mcconaughey.

Loved the film and i also thought all of the awards McConaughey and Leto received were well deserved.

This film was beyond incredible

This is a performance film. I honestly did not care for the plot or direction but the performances kept me interested.

I was so impressed with Jared Leto's performance.

McConaughey and Leto are terrific, and they're easily the best part about the whole movie. That kind of says a bit about how most of the script isn't as good, though. That's not to say that it isn't good, because it is, but without the performances, it wouldn't have been as good. There's some nice directing and cool sound design, nonetheless, but it does go on for about ten minutes too many. There really isn't much else to say about it. 8.3/10, great, one thumb up, above average, etc.

I love it.

I was surprisingly underwhelmed by this. It's not bad, but it's not great; maybe I was expecting a different kind of film but I found it very conventional and quite televisual for a chunk of it. I found the Ron Woodroof character unlikable all the way through; he's a bully and is constantly mean to Rayon. Also I think Jennifer Garner's character was in fact under-written; and because I didn't like Ron I couldn't understand why she did. I feel there was more energy put into writing/performing the Ron Woodroof character whose the only person that feels like a real person in the story. It's also a very ideologically conservative film [not necessarily a criticism but I was somewhat surprised by that] Like other Oscar nominations this year [particularly American Hustle which I kind of enjoyed more] DBC is a film that relies much more on performances rather than solid storytelling and plot. To that end it's not surprising that it's got acting nominations, but it's far from being best picture..... :)

I found this film very disappointing. Apart from Leno and McConaughey's performances, and the good looking cinematography and camerawork, I felt the film was very insubstantial. The script feels like that of a TV movie with predictable plotting, unimaginitive cliched dialogue, and one-dimensional supporting characters. Its not a terrible movie by any means, but if you take away the production values and stars you are left with a perfunctory, made for TV "issue" movie which really doesn't bring anything new to the table.

I am going to see this movie this weekend. I think Jared Leto will win the Oscar.

Even with all that time, Mark still sounded rushed and slurry.

McConaughey was great but the movie's overrated. Too sentimental. That said the emotional turning pt of the movie, where he "cruises" Leto's character in order to win him back and work with him, was my 2nd fav scene of the yr

I think Dallas Buyers Club is was one of the most overrated films of the year. McConaughey was terrific, but the film itself had too much narrative flaws. The praise that Leto has received is also difficult to understand; he showed Oscar-worthy acting in just two scenes, and his character was very poorly written. And Jennifer Garner was just annoying. I hope the film won't win any Oscars (especially not for Best Original Screenplay), but McConaughey's win looks pretty certain.
