A few years after this, that chalkboard appeared in a sketch on Going Live (or may have been Saturday Superstore), and you could still clearly see the chord and 'Exhibit A' on it. Very sad that I remember. 😁
I remember taping this on VHS and watched it sooooo many times! How on earth did they manage to assemble all of those legends in one place?! Great guitarists, good sports for doing it, fantastic show all round!
The Monty Python team where friendly with Led Zep and The Beatles, so too the New Wave comedians knew all the pop and rock celebs on the London scene at the time, Live Aid helped fuse that together too I think!
@@ScilentDeath I'll be honest, I think it might have been before Comic Relief! But I just remember it being on one of their ordinary shows that I taped.
My heart very nearly stopped when I read "RIP Mark" - even after reading through to the end, I had to take a moment to re-read the entire comment and calm down. (Long live Mark! And David too!)
If you had told a younger me that I would see my favorite musician (Lemmy Kilmister) jamming with David Gilmour, Mark Knopfler, Gary Moore and especially Mark King, I would have never believed you. The devil has officially ice skated to work.
I'm french and when I saw that for the first time without the subtitles I didn't understand anything! Now all is clear and it's funny. @ jim ewok : Phil Collins sneaked everywhere in the 80s, until saturation!
There are so many little things that go unnoticed when you first watch this..like the clerk of the court typing out the intro to ace of spades.... Lemmy " I'm a professional".. always gets me
This is brilliant. As an admirer of Ralph, at first I did not know whether to be annoyed or pleased by this send up. I quickly came to the conclusion that this was more of a send up of the belief that music in itself, especially classical music, is often very formulaic in its structure and that the musicians in the sketch rely on instinct, improvisation and natural ability, more than playing by formula. And this, of course, is where the sketch effectively pays homage to Ralph, who is himself a master of instinct, improvisation and natural ability.....and of course, who, as an itinerant busking musician, recognised that money was to be made by writing a book "simplifying" things for the less talented, by providing a structured formulaic plan for such lesser mortals. I would also question the significant absence of Angus, who, with his schoolboy approach to all things music, would have made him a reliable witness.
How on earth they got all though's famous guitarist's is unbelievable, this is one brilliant sketch. Raw Sex were so funny I love the way he had his flies open all way through.
Best sketch ever! Ik laughed myself tears! Just as the first time i saw it! Hilarious! Mr Knopfeler! Lenny: i'm a professionall! Oh, my god! Fantastic!
Copied from WikiPedia: "Mark Knopfler also took part in a comedy skit (featured on the French and Saunders Show) titled The Easy Guitar Book Sketch with comedian Rowland Rivron and fellow British musicians David Gilmour, Lemmy from Motörhead, Mark King from Level 42, and Gary Moore. Phil Taylor explained in an interview that Knopfler used Gilmour's guitar rig and managed to sound like himself when performing in the skit."
Um whatever "rig" he is using, he isn't actually playing initially. Do you see how he stops miming and the music continues? He does play after that, but only the "clueless" part.
@@jobeyyyy he definitely doesn’t stop playing. Knopfler’s right hand technique involves him using his thumb, but also using fingers one and two. With his fingers, he both picks up and also strikes down, which to some, might seem like he’s stopped playing because they’re only looking at his thumb. This is definitely live though, he even slightly fluffs the second last chord.
I started playing the guitar 34yrs ago I gave up playing the guitar 31yrs and 10 months ago. If only i had of seen this i would have known about the dots.
I wish Lemmy, Mark King, Les Claypool, John Entwistle and Buckethead all came together to do an album playing bass together, King and Claypool with Buckethead would even be great to see the slapping contest live
do you remember the American "That metal show", with Eddie Trunk? Imagine they did a Bass show, one week, with Steve Harris, Lemmy , Geddy Lee, John Entwhistle, Bob Daisley, etc. I reckon Eddie would have filled his pants.

*I OBJECT* my lady! They forgot the small circles above the A-string and high E-string and a small x above the low E-string telling you to play the A and high E-strings open, without placing any fingers on the fretboard, as well as the low E-string should not be played at all! I contend this is exhibit is both inaccurate as well as misleading to the Judge (and/or Jury) who may not know exactly how this diagram informs a Guitar player what to play!
the more observant (or nerd?) will have noticed that Mark Knopler plays David Gilmour's Red Stratocaster in the video. Gilmour instead plays a custom color Clapton Stratocaster. both guitars were sold in 2019 at Christie's auction...
Watch the court reporter. When Knopfler comes on, it looks like she is putting salt on her snack or something. When Lemmy comes on, she's pounding her keyboard along with Lemmy.
@@keshoasubuhi I had to look up Tippex, we don't have it in the U.S. What we have is Liquid Paper, which was invented by Bette Nesmith Graham, mother of Monkee Michael Nesmith. I am not making this up!
