GARY MOORE (4 April 1952 - 6 February 2011)
In remembrance to one of my all time guitar heroes, who sadly passed away a year ago today. This remains one of my favourite performances by him and I can still remember buying the original version, written and recorded by Roy Buchanan, when I was still a 15 year old boy and starting out learning to play the guitar.
This performance was recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1990 - a venue he revisited a number of times through the years.
Gary, you are sadly missed.

With respect to Mr Buchanan, Mr Bonamassa, Mr Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mr Clapton, Mr Satriani, Mr Van Halen, Mr Santana... and all those I have no time to list (you get my point) this is the greatest example of electric guitar mastery ever caught on tape. Whether it’s single note, rhythm, string bending, hammering, arpeggio, tone, scale, pentatonics, proper diatonics, finger picking, or power chords.. this is the epitome of mastery of the guitar. I doubt you can find a guitar player that would disagree. It disappeared for about a year or more on RU-vid and I’m glad it’s back. It should be shared with anyone you can get to listen. The world should remember Gary Moore.

Although Gary Moore was well recognized, I strongly believe that he was underrated. He had the technique, he had the inspiration, he had song writing skills, he had a good the voice, and lots of feeling. He could play rock, blues, heavy metal, jazz, and anything else. I've heard some great guitarists play some great solos, but I've never heard anyone but Gary display this level of sustained mastery, ever! These ten minutes of pure emotion and technical brilliance show that Mr. Moore was a guitar virtuoso almost without equal. Listening to this was akin to listening to a great violin virtuoso playing Tchaikovskys violin concerto, another technically demanding piece wrought with emotion. RIP Gary Moore.

Gary Moore was the guitarist that was about the music and the smoothness of a track he made, it explains his ‘bending into notes technique’ which many players never used they would just pick the note with a little vibrato but Gary bent into the note which created a more ‘smooth’ sound, and the mans bluesy and touching guitar licks were like none other, this man was a living Legend. Rest In Peace Master.

One of the true great guitarists. Gary had more energy in a single note than 99% of players these days. He didn't even care about occasional extraneous notes or little details. He just played like a monster! Always thought hes one of the best for making faces while diggin in too, all natural. RIP

This song is everything, it takes you for one helluva a ride and just when you think he can't take you any higher he does and it feels as though your soul is being pulled right out of your chest. This song will be my last gift to all who attend my life party, there will be comfortable chairs that you can lean back on and a killer sound system, all they'll have to do is lean back, close their eyes and enjoy the ride. Thank you Gary Moore for sharing your gift with us, through your music you will forever live on.

@andythomas706
@andythomas706 9 лет назад
MissDistarr60 I'm not knocking Gary Moore. I'm just pointing out that buying such a 'unique' instrument and then masking its 'uniqueness' with a pedal board full of FX is ridiculous! To hear what this guitar is really capable of you need to hear Green play it. I recommend you check out 'Mayall/Green Live In London '67' (elsewhere on here) and you can hear what it sounds like in Green's hands. Incidentally, Green is in wicked form. There are 5 seperate London Gigs. These recordings have only recently been discovered and a compilation CD has just been released. Hopefully all 5CDs will eventually be available because these recordings reveal for the first time just how amazing 'Clapton's Replacement' really was. In my book, he was the guvnor!
@MissDistarr60
@MissDistarr60 9 лет назад
Andy Thomas I know you weren't knocking him. I will take a listen to Mayall (who I saw live a very long time ago by the way:) and Green Live in London '67. I saw Clapton Live way back in the day as well. He is good, but there are other guitarist's whose style I much prefer to his. This is just my preference, but I don't care for a guitarist whose fingers are always flying and making a loud sound (and I'm not referring to Clapton). I want to hear that there is a direction that he/she is going and there is a smooth, clean, flow and I can hear a melody being played. I don't know a great deal about guitars or any other instruments for that matter. I just know what is pleasing to my ear and what makes we want to hear more of it. I love Mark Knopfler. He has a completely different style than most, but to me, it sounds as though the music comes from his soul and flows through his fingertips and it he makes it look absolutely effortless. It's as though the guitar is an extension of the man himself. And he makes a beautiful sound. And that's part of my taste in a guitarist. I admire and respect the great players. To entertain and move people with your music is an amazing thing. There are more than a few gentlemen who do just that. And that takes a great deal of talent and discipline. Sorry for the lengthy reply. I have no self edit button.
