I don't think Mark gets the credit he deserves. Yes, he is recognised as a fantastic guitarist and songwriter. To my mind, he is THE best simply because of the variety of his playing, the different guitars he uses, the songs he writes. People always go on about Hendrix, Page, Clapton and others. All brilliant, but Mark Knopfler beats them all.
I love his guitar playing, but the point that is made similarly elsewhere, is that he keeps it simple, beautifully delivered and in perfect keeping with the song and his wonderful story telling lyrics. This combined with the wide range of topics and styles is what sets him apart. Best guitarist, there are many nominations for that, but widely read, modest and most complete performer, now that is much better summary of this amazing man.
The only reference MK has is probably when he plays with musicians who need to work on their Chops when he calls out Keys.. Although of course he often surrounds himself with top shelf guys..

I have loved Mark since the early Dire Straits. Such a nice guy. Met him after a Sailing to Philadelphia show in 2002. It was drizzling. He signed my concert booklet and told me to be careful not to "smuudge" (his accent) his signature in black marker. He truly cared that it not get ruined for me by the light rain. I'll love him forever.
The main reason Mark is so good, despite all the fame, is he hasn't forgotten his roots. These little vignettes are so great in sharing that with his equally gray-haired fans. Thanks for all the joy you have brought us Mark.
sailing to philadelphia is one of the best solo albums of mark knopfler, there are 4 songs that are outstanding for me, what it is, speedway at nazareth, silver town blues and prairie wedding
I really like this album, every song is a classic. Beautifully played, well written and sung. The songs are like story books. Mark paints a multilayered painting with this album. His career is constant high quality.
17:01 - I love his observation of the experience of creating songs, “They have to be dealt with on their own terms, like people.” I’ve always felt, in creating any artwork, you have the germ of an idea and you get a little bit of it down. From then on, the development of the piece is much like a conversation.

Very impressive and very interesting.......Mark is a genius in terms of his songwriting, guitar playing and music production....fascinating that so many of his songs are based on memories from his life.........shows great attention to detail and has the advantage of a good memory....the variety he presents in his playing and songwriting is brilliant........and for such a successful musician he still remains humble and close to his roots......so many things to be grateful for
His songs will never get old.. still soo fresh and warm. Goosebumps. I soo wanna meet him someday and touch his hands and fingers that made him a legend and unique. Huge Respect from India.
I'm amazed by the way Mark Knopfler thinks about his music as something fluid, how he can just sit down and imagine different ways of playing his own music.
I just love listening to you talk about your music...you are so passionate about it...you have a talent that inspires all of us in the art world, not just singers and song writers which I am neither...I draw and I paint better than some and not as good as others...and your music and your passion about it inspires me in creating my own works...you have an amazing singing voice and watching you play the guitar is fascinating to me. I love music most forms of it (I really don't care for rap but even some of that I like) and I really love listening to most of your music both from your Dire Straits years and your more recent works and I cant draw with out it..thank you Mark you are the best in my book... and that is the only book that matters to me

Really good. I was 12 when I bought my first cassette. It was called Making Movies. When I was 16 I went to see my first concert. It was DS in Auckland NZ in 1986. One of kind band to this day.

I bought James Taylor album/CD (3 songs) extra. CD ..with Sailing to Philadelphia /w Mark and another with Yo Yo Sailing to Philadelphia quality was recorded to the MAX ...still one of my favorites.

Man I can relate to Mark. When I was little I drew 6 strings and a fretboard on a long piece of wood and imagined how it would sound. Love you Mark, you are one under rated artist. So sad, when we lose you all of a sudden headlines, "WE HAVE LOST ONE OF THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYERS"
