The Martin HD-40MK (Mark Knopfler Signature Edition) is my "Holy Grail" acoustic guitar - the ideal combo of quality, tone, playability and price. This gorgeous dreadnought is "giving" me new musical inspiration and songs, including this 2-munite guitar improvisation that I aptly titled "Dire States." Please tell me what you think!
Background: In 2001, C.F. Martin & Co started creating "Holy Grail" guitars for the world's greatest artists. These Signature Editions have been crafted to the specifications of Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, Sting, Crosby, Still & Nash, Steve Miller, and many more.

Hi Robert, congratulations on your playing, beautiful sound, and congratulations on your Martin HD40MK, I had that guitar years ago and used it for my concerts, then I sold it, now I've been looking for it for a few years but they are not found so easily. Thank YOU, Francesco. I'm sorry to hear you sold your HD-40MK. You're correct that they're hard to find, with only 251 in ever made... From 2002-2015, whenever I saw one made available, it usually sold for between $3500 and $5000 USD. More recently, they're being listed for $9000 USD and up. I don't know what changed to make them so much more valuable, but it probably doesn't help to have me calling this model my "holy grail"!! 😂

Hi Robert, I think you used Double Drop D tuning on this Martin, or it’s Drop D tuning?

Just simple Drop D. But the Dsus2 chords make it sound like Double Drop D for sure.

@RobertCassard === That Mark Knopfler was a great fingerpicker guitarist. It is too bad that more people are not interested in him. They all prefer Taylor Swift and those boy bands. It is a shame, but I must say, Taylor Swift is very talented. I am thinking about becoming a Swifty myself.

@@kennethbransford820 You may be right that Mark Knopfler isn't seen as a "current" artist, but the dude has sold over 100 million records. Lots of people either know him and/or his music. As for Taylor Swift, she's a powerhouse. I've never seen any. solo artist able to garner, sustain and grow more fans and release more culturally relevant songs and lyrics in a 20-year time period. Prolific is an understatement. There's a LOT to like about her music and lyrics. If any older folk-rock snob tells me otherwise, I always send 'em to Ryan Adams' version of Taylor's entire 1989 LP. Hearing an older artist do those songs strips 'em right back to the core.
