I was there. Crossing paths with so many of the same characters living a parallel life. Layne included. Getting kick packs from a Dr. on Broadway, getting clean at Kings County detox multiple times just so I could lower my habit... Burning my connect who I ran for, a killer named spanky forcing me to escape to LA… I bought a 1972 Yamaha acoustic guitar from Capital Pawn that played like nothing before or since and then lost it to a pawn shop in dtla. That one still hurts….So grateful to have made it though 🙏🏽

@Blackkitty32 Assuming you're in Ireland, I have no knowledge of what recovery services are available. The first thing to do is make the firm decision that you want to live and to do whatever it takes to get off the gear. If there are methadone clinics, that would be a step to consider. I'm not a big fan of that stuff, but with fentanyl being in the picture, it would be a better choice. Get into counseling. Be ready to walk away from everyone in your life who is in the shit or a negative influence. Eat healthy food. Be patient and compassionate with yourself. None of it is quick or easy. One doesn't get a habit overnight, and the changes take time as well. You can do it.
@DonBurtonsays...
@DonBurtonsays... 6 месяцев назад
@@Blackkitty32 instead of methadone, I would consider trying Suboxone. I'm not sure if it's the same brand name in Ireland, but they probably have it where you live. It could possibly save your life. I can promise you that the struggle will only get worse. There is no such thing as "no hope." Anyone can get better. It will be the hardest thing you've ever done, but you WILL feel better eventually. Your life is worth saving. I hope you seek help soon, if you haven't already. Cannabis is also a lifesaver. It will at least help you eat and sleep during your first few weeks of abstinence from harder drugs. I sincerely hope you make it.

I was shocked and saddened at some of these old 80's and 90's bands I remembered and what became of some of the members who fell off the rails into heroin hell. a few of my friends from the 90's fell into that dreadful scene too. It really soured my enthusiasm for the whole Seattle alt-rock, grunge scene.

I know Marks suffering I had a really bad year 1998 started in 1995 had to do my time in 2003, but my addiction heroin and Coke never got that bad. For the most part I had a car half the time a place of my own mostly. The worst part that makes me have terrible using dreams I want to go back but I don't. Layne Staley and Mark keep me clean!

Their record label gave their biggest hit to the singles soundtrack for free. Cost the band a shit ton of money of sales from sweet oblivion.

I was a big fan of sweet oblivion. Didn’t know much else of the screaming trees stuff. Had no idea Lannegan was such an addict. What strikes me with all of these excerpts from his book is how many chances he kept getting, and ignoring, and the fact that he was actually a pretty selfish arsehole. Yet people still kept doing him favours and helping him.

Uh yeah, that's called being an addict...getting a ton of chances and ignoring them while being a selfish jerk

I never.succumbed to full blown addiction but being homeless n alone after moving to portland i became curious of what the Fuss was about w meth. Id usually never pay.n this became a problem of minimizing the later fact that id been going on 3 day.binges and that 2 yrs had dematerialized from my life since i first told myself" ill just bail on the dope after i get my rocksoff in the city blah" I remember a native streetkid id met when.i.first arrived selling me my first 20 sac He said :" dude you seem like an interesting person but i Every time i reached a point.of realizing i was minimizing my dopw use id always look at it like this: Rolling cigarette butts off the ground is when you kno Portland or Seattle has you in its Grip Much love to.those struggling out here you can discover a better way of life if you want to ❤

Heavy stuff and sounds like a vibe straight from late 40s film noir flicks. The cop did him a huge solid BTW. He was in Horrendous shape and the Grim Reaper was shadowing him.
