Aaah, I remember gathering round the wireless, with meself & me leg, listening to the lardy boy & Radcliffe. Kermode was expecting intelligent responses to his witticisms & getting nowt in return. Kermode's struggles lost out to the overpowering nonsense so they left them to it & that's when a legend was born.
He didn’t quit. This was just all sketched for effect. He did loads and loads of shows, as did Will Self. It was more than a show. It was an institution. I do think they were in their element at this time of night, but the money was too good to turn down for daytime. Their breakfast show was a misadventure, but it led them to the afternoon show, where they used to sneak in records that weren’t on the playlist for that time of day. It changed what people heard and the tone of Radio One. But Peel will always be the boss.
It's all Mallory's fault. Lancelot ruins the story, making Arthur into a minor character. Frankly, he and half the round table knights need writing out of the thing to retrieve it. They're just fluff.
