Hi All! In todays session video we are working on the Gelli Plate doing lots of mark making! We explore posca pens, sumi ink and creating gelli prints with out the use of a brayer.

I have a drawer full of paper towels I’ve used for blotting my brushes when doing my Chinese Brush Paintings. Many look like abstract works of art in themselves. I’ve also been Asian Scripting before I ever knew it had a name as my Chinese Calligraphy skills waned when I was caregiving my parents for a decade. It’s nice to see that what I’ve been doing is validated by someone with your incredible talents. I love your videos and started pulling prints and painting sometimes random bone, leaf, vein and or feather traditional strokes on freer prints and sometimes a full lotus or bamboo, or flower with the simplicity of CBP. It’s so much fun. I also painted landscapes on the plate with black ink and pressed layered play pages onto them.

My learning from this video was that gelli prints aren’t necessarily done when you think they are. I have some that are just sitting in my files because there isn’t enough depth or interest to them. Now I know what I need to do to make them useable. Thanks so much.

Love your work. Working artist here. But I have learned a lot about geli printing from You tube and your channel.. Just so you know an art teacher I had taught his classes to use bottle bottoms" in the early 60's. Maybe he got it from cup rings left on paper. Innovation is everywhere I guess.

I love how you can turn the simplest of items like paper towels using INK BLOTS into something gorgeous to use in art work. I’ve used paper towels as they are a lot like napkins but you elevated them to a new level for me.

Just pressing down and holding Poscas a couple of times for five seconds or so works as well as repeated tapping and helps keep the tip from fraying.

Ink blots on paper towels, genius! I always fret over left over sumi ink, now I know what to do! And thank you for showing how to build up subtle layers. My layering becomes so wild and busy because each layer is so strong. That instruction alone is worth its weight in Gold(Mine). Haha

Great session Robyn, I love the papers I made last week. Ready for the next layer. I haven't used Posca pens on the gel plate yet, very excited for that. So many great techniques to try. Love those ink blots!
